  • Patent number: 5662976
Abstract: An assembly for creating laminated cards for printing by a laser printer has a backing sheet. The backing sheet has a first side with a release coating, and a second side with a printable surface. The assembly also has a card which has been cut from the backing sheet. A lamination sheet adhesively adheres to the first side of the backing sheet and to the cut card. A lamination strip which has been cut from the lamination sheet has a first portion which adheres to and covers one surface of the card. The lamination strip also has an integral second portion which adheres to the backing sheet adjacent to the cut card. The lamination strip maintains the cut card in the same position relative to the backing sheet that the card had prior to being cut. The assembly has a substantially constant thickness and substantially flat upper and lower surfaces so that the assembly can pass through a complex paper path without jamming. A method for creating laminated cards from such an assembly has several steps.

Abstract: A window sticker for pricing and fuel economy information about a motor vehicle can be readily positioned and repositioned on a motor vehicle window, and finally removed from the window without leaving an adhesive residue, and in integral form so that it serves as a customer receipt. A continuous web of bond paper with an adhesive-coated backing is moved in a first direction to a press where fixed indicia, including fuel economy and price related word indicia, is applied to a first face of the front web sheet. A record sheet web is applied to the dual ply-web of bond paper and backing. The front web sheet has a release coating on a second face that releasably adheres to the backing sheet. The front web sheet also includes a removable boarder surrounding the window sticker. Removal of this border exposes a corresponding border section of the adhesive coated backing which secures the window sticker to a vehicle window.

Abstract: Disclosed is a protective patch for smoothly covering labels in existing garments. The patch includes a flexible member formed of cotton flannel, and an adhesive material on the flexible member. The adhesive material forms a first adhesive that extends within a ring-shaped region proximate an edge margin of the flexible member, the first adhesive being releasable from the garment for exposing the label. A marginal portion of the flexible member is folded against a facing portion of the flexible member for forming a double thickness of the flexible member with the edge margin being spaced inwardly from an outer perimeter of the patch. A second adhesive secures the marginal portion to the facing portion, the marginal portion having a corner width at locations of minimum radius of the outer perimeter, the corner width being less than half of the minimum radius for limiting projections of the perimeter margin away from the facing flexible material.

Abstract: A double thickness label assembly has a label layer having a pressure sensitive adhesive mounted on a backing layer. The backing layer has a release coating for removal of the labels. The label assembly is divided into two or more sections by perforations that extend through both layers of the assembly. Each individual section is designed to have increased flexibility at its leading edge by means of die cut and/or perforated lines so that the section can feed through a laser printer without getting jammed. The user may choose to either print the sheet in its entirety, or may print one or more sections and save the remainder of the sheet for later use. A convenient method of preparing small sets of labels uses a divisible sheet of labels that is divided into sections by perforations. A user first divides the sheet into the sections. Each section includes a number of die cut labels.
