  • Patent number: 6588747
Abstract: This specification discloses various types of games that preferably utilize a game ticket to provide a first game with a base award. A second or other succeeding game may provide the opportunity to multiply the award or otherwise provide additional or different (including possibly reduced or less valuable or desirable) prize. The specification discloses game tickets that preferably have hidden indicia for at least one of the games played in conjunction with the ticket, and the hidden indicia are preferably determined by scratching off a removable material. In one embodiment, the ticket includes hidden indicia for both a first game and a second game, and the second game includes a group of such indicia from which the player must pick to procure a single award multiplier. Portions of the game may be determined in conjunction with other gaming activities such as publicized multiplier determination games, announcements, or drawings.

  • Patent number: 6533274
Abstract: A ticket for and a method of conducting a probability game that can be used for instant lottery applications without the security risks normally associated with such games. Prior to generating the game tickets, the lottery or commercial entity decides what prizes they will offer and the frequency of those prizes appearing in the overall lottery. The total payout is determined based on standard statistical (probability) formulas. Based on this information, a computer is utilized to make a random selection of the number and/or symbol for each ticket that is that tickets winning number and the placement on the ticket of that winning number and/or symbol. Once the data is generated, an independent accounting firm verifies that each ticket does in fact contain a winner and that the placement of those winning numbers on the entire production run of tickets is without a pattern. When the verifications are completed satisfactorily, the tickets are printed and/or the data can be loaded to an on-line data base.

The game pieces are used in a game of chance having a predetermined number of winners with respect to the movement sequences. The method involves selecting the vertical difference (number of grid sections) between the start and end positions on the game piece, dividing the game pieces into parts and preferably randomly generating a series of marker moves for each part of the game piece. The series of marker moves, when applied to a game piece, results in a player's marker traveling from the start position to the end position. The mutable colorant composition may also include a molecular includant.

Abstract: Electronic and mechanical apparatus utilizing a voucher and game ticket combination and which operates as a technological aid in the play of a sweepstakes promotional game. The voucher may represent any document, receipt, stamp, or the like which evidences an expenditure or otherwise has utilitarian value and includes a game ticket, the latter of which can be used in the play of a sweepstakes game and where the apparatus actually functions as an aid in the play of the sweepstakes game. Preferably, the apparatus is a dispenser which dispenses the voucher and the game ticket combination. The ticket and the game apparatus function as a prepaid telephone card. In this way, the user will be able to access a telephone service, e.g. a long distance telephone service, using the prepaid phone card. The voucher portion will contain voucher indicia informing the user on the use of the voucher and the game ticket portion of the voucher will contain game indicia relating to a play of the sweepstakes promotional game.

Abstract: An improved scratch card instant lottery ticket includes micro-encapsulated chemical reactants which, when released, irreversibly form one of a visual color change or a fluorescence signature at a location of the card. Both the visual color change and fluorescence signature indicate that the location has been played. Scratch cards are also marked to indicate that they have been read. Cards are marked by either automatically activating chemical reactants to form a visual color and a fluorescence signature, heating a thermofluorescent material to alter a fluorescence signature, or applying a heat-responsive material to the scratch card in such that when the identification code is read, an altered material is detected. Also taught are a method and apparatus for evaluating the scratch card to determine which locations on the card have been played.

Abstract: A lottery ticket includes an upper edge, a lower edge, opposite side edges, and a first area located adjacent the upper edge, the first area having a first set of gaming indicia disposed thereon that form lower portions of prize symbols. A second area is located adjacent the lower edge, the second area having a second set of gaming indicia disposed thereon that form upper portions of prize symbols. The arrangement is such that upon folding the ticket about a horizontal axis and aligning the second set of gaming indicia above the first set of gaming indicia, the winning status of the lottery ticket is determined if the upper portions of prize symbols register with the lower portions of prize symbols to create at least one complete prize symbol. Other lottery ticket constructions are further contemplated. A method of playing a lottery game is further disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5997044
Abstract: Information can be retrieved from documents such as game cards and document security can be improved by printing electronic circuits or circuit elements on the ticket. Conductive or semiconductive ink can be printed on the document by using gravure, relief, planographic, letter press or flexographic methods to form the circuit elements. In one lottery ticket embodiment the circuit elements are printed over play indica and under a scratch-off coating so that they are removed when the ticket is played. An electronic verification machine can then be used to determine which portions of the scratch-off coatings covering the play indicia have been removed. A second group of circuit elements can also be printed under the play indicia which improves security by blocking light that may be shined through the ticket and by being tested, along with the first group of circuit elements, for integrity by the electronic verification machine.
