Abstract: A method of surface coating a metallic object, including removing substantially all of the existing silver sulfide tarnish if present, ultrasonically cleaning the object with immersion in a solvent, uniformly dispersing selected nanoparticles over the surface of the object by sonicating the object in an ultrasonic bath containing the selected nanoparticles. The invention further includes quickly rinsing the object with solvent upon removal from the ultrasonic bath to inhibit formation of large agglomerates, drying the object with a flow of gas, optically inspecting the object for the presence of agglomeration and applying a barrier layer conformal coating and a protective layer conformal coating.

Abstract: According to one embodiment of the invention, a method of activating a plurality of disparate stored value accounts utilizes a set of multiple presentation instruments redeemable at different merchants. Each presentation instrument includes a unique presentation instrument identifier used to associate value with the presentation instrument. Also, the set includes a set identifier, which may be included on a package that secures the presentation instruments together. In one embodiment, the set identifier is received over an electronic network, a list of the presentation instruments in the set is accessed from a computer database, and each of the presentation instruments is activated.

Abstract: A package is configured to hold an information carrying card. The package includes a first panel connected to a second panel via a first fold line. The first panel includes a first opening. A third panel is connected to the second panel via a second fold line, the third panel includes a second opening. In a state where the first panel has been folded to overlap the second panel via the first fold line and the second panel has been folded to overlap the third panel via the second fold line, the first opening at least partially overlaps the second opening. The package may include a card on which data is stored. The data is exposed through the first and second opening to an environment outside the package.

Abstract: A package is configured to hold an information carrying card. The package includes a first panel connected to a second panel via a first fold line. The first panel includes a first opening. A third panel is connected to the second panel via a second fold line, the third panel includes a second opening. Abstract: A method, processing system, and/or computer program product for generating a graphic for application to a surface to produce a plaque. In one aspect, the method includes, in a processing system: receiving, from a user, first location data indicative of a first location; receiving, from the user, second location data indicative of a plurality of second locations; determining for each second location, a displacement pair, each displacement pair being indicative of: a distance between the first location and the respective second location; and a direction of the respective second location relative to the first location; and generating, using each displacement pair, graphical data indicative of a graphic for application to a surface, wherein the graphical data is indicative of the distance and direction of each second location relative to the first location.

Abstract: An inside leaflet of a book is provided which is bond-bound with pages of the book to provide an advertisement. The inside leaflet includes an advertisement printed part and a binding part. Catchphrases or illustrations for advertisement are printed on at least one side of the advertisement printed part. The binding part is configured to be bound with the pages along an edge of the inside leaflet such that the binding part has less binding portions than those of the pages in order to leave no traces or marks when the inside leaflet is detached from the book. Accordingly, since the inside leaflet is able to be bound to pages of various kinds of books and easily removed from the books without leaving any traces or marks in the books, the inside leaflet contributes to extension of the application range of advertisements and improvement of advertisement efficiency.

Abstract: A response form security device is provided for use with a generally planar response form having an answer area bearing answer blanks upon which a respondent makes marks to indicate a plurality of responses. The security device includes a sleeve adapted and constructed to slidably receive and cover the response form. An access window is formed in the sleeve, and permits visual access by the respondent to a number of fewer than all of the answer areas of the response form. The length of the sleeve and the configuration of the answer window are chosen so as to prevent anyone other than the user from seeing a number of marks on the answer area sufficient to observe a repeatable pattern of marks.

Abstract: A method for producing a continuous web of printed material for use in creating mailpieces. The continuous web has a width and a length, the length comprised of a series of attached sheets. The series of attached sheets are comprising envelope sheets and rectangular content pages. The content pages are rectangular in shape and may be oriented relative to the envelope sheets in a number of different configurations. In some configurations, two sets of content pages and/or envelope sheets can be printed across the width of the web. Sheets for forming business return envelopes may be printed in series with the content pages and envelope sheets. BREs may include individualized return addresses. A control code may be printed on one or more of the sheets for a given mailpiece, providing information for controlling assembly of the mailpiece.

