Movable Jaw (e.g., Contractible Socket) Patents (Class 285/322)
  • Patent number: 6447021
Abstract: A locking telescoping joint is for use in a conduit connected to a wellhead, which permits the conduit to be axially displaced to a new position in the well bore without disconnecting the conduit from the wellhead, and secured in the new position. The locking telescoping joint includes two telescopically interconnected tubular sections which are relatively movable between a fully retracted and a fully extended position and can be locked in a desired position. In contrast with telescoping joints without the locking function which is useful to axially display downhole tools attached to the bottom end of the conduit. The locking telescoping joint enables the use of the telescoping joint to be extended into new applications, such as placing and maintaining a tubing string in tension or compression. The use of the locking telescoping joint reduces the time and cost of many well completion and maintenance operations and thereby reduces the cost of producing hydrocarbons.

Abstract: A spring retainer clip used with a quick-connect coupling for coupling a male connector having an outwardly extending protrusion in a bore of a female connector having an inwardly extending protrusion wherein the outwardly and inwardly extending protrusions are separated by an annular gap. The spring retainer clip comprises a ring having an axially extending collar for fitting around the male connector and a radially extending base unitary with the collar. A plurality of spring arms, unitary with and extending axially from the radially extending base, have transverse T-bars at free ends thereof adapted to extend through the gap between the protrusions and block movement of the protrusions past one another. Consequently, the male and female connectors cannot be separated if the width of the gap is substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 6170887
Abstract: A socketless fitting for releasable connection of a pressurized line. The fitting has a housing body with a receiving opening to insert one end of the line, and an inner sleeve attached in the housing body in an arrangement that extends coaxially within the receiving opening for engagement into the inserted line end. The inner sleeve is fastened in the housing body media-tight around the periphery via connectors and preferably engages in the line media-tight around the periphery. Media-tight outward sealing is accomplished by sealing engagement of the essentially rigidly secured inner sleeve in the line, because the inner sleeve itself is also tightly joined to the housing body.

  • Patent number: 6158783
Abstract: An improved and cost-effective plug-in coupling for leak-proof attachment of a pressure pipe to a pressure vessel, including a weldable ferrule secured in an opening in the pressure vessel, a plug-in fitting attached to the pressure pipe and having a plug portion inserted into a central bore of the ferrule, a pair of O-rings sealingly engaging the plug portion of the fitting and the central bore of the ferrule, and a snap ring for retaining the plug portion of the fitting in the central bore of the ferrule. The ferrule includes a broad cylindrical head that contacts the outer periphery of the pressure vessel, the ferrule being welded to the pressure vessel at the outer radial periphery of such head to form a leak-proof and durable seal between the ferrule and the pressure vessel. The broad ferrule head absorbs and dissipates the heat from the welding operation, minimizing any heat-related distortion of the central bore.

  • Patent number: 6155607
Abstract: A quick coupler for a first tube with a plug end and a second tube with a socket end, the first tube including a bead formed proximate the distal end of the tube and a circumferential groove between the bead and the distal end. A first O-ring is disposed in the groove, and a second O-ring is received about the first tube adjacent the forward end of the bead. The plug end of the tube is received within the socket of the second pipe and a collet and shell retain the pipes together. The collet includes a cylindrical sidewall with a series of resilient segmented fingers. Each of the fingers has a radially inward directed tab at its distal end. The collet is slid along the first tube until an annular endwall on the collet abuts the bead, with the fingers resiliently outwardly deflecting to surround the socket of the second tube and retain the first tube to the second tube. The shell is then slid over the collet and provides an inward force on the collet to draw the tubes together.
