  • Patent number: 8573653
Abstract: A fitting component for receiving a tube is provided. The tube has a tube end inserted through a ferrule, the portion of the tube end extending beyond the ferrule being called a pilot. The fitting component comprises a body including a cavity for receiving the tube end and the ferrule. The cavity is defined by an inner lateral wall and opens on an extremity of the body. The cavity includes a pilot receiving section and a channel connecting the cavity to another portion of the body. A radial annular flange is located at the interface of the pilot receiving section with the channel. The flange has an annular sealing lip protruding towards the cavity. The sealing lip is for forming a seal with a radial surface of the pilot, advantageously reducing dead volumes within the fitting component when in use.

Abstract: A pipe connection has a aped pipe, a screw fitting body having an internal cone, a union nut, screwable onto the screw fitting body, having an internal clamping face, which, in the operating state of the pipe connection, works together with an outwardly projecting retention face of a retention bulge of the pipe which is produced facing away from the pipe end by reshaping and projects radially outward beyond the outer mantle surface of the pipe, and having an adapter ring which is supported on the side facing toward the screw fitting body by a conical clamping face in the internal cone of the screw fitting body. To provide an alternative pipe connection of this type, the adapter ring may be supported in the operating state on the side facing toward the pipe by a radially running contact face on the radially running front face of the pipe end.

  • Patent number: 7815226
Abstract: A tube fitting that uses only two components, namely a fitting body and a fitting nut. The nut and body are adapted to be threadably coupled together by relative rotation therebetween. The nut includes an integral tube gripping ring that cooperates with a camming surface on the body when the fitting is made-up. The camming surface preferably has a steep camming angle. The ring is radially compressed against the tube outer wall to form a seal and a tight tube grip. The ring also forms a line contact-type seal against the camming surface. The ring is designed to have a hinging action and to plastically deform during pull-up to embed into the tubing for excellent tube grip, and an axially adjacent swage or collet zone that isolates any stress riser resulting from the embedding action from vibration effects. The fitting components, and particularly the ring, may be case hardened. The fitting may include a self-gauging feature to indicate sufficient pull-up and to prevent excessive pull-up.

  • Patent number: 7806443
Abstract: A method and apparatus for connecting air conditioning coolant lines. The apparatus comprises a coupler body, a coolant line, a flexible annular seal, a nut, and a deformable annular retainer. The coupler body has a passageway extending therethrough and a coolant line has an end portion disposed at least partially within the passageway. A flexible annular seal is disposed within the passageway in the coupler body for sealingly engaging the deformable annular retainer. The nut receives the coolant line therein and threadedly engages the coupler body. The deformable annular retainer engages with the nut and the coupler body, and the end portion of the coolant line is disposed within the deformable annular retainer, wherein the threaded engagement of the nut with the coupler body urges the deformable annular retainer into a sealing engagement with the coupler body and the coolant line.

Abstract: A coupling element (1) comprising a male sealing element (5) is disclosed herein. The male sealing element comprises a first end (7), second end (9), and a longitudinal axis extending between the first and second end. The coupling element is housed within a nut (3). In one aspect, the male sealing element has a generally cylindrical shape. Also, the male sealing element defines a fluid passageway therethrough for the transmission of fluid. The male sealing element is secured to a ferrule (13) which is located within a cavity of the nut. The first end of the male sealing element defines a conical sealing surface. In one aspect, the male conical sealing surface (17) mates with a female sealing element (23) which has a receptacle that is defined by a nearly complementary conical geometry. In this aspect, the male conical sealing surface has a mismatched angle when compared to the complementary conical female sealing element.