Abstract: Fanfold and/or perforated media comprising a substrate including one or more friable coatings and an overcoat covering at least a portion of the one or more friable coatings proximate to one or more associated fanfolds and/or perforations is provided, wherein the overcoat mitigates spallation of the one or more friable coatings. Methods and apparatus for making the same are also disclosed.

Abstract: A personal card carrier is configurable into open and closed positions, in which both broad faces of a contained card are effectively covered and protected against loss in the closed position, but are uncovered in the open position such that a data-embedded portion of the card is presentable to a card reader without necessitating removal of the card from the carrier.

Abstract: A tactile orientation indicator is positioned along the periphery of a bill, and a tactile denomination indicator is positioned elsewhere along the periphery of the bill. The user of the bill may then use their tactile senses to feel along the edges of the bill to orient the bill to a pre-determined orientation based on the location of the orientation indicator. The user then feels along the periphery of the bill to locate the denomination indicator. Using a predetermined system associating the location of the denomination indicator with a particular bill denomination, the user may then identify the denomination of the bill even if blind or otherwise visually impaired.

Abstract: The invention provides a thread and counterfeit preventive paper satisfying the conditions that, when the micro-character of the thread is viewed from one side and opposite side of the paper or printed material, the image of micro-character can be recognized in the same direction from any side, not in opposite direction to each other, and that, when viewed from the opposite side, the image of the corresponding micro-character is not visible. The counterfeit preventive paper and counterfeit preventive printed material have a structure in which a thread having metal deposition layers formed in a pattern of micro-character and colored printed layers formed thereon provided on both sides of a strip-like and light permeable substrate is inserted between paper layers.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a luminous advertisement sheet. The luminous advertisement sheet includes a light-transmitting print sheet having an EL advertisement region formed in at least one area of the print sheet, and a general advertisement region formed in the other area thereof. The EL advertisement region has at least one of a fixed pattern portion in which a transparent electrode layer, an EL layer and a dielectric layer are sequentially laminated and a variable pattern portion in which a transparent electrode layer, an EL layer, a dielectric layer and a plurality of pixel electrode layers are sequentially laminated. The general advertisement region allows general dye printing to be performed therein. The luminous advertisement sheet further includes a pattern electrode layer laminated and printed with a conductive ink material to have a predetermined luminous pattern in at least one area of the dielectric layer laminated in the fixed pattern portion and/or the variable pattern portion.

The information page includes: an information part (3), and an attachment part (2) for attaching the information part to the security document. In order to make forgery visually detectable, the information part (3) is provided with a unique identifier (5), and the attachment part (2, 2?) is provided with the same unique identifier (5) as the information part (3).

Abstract: A multi-purpose card includes a combination of a plurality of coupons detachably cut into the redemption card, a bar code imprinted onto the redemption card, integrated circuit chips, and/or a scratch-off foil overlying an offer or information printed on the card. The multi-purpose card may be housed integrally in a promotional mailer in the form of a two-piece in one post card. The card is created and defined within the promotional mailer by score lines intermittently cut through a top layer, base layer and plastic film of the mailer in a manner to securely maintain the card in place until forcibly removed.

Abstract: A method of using a folding apparatus to form an outsert having product information printed thereon comprises making a plurality of folds in a first direction in a sheet of paper; aking a plurality of folds in a second direction perpendicular to said first direction to form folded articles; making another fold in said second direction to form an outsert including causing a movable member of a folding apparatus to make contact with and move an intermediate portion of a folded article towards a pair of adjustably-spaced folding members, at least one of said adjustably-spaced folding members having a position that is adjustable to allow said adjustably-spaced folding members to be adjustably spaced apart from each other by a distance that is within a range defined by a lower boundary of 0.25 inches and an upper boundary of 0.45 inches.

