  • Publication number: 20020163191
Abstract: A plug-in coupling having a base body (6), a sealing ring (12, 13), a locking ring (40) and an annular body which can be connected to the base body (6). A pipe end (4, 5) can be locked in position by the locking ring (40). The plug-in coupling of the invention enables a connection to be made with at least one pipe end in a simple, functionally reliable manner, in such a way that pipes made of different materials can be used together. The pipe ends (4, 5) can be inserted into an axial annular gap or space (27) between the base body (6) and the annular body (18, 19) in such a way that the sealing ring (12) lies adjacent the interior of the pipe end (4, 5), making a good seal with the pipe end, and also in such a way that the locking ring (40) is located in the annular gap (27). The locking ring (40) is prestressed and adjoins the locking surface (20) of the annular body (18) on one side and the exterior surface of the inserted pipe end (4, 5) on the other side.

Abstract: An inventive air duct includes a blow molded tubular body of a first material having at least one annular open end, the open end terminating at a radially outwardly extending lip. A cuff of a second material is molded to the main body such that at least a portion of the lip is embedded within the cuff. Before molding the cuff, a portion of the main body adjacent the open end is pre-formed to remove any seams created during blow molding and to provide improved dimensional stability. Thus, leak pathways are minimized. The improved dimensional stability in combination with the use of an outwardly extending lip, a portion of which is embedded within the cuff, helps promote a strong seal between the cuff and the main body.

Abstract: The assembly of a connection that uses cooperating grooved surfaces to provide an easily disassembled and assembled connection is improved by the use of a centered lip and cooperating groove on the contact faces of the connection halves that engage the faces of complementary connection ends to prevent lateral misalignment while the pipe ends are brought together for axial alignment. The lip extends into the groove to trap a gasket retained within the groove and inhibit extrusion of the gasket between the contact faces under high pressure conditions. The centering device may be used with a clamping mechanism to provide single person assembly of this type of connection despite normal field misalignments. The trapping cavity formed by the faces of the connection ends particularly enhances the pressure capacity of elastomeric gasket applications.

  • Patent number: 6120067
Abstract: A connector for connecting large tubes of the type used in oil well tubing, casing and the like, without resorting to welding, to form a pipe string for use in drilling. The connector comprises a pin and box threaded connection having guiding surfaces integral with the pin and box members to facilitate the threaded connection of large tubes. The connection is designed so that large tubes, for example tubes comprising an external diameter of two or more feet, may be joined by threaded connection facilitated by the integral guiding surfaces of the pin and box threaded members. The integral guiding surfaces allow large tubes, which are otherwise too cumbersome to position and manipulate for threaded connection to be practical, to be quickly and safely connected by threaded engagement of the pin and box members without the use of a weld between the tubes.

Abstract: A joint coupling is disclosed for connecting sections of conduit. The present joint coupling includes a male connector portion having an inner side and an outer side, having a barb on one or both of the sides. A gasket is received on the male connector portion, and has one or more fins on the side opposite the barb. A female connector portion receives and engages the male connector portion and includes a first side having a lock down lip for engaging the barb and a second side for contacting the gasket fins. The fins bias the connector portions in an interference to create a transverse locking force that securely retains the connector portions. The connector portions can be formed directly on the sections of conduit, or can be formed on a discrete conduit cap or an intermediate coupler, for joining sections of conduit.

Abstract: A hydraulic coupling having a lower tubular member and an upper tubular member for sealing engagement one with the other. The lower and upper members are maintained in axial engagement by an axial load. The lower member and the upper member each have an annular body having an axial bore therethrough for the passage of fluid. A metal, concentric inner annular seal leg and outer annular alignment leg extend from the body of the upper member, defining an annular sealing recess between the seal legs. An annular metal sealing portion or wall extends from the body of the lower member and has an inner diameter that defines a sealing surface for insertion into the sealing recess for sealingly engaging the inner annular seal leg. The sealing recess has a backup elastomer ring, which is axially compressed by the sealing portion. When the couplers are made up, the metal-to-metal seal is achieved due to an interference fit between the coupler halves.
