For Concentric Tubes Or Pipes (e.g., Well Casing Or Wellhead Type) Patents (Class 285/123.1)
  • Publication number: 20130113205
Abstract: A coupling member assembly for a flexible hose, the flexible hose automatically expands longitudinally and laterally upon the application of a fluid pressure. Upon release of the fluid pressure within the hose, the hose will automatically contract to a contracted condition. The hose includes an inner tube made from an elastic material and an outer tube made from a non-elastic material that secured together by the coupling member. The inner tube is positioned concentrically within the outer tube in both a contracted condition and an expanded condition. The outer tube is secured to the inner tube only at a first end of the inner and outer tubes by use of a male coupler member and at a second end of the inner and outer tubes by use of a female coupler member. The outer tube moves laterally and longitudinally with respect to the inner tube when the tubes are transitioning between a contracted condition and an expanded condition.

  • Patent number: 8403057
Abstract: A wellhead connection including first and second housings with the first housing partly within the second housing to form an annulus. The housings form a seal to a cylindrical inner bore when connected together. The first housing has a circumferential groove formed in its outer periphery. A radially expandable and contractable latch ring formed from latch ring segments is located in the annulus adjacent the circumferential groove. Radial actuators extend through the second housing to the latch ring segments to move the latch ring segments between a contracted position with the latch ring in contact with the circumferential groove, and an expanded position, with the latch ring out of contact with the circumferential groove. The upper and lower housings are adapted to lock the latch ring in the contracted position by applying a downward force on the latch rings, or by tightening the bottom connector to a wellhead member.

  • Patent number: 8316948
Abstract: A box and pin coupling for a drilling riser having an actuator assembly with an attached dog. The actuator assembly includes an actuation rod having an end affixed to the dog. A portion of the rod is circumscribed by an annular sleeve, where the outer surface of the sleeve is threadingly attached to one of the box or pin. A shoulder is formed on the rod outer circumference between the sleeve and the end of the rod attached to the dog. A retainer cap is provided on the end of the rod opposite where it attaches to the dog. The sleeve abuts the rod on one end, and the retainer cap on the other, so that rotating the sleeve axially moves the actuation rod, that in turn moves the attached dog into or out of engagement with a profile on the other of the box or pin.

  • Patent number: 7614453
Abstract: In accordance with certain embodiments, the present invention provides a connector for attaching to a multi-toothed profile on a wellhead features a tooth profile that staggers loading preferably starting at a loading surface furthest from the connector body sitting on the wellhead and moving toward the connector body. The staggered loading more evenly distributes stresses on the matching loading surfaces as compared to the result of using a tooth profile on the connector that nearly exactly matches the profile on the wellhead. The joint can then take advantage of an increased preload and exhibit improved stress characteristics when operating at high loading conditions.

Abstract: A method of fluidly connecting coaxially aligned first and second couplings (50, 130), wherein the both couplings (50, 130) have an inner high pressure passage (26) and a coaxial outer lower pressure passage (53). Initially the first coupling inner high pressure passage (26) is fluidly connected with the first outer lower pressure passage (53) while isolating the second coupling inner high pressure passage (166) and the coaxial outer lower pressure passage (151). Then the first coupling inner high pressure passage (26) and one of the second coupling inner and outer passages (166, 151) is fluidly connected with the first coupling coaxial outer lower pressure passage (53) while isolating the other of the second coupling inner and outer passages (166, 151).

  • Patent number: 7578528
Abstract: A configuration for sealing-off two fluid-carrying subassemblies, in particular for sealing-off a case, the inner space of which is filled with a first fluid and through the inner space of which there is led a pipeline filled with another fluid which flows into a construction space that is separated from the inner space filled with the first fluid by a case wall. Between a first sealing element and a second sealing element there is disposed a supporting ring, which, on each of its side faces assigned to the sealing elements, has a contour for the reception and diversion of a fluid volume which has flowed onto the supporting ring as a result of leakage in the region of the respectively assigned sealing element.

  • Patent number: 7543659
Abstract: A connector connects auxiliary flow lines and electrical lines that extend through and terminate at or near opposing ends of two respective components of a downhole tool string. The connector comprises a body assembly for fluidly-connecting the auxiliary flow lines and electrically-connecting the electrical lines of the respective two components, and an assembly for adjusting the length of the body assembly. The two components are discrete modules of a unitary tool, or alternatively, are distinct tools. Additionally, the connector may include a mechanism for closing the auxiliary flow lines of one or both compartments upon disconnection of the fluid connection between the two components.

Abstract: A pipe assembly including secondary leak containment and leak indication is described with particular reference to a lubricant-carrying pipe for supplying oil to an internal bearing chamber in a gas turbine engine. The oil pipe crosses a hot gas zone to a manifold on the engine inner casing so that an oil leak is a potential fire hazard. The connection into the bearing chamber manifold includes a secondary containment system that ensures that any leakage from the oil pipe seal is contained within an interstitial space between the pipe and a co-axial, secondary containment member. The interstitial space opens into a relatively safe zone outside the outer engine casing where the fire or safety hazard is eliminated or does not exist.

  • Patent number: 7503391
Abstract: A tieback connector for attaching a riser to a subsea production assembly is provided. The tieback connector includes a main body adapted to be coupled to the subsea production assembly having a central passageway sufficiently large to pass an end of the riser string therein and a connector positioner coupled to the main body, which is adapted to secure the tieback connector around a circumferential surface of a wellhead of the subsea production assembly. The tieback connector further comprises an aligning extension portion defined by a funnel-shaped tip, which aids alignment of the riser terminus during landing of the riser string onto the wellhead. The tieback connector secures the riser to the wellhead.

Abstract: A drilling flange and an independent screwed wellhead provides a metal-to-metal seal that supplements the traditional elastomeric O-rings for providing a fluid seal between the drilling flange and the wellhead. The metal-to-metal seal may be achieved using a metal ring gasket or two contacting metal surfaces that are machined to required tolerances and are configured to be forced together when the drilling flange is mounted to the wellhead. The metal-to-metal seal ensures a fluid seal between the flange body and the wellhead in the event that the O-rings malfunction or are destroyed by fire.