Abstract: Described are a number of mechanisms that can reduce transaction costs and increase the economic viability of a number of products. Included is a combination instant lottery ticket and debit card that makes it possible to issue prepaid debit cards having a relatively low monetary value. Also included is a combination on-line ticket/receipt and debit card that can automate the prize paying process, simplifying the retailer's responsibilities while reducing the potential for fraud. Various cash flow and authentication techniques such as age and location verification, nano payment methods and spam filters based on these mechanisms are also described. In addition, instant lottery tickets, and in particular, losing tickets can be provided with a small residual value by placing account information on the ticket. In another version, a lottery ticket can be combined with a payment card that operates as a closed payment system whereby the payment card can only be used with a specified vendor.

Abstract: Improved secure card packaging is provided which includes a concealed region within which an activation data field corresponding with a transaction card is located. The corresponding transaction card may be retainably disposed so that a proprietary account data field thereupon is not readable when the concealed region is selectively accessed. Upon accessing the concealed region, the activation data field may be read to activate the transaction card, e.g. at a point-of-sale location. Locating the activation data field within a concealed region reduces tampering risks. Tampering is further reduced by retained disposition of the transaction card so that the proprietary account data field is not readable prior to a purchase and card activation transaction.

Abstract: A device and method for allowing secure self-capture of multifold fingerprint impressions. The device includes a strip of fingerprint labels wrapped about a tubular ergonomic roller. A subject inserts the thumb of a first hand into the ergonomic roller and grips the roller between his thumb and forefinger. The subject then rolls the inked tip of a finger on his second hand across a label in a first rotational direction while rotating the ergonomic roller in an opposite rotational direction. To prevent fraudulent substitution of fingerprinting materials that are distributed to a subject, the materials are marked with machine readable invisible barcodes that are associated with a unique identification number. After a subject captures his fingerprints and submits his materials to a trusted observer, the barcodes on the materials are compared to the identification number to determine whether the materials submitted are in-fact those that were distributed to the subject.

Abstract: A label assembly that includes a face sheet with a label shape defined by one or more tearable lines of separation, a back sheet adjacent to the face sheet, and an adhesive material disposed between the face sheet and the back sheet. The back sheet includes at least one removable panel disposed over at least a portion of the label shape and including a grasp tab extending from the first removable panel into contact with a remaining portion of the back sheet or an edge of the label assembly. The label assembly also includes a registration structure for use in aligning and adhering the label shape to the object to be labeled.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a multilayer information page (1) for a security document, which includes an information part (3) allowing at least some information to be entered into the information page, a flexible and bending resistant connecting part (2) for connecting the information page to the security document, and a surface film (7) which at least partly covers the information part (3) and the connecting part (2) and which is fastened to the information page (1) by lamination. In order to make a possible attempt at forgery even easier to detect, a visible pattern (8) is provided between the connecting part (2) and the surface film (7), and between the visible pattern (8) and the surface film (7) or, correspondingly, between the visible pattern (8) and the connecting part (2), a detachment layer (9) is arranged which consists of separately residing areas preventing the connecting part (2) or, correspondingly, the surface film (7) from becoming firmly attached to the visible pattern (8).

Abstract: A trailer includes reference marks that depict the position whereby cargo may be placed for proper installation on the trailer. The reference marks may be applied by affixing a label onto the frame of the trailer respective of the trailer axle. One or more reference marks may be applied depicting the multiple positions, one for each of differently sized cargo, which may be welding power supplies. Instructions may also be used in conjunction with the labels for instructing placement of the welding power supply at the appropriate position respective of the trailer axle.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing an irregularly shaped Radio Frequency operable transaction device using conventional International Standards Organization dimensions for conventional transaction cards. The invention provides for normal manufacture of a plurality of transaction cards joined together in a single sheet. The outline of a RFID transaction device is impressed in a center portion of one of the transaction cards. A RFID transaction device may then be removed, or punched out of the transaction card in accordance with the transaction device outline.

