    Abstract: An improved crimp joint for joining components of gas or fluid distribution systems is disclosed. The joint is particularly suited for use with components made from low ductility materials including die cast metals. The joint comprises a flange formed by a first joined component and a second component that defines a second mating surface and a lip that is configured to closely surround at least a portion of the flange when the flange is positioned adjacent to the second mating surface. The joint is formed by deforming the lip to overlie the flange, capturing the flange between the deformed lip and the second mating surface. The flange includes a bead formed near the periphery of the flange on a surface against which the lip is deformed to abut to form the crimp joint. The bead is sized to deform and engage the lip thereby increasing the strength of the crimp joint.

    Abstract: A full flow water connector assembly has a connector with prongs of a certain length that are separated by notches. The end of the connector with the prongs is passed through an opening in a diaphragm and the prongs protrude through respective slots in a diffuser/retainer member. The prongs are then bent so as to press the diffuser/retainer member so as to secure the diaphragm and hold the connector assembly together. The diffuser/retainer member has segments between the slots, the segments contacting the notches when the diffuser/retainer member is pressed sufficiently far. The length of the prongs beyond the notches limits the maximum amount of compression that the diffuser/retainer member can exert against the diaphragm material, thereby minimizing the chance of cracking and subsequent failure of the diaphragm material.

The retainer is disposed over the downwardly extending diameter portion and adhered to the tank. The inlet tube is then inserted into the fuel tank aperture until the inlet tubes annular flange engages the fuel tank's annular lip. A crimping tool is then inserted through the axial bore of the inlet tube and a plurality of bearings contained on the crimping tool are forced radially outwardly to thereby crimp the inlet tube and downwardly extending diameter portion together. The retainer member includes a plurality of recessed areas for hosting the expanded inlet tube and tank portions.
