  • Patent number: 4906031
Abstract: A coupling comprising an outer socket or receptacle part having an internal opening, and a nipple or insert part which is sized to be inserted into the opening of the receptacle part. The receptacle and insert parts are provided with outer and inner lock ring grooves, respectively, which are substantially aligned in the radial direction when the parts are assembled. A garter spring is located in and extends between the two grooves when the parts are assembled in order to lock the parts together. The groove of one of the two parts has an arcuate surface and the radius of the surface is substantially the same as the radius of the coils of the spring, whereby the arcuate surface supports the coils and retards flattening of the coils. The groove of the other of the two parts has a surface which overlies the spring and holds the spring in place in the grooves even if the spring should break.

  • Patent number: 4828297
Abstract: A coupling between an end of a fluid conducting tube and a socket in a housing at the end of a fluid conducting passage in the housing. An annular shoulder on the tube seats on an annular base of the socket in an installed position of the tube and a annulus is defined between the outside of the tube and a circular entry to the socket above the base. A tubular plastic retainer, slidably disposed on the tube behind the annular shoulder and outside the socket, has an outwardly flared front end section which is squeezed to the smaller diameter of the circular entry and pushed into the annulus between the entry and the tube. In a seated position of the retainer, the flared front end section radially overlaps the annular shoulder so that a shear section of the retainer is defined between the annular shoulder and the circular entry. The shear section resists withdrawal of the tube from the socket.

  • Patent number: 4811975
Abstract: A fluid coupling for a conduit which features a quick connect-disconnect construction between first and second coupling members. The first coupling member is connected to the conduit and is generally cylindrical, having a main portion and a reduced diameter portion. Peripheral grooves on the reduced portion contain sealing rings which form a fluid-tight seal with a second coupling member that fits over the first member, the sealing rings contacting an internal bore. The principal seal is provided by a resilient O-Ring which is located in the groove located at the intersection of a wall that intersects the reduced diameter portion of the first coupling member. This contacts a shoulder formed on a wall which intersects part of the bore of the second coupling member. This provides both axial and radial compression between the coupling members. Abstract: A female connector member for use in a quickly-attachable connector assembly with a male connector member comprises a housing formed with a socket for receiving the male connector member and further formed with a pair of circumferentially-spaced openings through a wall leading into said socket; and a locking member having a flexible arcuate section received on the outer face of the housing, and a pair of oblique locking elements normally projecting through the openings into the socket for locking the male connector member therein. The outer faces of the locking elements are inclined at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the socket and converge in the direction of the mouth of the socket, such as to facilitate the insertion of the male connector member into the socket by a small push force and to lock the male connector member against withdrawal from the socket even by a large pull force.

  • Patent number: 4655482
Abstract: A first annular ring (44) has a keyed opening (64) sized to fit around the nut region (40) of a male coupling (14), and a second annular ring (42) has a keyed opening (52) sized to fit around the nut (26) of a female coupling (12). Each ring (42, 44) has mating ratchet teeth (56, 62), and these rings (42, 44) are biased together, thereby engaging these teeth (56, 62) and preventing rotation of these rings. This in turn prevents the rotation of the male nut region (40) with respect to the female nut (26). For tube-to-bulkhead locking, one facet (70) of one ring (44) is notched, and a pin (88) is pressed into an opening (84, 86) in the bulkhead (80). This pin (88) is sized to fit within one of the notches (74) in the ring (44), thereby preventing rotation of this ring (44) with respect to the bulkhead (80 ).

  • Patent number: 4653780
Abstract: An end fitting provides a coupling for a pair of parts which may be misaligned. One of the possibly misaligned parts is a nut having a bore therein. The other part is a ferrule fitting in the bore and, preferably having a lip seal thereon. A pair of confronting annular U-shaped slots are formed in the two parts, with a pin wire ring resting in the slots in order to join the two parts. The cross-sections of the two U-shaped slots are skewed with respect to a perpendicular to the bore, by an angle in the range of 6-degrees to 45-degrees, with the preferred angle being 15-degrees. The pin wire ring rides up and down the resulting tapered walls of the slots to compensate for any misalignment.