Abstract: In a reply card enabling a recipient of said reply card to answer at least one request made by a sender of said reply card by taking a determined physical action on at least one identified zone of said reply card, provision is made for at least one identified zone of said reply card to be provided with a succession of signs printed with a conductive ink, and for a determined physical action to be taken that consists in perforating at least one of said identified zones so as to detach at least a portion of said succession of signs printed with a conductive ink from the reply card, the effect of said detaching being to prevent a radio-frequency read device possessed by the sender from receiving the answer associated with said succession of signs printed with a conductive ink and detached by the recipient.

The financial transaction card includes a front side, a back side, a signature block, and a validation code. The signature block includes a substrate having a bottom face and a top face wherein the bottom face is coupled to at least one of the sides of the card. The top face is substantially planar and includes a first data field and a second data field. The first data field and the second data field are non-overlapping. The validation code is associated with the account and is displayed within the second data field.

Abstract: A sticky note pad includes at least two stacks of sticky note sheets. Each sticky note sheet has a note-writing region, an index tab region projecting from a right lateral edge thereof, and a removable pressure sensitive adhesive layer provided on a bottom face thereof in proximity to a left lateral edge thereof. The index tab regions of the sticky note sheets of one of the stacks are staggered with respect to the index tab regions of the sticky note sheets of the other stack in a top-to-bottom direction, and are aligned to the same in a direction parallel to the lateral edges of the sticky note sheets. The removable key tag also has spaces on its foldable tail for entry of the vehicle owners name and the parking space number for the serviced vehicle.

Each of the appliqués further comprise a die cut section of breathable polyurethane tape, printed with a forward image on one side defined by a lightly-colored high-contrast window, and pre-printed plea to call if lost. The appliqués are coated with hypoallergenic acrylate adhesive for application to skin or other surfaces. Parents and custodians can apply one of said appliques' to their child, disabled person, or elderly charge, and write a contact telephone number in the window of the appliqué. This way, if their charge becomes lost, passersby will notice the appliqué, read the contact telephone number, and call the custodian.

Abstract: A control method and system provides coded access to a system by acquiring account identification data corresponding to a combination of a plurality of symbols. The account identification data is transmitted, for example to a remote server, to correlate the account identification data against an account database to evaluate corresponding account information. Based on the account information, access to the system may be controlled.

Abstract: Disclosed is an item, for example a document, including a substrate having thereon a multiplicity of separate printed markings, wherein the printed markings include both conductive printed markings and substantially non-conductive printed markings. The different conductive and substantially non-conductive regions on the substrate can be detected, for example by measuring the resistance or current of each printed marking. The pattern of different conductive and substantially non-conductive regions can be used as a security pattern of authenticity that cannot be replicated by standard office equipment, and/or can be used to encrypt information in binary code form in the item. A system for forming and detecting the different printed markings is also described.

Abstract: A calendar system comprising multiple (i.e., twelve) magnetic “month” sheets for each calendar month of the year, a magnetic “To Do List” sheet and a magnetic “Six Weeks at a Glance” sheet. Each sheet includes a header section that can variably depict the current month, year and/or day. The system further includes a plurality of magnetic “week” strips for securing to one of the sheets. Each “week” strip includes seven columns each having a day of the week imprinted adjacent thereto. Adjacent each day of the week indicia is a date space to which one of the numbered tabs is secured to appropriately label each day with the corresponding date for the particular week. A plurality of color-coded event tabs are also included for magnetically securing to one of the “week” strips positioned on a “Month” sheet or the “Six Weeks at a Glance” sheet, or directly to the “To Do List” sheet. Each time a week elapses, a “week” strip is moved from the current “Month” sheet to the “Six Weeks at a Glance Sheet.

Abstract: A multi-page printed medium features an advertising insert and includes a first printed page and a second printed page, and an insert located between the first and second pages. The insert includes a sheet having a fold separating a first panel and a second panel with a bending memory along the fold. A portion of a first adhesive is applied between the first panel and the first page and a second portion of adhesive is applied between the second panel and the second page. The second portion of adhesive has lesser adhesion than the first portion of adhesive such that when the second printed page is moved away from the first printed page the second page separates from the second panel.

