The coupling comprises a first and second coupling portion, with the second coupling portion rotatable relative to the first coupling portion. There are two bearings and a ring shaped piston that slides toward the second bearing in response to fluid pressure inside the coupling. Engagement of the piston with the second bearing urges the second coupling portion towards the first coupling portion, against the action of fluid pressure between the first and second couplings. This reduces the load on the first bearing and transfers some of that load to the second bearing, thereby making it easier to rotate the second coupling portion.

Abstract: A tube testing connector adapted to engage a tube for pressurization thereof including a hollow body defining an entrance aperture at one end thereof for insertion of a tube to be tested and a pressure aperture defined in an end cap positioned at the other end of the body in sealing engagement with the body. The tester further includes a chamber having disposed therein retention gripping means to initially grip the inserted tube prior to pressurization. The connector operates such that when the tube is pressurized, the components of the tube testing connector exert an increased gripping force on the outer diameter of the tube to be tested so as to secure it in place during the test procedure.

  • Patent number: 5735553
Abstract: A flared tube fitting for mechanically connecting fluid transmission lines includes one or more diametrically guided and sealed pistons to engage the flared tube connection. These pistons are axially spring loaded and designed to apply a hydrostatic pressure force upon the engaged tube flare connection independent of the clamping force applied by the axially preloaded threaded engagement of the flared tube fitting to the nut member in which the flared transmission line is supported. In the tube connection with a conventional flare tube fitting, the loss of the clamping force of the preloaded threaded engagement will result in the separation of the flared line from the conically shaped end of the flared type fitting. External leakage will occur.

  • Patent number: 5707186
Abstract: A chuck-actuating spindle assembly has a hollow shaft extending along and rotatable about an axis, a clamping bar parallel to and rotatable with the shaft and axially displaceable relative to the shaft to clamp and release an object carried on the shaft, and a rotary union for transmitting a fluid to the object carried on the shaft. The union has in turn a union housing nonrotatable about the axis, an annular bar seal face on the clamping bar, and a sealing member axially movable in the union housing independently of the bar face, forming a pressurizable space with the union housing, and having an annular member seal face axially confronting and axially engageable with the bar seal face. The seal faces form a portion of a passage extending from the space along the bar and shaft to the object. Rotation of the sealing member about the axis relative to the union housing is inhibited and the member is braced against the union housing axially away from the bar seal face with a predetermined biasing force.
