Mounted In Vehicle And Positioned Laterally Of Occupant Patents (Class 280/730.2)
  • Patent number: 9308882
Abstract: A vehicle has a front seat in which an airbag is deployed so as to inflate in an interior of a seat back in response to a collision, and a rear seat disposed behind the front seat. The vehicle includes: a rear occupancy detector that detects the presence of a seat occupant in the rear seat; and a controller that controls deployment/inflation of the airbag. The airbag in the seat back elastically supports an upper body of a seat occupant of the front seat, and elastically receives an impact force exerted on a back surface of the seat back. The controller cancels deployment/inflation of the airbag when a seat occupant is not present in the rear seat.

Abstract: An airbag assembly may include an airbag with a first fabric panel, a second fabric panel attached to the first fabric panel, and a third fabric panel attached to the second fabric panel. The first and second fabric panels may define a first inflatable cushion and the second and third fabric panels may define a C-shaped second inflatable cushion. Upon deployment, the first inflatable cushion may have a first pressure and the second inflatable cushion may have a second pressure greater than the first pressure. Further, the first inflatable cushion may be positioned directly outboard of the thoracic region and the second inflatable cushion may be positioned directly outboard of the acromial region and the coxal region, but not the thoracic region, to provide gentler cushioning for the thoracic region.

  • Patent number: 9102373
Abstract: A hinge pillar assembly includes a hinge pillar panel that is cast from a die casting process, and that defines an interior surface. An acoustic foam layer is disposed adjacent the interior surface of the hinge pillar panel. An inner retainer panel is attached to the hinge pillar panel. The inner retainer panel secures the acoustic foam layer between the inner retainer panel and the hinge pillar panel. The hinge pillar assembly is cast to define a cored boss that is used to retain the hinge pillar panel within an upper ejector half of a die set during the casting process. A fastener is disposed in the threaded engagement with the cored boss to attach the inner retainer panel to the hinge pillar panel. A vehicle component may be attached to the inner retainer panel.

  • Patent number: 9096192
Abstract: The present invention provides an airbag that is capable of stabilizing a flow of a gas introduced into a lower air chamber to thereby stabilize an expansion behavior, the air bag being capable of stably constraining an occupant. Along a bulkhead configured to partition an airbag main body portion into an upper air chamber and the lower air chamber, a patch is mounted into the lower air chamber so that a rear end part is opposed to a distributing portion. The patch is expanded by means of a gas introduced into the lower air chamber in an expanded state of an inflating portion of the airbag main body portion to thereby form a cover portion along an interior face of the lower air chamber and a redundant portion configured to slacken with respect to the interior face of the lower air chamber.
