Protectors Patents (Class 281/20)
  • Patent number: 4660857
Abstract: Apparatus and method for packaging, guarding and sealing a portion of a publication. The pages of the publication contained in the portion thus packaged, guarded and sealed are prevented from being viewed until and unless a seal is broken, at which time these pages and/or content can then be freely viewed. The cover, pages and content of the other portions of the publication which are not so protected, packaged, guarded and sealed are permitted to be viewed as though the protecting apparatus guarding the sealed off portion of the publication were not present. The apparatus and the method can be used with publications of varied sizes and for guarding portions of the publication which may contain various amounts of pages, as required and as deemed appropriate at the time the publication whole content is assembled for binding.

  • Patent number: 4524991
Abstract: The snap on device having a U-shaped support with a spacer bar secured down the channel of the U-shaped support and a tension strip secured to the spacer bar and substantially filling the channel creates a device capable of being snapped onto a hard cover ring binder and equalizing the thickness of the binder from its spine to its opening side.

  • Patent number: 4377430
Abstract: A book cover making process feeds transparent polymer sheet material from a roll of material across a plurality of roller cutting blades for making cuts a portion of the way through the material. The polymer sheet material being fed is coated with adhesive in two space coats on either side of the cut lines on the opposite side of the sheet from the cut lines. The coated adhesive is covered with backing material and the polymer sheet material is then cut into predetermined sizes to form book covers. The coating and backing may be done in one operation and rewound onto a roll and fed from the rewound roll for cutting to size and then have a plurality of lines cut into the individual polymer sheets.

  • Patent number: 4152013
Abstract: An improved rainshed binder is disclosed for protecting a book from environmental weather conditions. The binder has first and second covers each of which have rainshed protecting walls connected to inside surface side edges of the covers. An integral binder backbone connects the first and second covers. The backbone has a pair of linear polyethylene hinges positioned inwardly of outer rigid, non-flexible corners of the backbone. The backbone connects in integral manner with the first and second covers at the rigid corners. An attachment plate secures the book to be protected to the backbone between the flexible hinges. The rigid corners of the backbone are free to flex relative to the book attachment plate by the provision of the hinges. The binder is designed to hang downwardly in closed fashion when the book is not in use.

  • Patent number: 4083582
Abstract: This invention relates to a device for protecting the edges of a book. An elongated, flexible material has a zipper located along the center of the elongated axis. The zipper, which may be of the plastic pressure lock type, connects two elongated halves forming the flexible material. On the outer edges of the flexible material is an adhesive bonding surface protected by an adhesive covering strip. In use, the adhesive covering strip is removed. The flexible material is then attached to the outer edges of the book by the adhesive bonding surface. To open the book, the zipper is unzipped, thereby allowing the book to be opened. To provide smooth corners on the book, notches are cut in the flexible material.