Abstract: A transaction product includes a substrate and an account identifier. The substrate defines a plurality of pieces separable from a remainder of the substrate. Following separation of the plurality of pieces from the remainder of the substrate, the plurality of pieces are configured to be assembled with one another to define a three-dimensional object. The account identifier is attached to the substrate and links the transaction product to at least one of an account and a record, wherein the account identifier is machine readable by a point-of-sale terminal. Stored-value cards, combinations, methods of facilitating use of a transaction product and other embodiments are also disclosed.

The back sheet has a removable panel disposed over the label shape adhesive material and a registration structure aligned with the label shape. The registration structure is raised or raisable above the back sheet to allow an object for labeling to be positioned against the registration structure for proper alignment with the label.

Abstract: A journaling system including a binder, journaling sheets, and template sheet. The template sheet includes a plurality of spaced holes spatially arranged to correspond to at least some of the rings in the binder. Typically, each of the holes includes a slit that allows the template sheet to be inserted and removed from the binder without opening the rings. One or more windows are defined in the template sheet which allows a user to write therethrough onto a journaling sheet. A preprinted instruction is disposed adjacent to the window which instructs the user to write a message within the window.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a discontinuous business form construction created preferably from differential substrates that have been provided with one or more removable elements such as cards, labels, tags and differential substrates. The form construction is desirably a composite form having at least first and second discrete portions or segments one of which carries one or more removable elements and the other of which provides an information carrying portion. The form construction of the present invention is produced in such a manner so that when a series of the forms are placed into a stack, such as in a tray that supplies forms to a printing station or a laser printer, there is no significant pad lean. That is, the stack of forms retains a relatively square, rectangular or cube shaped as opposed to one having a sloped configuration, a high end and a low end, due to differential thicknesses between the two portions of the construction.

Abstract: An assembly for mailing an article requiring special services and a method for mailing same are provided. The assembly includes a return postcard, two anchor portions disposed on either side of the postcard, printer track strips having a plurality of holes for engaging a printer, such as a dot matrix printer, and a hole capable of being sensed by another type of printer, such as a thermal printer. The indicia printed upon the mailing assembly including the designator indicating the special service required, are printed using a single color thereby simplifying the printing process. The return postcard is removably attached to anchor portions such that the return postcard remains attached to the envelope until received by the addressee, at which time the return postcard may be removed from the anchor portions. The assembly is designed to incorporate a form into the return postcard to simplify preparation of the mailpiece for delivery by the special service.

Abstract: An easy care handbook constituted by a bound booklet containing recording pages and private information pages can be prepared by a simple method. The recording pages of the bound booklet are common for all users so that the bound booklet can be made in volume at a low price. The private pages are formed by a printable sheet having a printable side, an adhesive layer on the other side, and a detachable sheet removably attached onto the adhesive layer. Private information from a database can be printed by a printer onto the printable side prior to incorporating the printable sheet into the booklet. The detachable sheet is removed from the preprinted printable sheet and the adhesive layer is attached onto the recording page to form the private information pages.

Abstract: A single-sheet registration form and key packet that may be printed on a laser printer or other automated printing device during a registration process conducted by a commercial organization, such as a hotel or motel. The single-sheet registration form and key packet includes lines of perforations for separating the registration form from the key packet and for quickly folding the key packet in order to construct the key packet during the registration process. Additionally, the key-packet portion of the single-sheet registration form and key packet includes dye-cut slots for inserting magnetic key cards and metal keys.

Abstract: Each printed sheet product includes a core of flexible, microvoided polymer sheet material and a planar RFID assembly encoded with a unique electro/magnetic code permanently and integrally joined together with the core. The microvoided sheet material collapses around the core so the sheet product remains planar. Scoring defines one or more individual identification elements removable from a remainder of the sheet product that include at least a first element with RFID assembly but only part of the core. A separate magnetic strip storing its own unique data magnetically can be provided on the first removable element even at least partially overlying the RFID assembly for independent identification operation.

Scoring extends through the sheet product in the second core strip to define at least one and typically plural printed element(s) removable from a remainder of the sheet product, each including at least one of the printed variable data fields.
