  • Patent number: 5810382
Abstract: In a grip bar for a collapsible baby carriage, first and second portions 4 and 5 are coupled with each other by a rigid link member 28 within a joint 6, so that the first and second portions 4 and 5 symmetrically operate with respect to the joint 6. Thus, angles formed by the respective first and second portions 4 and 5 relative to the joint 6 can be kept identical to each other, whereby locking members 23 and 24 for both of the first and second portions 4 and 5 can be reliably and concurrently engaged in open state locking concave portions 19 and 20 or closed state locking concave portions 21 and 22. In this manner, it is possible to reliably and easily attain a locking state of both of the first and second portions 4 and 5 in either a linear open state or a folded state.

Abstract: A removable latching assembly for use with a child's stroller. The stroller has a latch support post with a latch lug and a bearing surface, and a pivot support post with a bearing surface. The latching assembly includes a latching portion having an engagement surface and a manually operable latch lever with a pawl engagable with the latch lug, and a pivot portion with a bearing surface slidably engagable with the bearing surface of the pivot support post. To install, the pivot portion is maneuvered onto the pivot post bearing surface, the assembly is rotated by substantially ninety degrees about the bearing surface of the pivot support post until the latching portion engagement surface encounters the bearing surface of the latch support post. The latch lever is manipulated to engage the latching pawl with the latch lug.

  • Patent number: 5692766
Abstract: A vehicle for transporting a child (stroller, carriage or buggy) with a safety side handle pivotally connected to the vehicle frame. The pivot point for the side handle is located forward of the rear of the vehicle by a distance equal to at least about one-quarter of the front-to-back dimension of the vehicle. Better results are obtained if the distance mentioned is about one-third of the front-to-back dimension of the vehicle, and a distance of about one-half that dimension is preferred. The handle pivots from an inoperative position alongside the vehicle to a laterally extending, operative position, where it can be pushed to move the vehicle forward. The preferred form includes a collapsible tray table attached to the rear of the vehicle. The side handle may be attached indirectly to the vehicle frame through a pivotable attachment to the outer end of the side handle support frame that is in turn directly and pivotally attached to the vehicle frame.

The rear pair of wheels fixed in their direction of travel and the front pair of wheels being pivotable through 360 degrees. In the walker configuration the generally rectangular form is converted into a generally triangular or trapezium support form with the two rear wheels remaining in their original spaced apart position with the front two wheels moved closer together in a relatively reduced spaced apart relationship acting effectively as slightly spaced apart dual wheels. The seat platform of the wheelchair is rigid and folds up against the front of the back of the device in its walker or transport/storage configuration.

  • Patent number: 5551105
Abstract: An apparatus combining an overbed table, IV stand, walker, and optionally a wheeled chair is described. The IV stand portion of the apparatus can be raised for administering intravenous liquids or lowered for concealment. The table portion can be detachable so that the stand can be attached to a patient's bed. The apparatus contains a wide wheelbase for stability as a walker, yet furnishes easy maneuverability. The apparatus also contains mechanisms for attaching oxygen bottles, catheterization equipment, infusion pumps, and the like. An embodiment containing a wheeled chair functionality combines the table and wheeled chair functionalities so that one or the other can be selected for use. This multifunctional apparatus reduces the amount of occupied floor space in a patient's room and reduces the need for storage space for IV stands, walkers, wheeled chairs and the like.

  • Patent number: 5547205
Abstract: A wheeled luggage cart comprising a folding seat and a handle that, through a simple rotation by the user, releases said seat and rotates it down from a folded up compact stowed position to a horizontal level position for seating the traveler. The seat is attached to the cart by means of a hinge assembly that engages the vertical posts of the cart and permits rotation of the seat to the two positions; in the deployed seating position, dual legs extend downward from the center of the seat to the floor to support the user's weight. To position these legs correctly, a connection guide link, attached to the luggage cart, guides the legs to their correct load bearing position. In addition to support this load, there is a diagonal compression link attached to the seat, and attached to the base of the luggage cart, to provide a truss structure to share the imposed weight. A sliding bracket on the cart allows the diagonal link to be compactly stowed with the seat flatly against the back of the cart.
