Abstract: An expansion joint spring clip can eliminate flutter, pulsations and reverse bending on non-metallic fabric flue duct expansion joints. The expansion joint spring clip can hold the expansion joint in a fixed arch such that it can still perform its function with regard to accommodating the ducting system movements. The expansion joint spring clip allows the entire width of the non-metallic expansion joint to retain its position during start-ups, downloading and during full or partial boiler, kiln, furnace loads and the like. The expansion joint spring clip can be installed in the existing geometry of an expansion joint by producing an arch while not damaging the expansion joint after being installed. The expansion joint can still accommodate axial and limited lateral movements, allowing the expansion joint to perform its function.

  • Patent number: 4718702
Abstract: The coupling comprises a sleeve which receives a pair of tubular elements thereabout. One of the elements is pinned to the sleeve, and the other has a restricted, axially-movable relationship with the sleeve. Terminal ends of the tubular elements are spaced apart, in a mutually confronting relationship, and have mounted thereto circular and resilient webs or discs. The peripheries of the discs are fastened together, and the discs resiliently flex to accommodate for expansion and contraction of the tubular elements.

  • Patent number: 4659117
Abstract: For decoupling an exhaust system while suppressing or damping motion and cutting down noise as far as possible, a flexible joint or articulation for the exhaust system of a motor vehicle has a flexible duct part with support parts joined with its ends for outer damping members. The flexible duct part is so designed that the support parts are overlapped on the outer side of the duct part forming pockets acting as housings for compacts of compressed metal wire for damping motion of the support parts in relation to each other.

  • Patent number: 4645244
Abstract: An aircraft duct gimbaled joint is disclosed which permits the ducting to be deflected when high pressure--high temperature gases, vibration and gravitational forces upon take off and during vertical climbs cause substantial expansion and movement. The gimbaled joint comprises two spaced apart end rings, each formed with a pair of perpendicular protruding lobes which are inserted into slots formed in the end face of a center ring. The protruding lobes of the end rings are pivotally connected to the center ring by pivot pins which are doubly supported by the inner and outer walls of the center ring. The lobes of the first end ring are rotated 90 degrees relative to the second end ring providing movement about a vertical and horizontal axis. The rings are sealed by a flexible bellows which fit over and enclose the center ring.

  • Patent number: 4611827
Abstract: A first sleeve is connected to a second sleeve by means of a bellows. Brackets are arranged at the mutual circumferential distance along the circumferences of the sleeves which brackets are welded to the first sleeve at an end section thereof. The opposite end section of the brackets rest slidingly on the second sleeve. A clamping ring extends around the second end sections of the brackets at an inclined surface area thereof. This clamping ring is pushed onto these inclined surfaces and urges the end sections of the brackets against the second sleeve. The limiting of the stroke of the compensator is provided by circumferential rings welded to the second sleeve. The relative rotation blocking means is an elongated profile member which is welded onto the second sleeve and contacts a respective bracket.

  • Patent number: 4577659
Abstract: The invention is directed to a coupling arrangement for pipe conduits thrh which a medium containing radioactive or toxic substances is conveyed. The coupling arrangement includes a first coupling unit mounted on the end of a first one of the pipe conduits. A conduit engaging assembly is mounted at the end of the second one of the pipe conduits and includes an inner conduit segment tightly connected to and aligned with the second pipe conduit. A tubular member is arranged in surrounding relationship to the inner conduit segment so as to be coaxial therewith. The tubular member has a forward free end facing toward the first coupling unit and a second coupling unit is mounted on the forward free end of the tubular member and is joinable to the first coupling unit.

  • Patent number: 4526409
Abstract: An expansion joint of the bellows type for installation between the end portions of two aligned pipes utilizes two stop members within the bellows being movable relative to one another and each being supported by opposite end portions of the joint for limiting the axial extension of the joint. Each stop member includes a tubular sleeve being fixed at one end to a respective end portion of the joint and a ring at the sleeve end opposite its attached end. When the joint extends axially a predetermined amount, the rings engage one another and prevent any further joint extension.

  • Patent number: 4350372
Abstract: An expansion coupling connecting a first pipe with a second pipe includes an imperforate expansion member having a first cylindrical end capable of fitting to and forming an impervious fluid seal with the first pipe and a second cylindrical end capable of fitting to and forming an impervious fluid seal to the second pipe. Integrally formed with and interspaced between the first and second cylindrical ends is an expandable, contractable bellows. A sliding sleeve fits over the expansion member and both protects it and prevents distortion of the bellows portion of the expansion member. The sliding sleeve has a first sleeve member, a portion of which connects to the first pipe and a portion of which extends over the bellows, and a second sleeve member, a portion of which connects to the second pipe and a portion of which slides over that portion of the first sleeve member located over the bellows. As the bellows expands and contracts the respective sleeve members slide with respect to each other.
