  • Patent number: 9267335
Abstract: There is provided a breech lock coupling for coupling riser sections together. The breech lock coupling may be used non-pre-loaded or pre-loaded according to the user's preferences. In addition, the breech lock coupling may be disassembled for inspection and maintenance and reassembled. A locking ring secures two coupling components together. The coupling components may be attached to opposite ends of the riser sections, such as via welding. The locking ring may be pre-attached to the first coupling component for easy storage and fast assembly. Assembly of the riser may be accomplished by inserting the second coupling component into the locking ring and the first coupling component, then rotating the locking ring with respect to the second component. Furthermore, the coupling may be pre-loaded by tightening fasteners on the locking ring to provide a more stable coupling. Unlike with traditional riser couplings, the pre-load fasteners may be tightened via hand-held tools.

Abstract: A claw clamp, such as that used in conjunction with an ISO flange is illustrated. The clamp is able to hold itself on a flange assembly prior to tightening. This is accomplished by a mechanism that pressures the two halves of the clamp together prior to tightening so that the clamp can be positioned on a flange assembly and will hold itself there without intervention until tightening.

Abstract: A method for forming a flange at an open end of a pipe comprises increasing the diameter of the open end of the pipe to form a radially-enlarged pipe wall. Radially-symmetric portions of the radially-enlarged pipe wall are then removed so as to form at least two opposing projecting portions, which are then bent outwardly so as to be at least substantially orthogonal to the pipe, thereby forming the flange on the pipe.

  • Patent number: 8177263
Abstract: A coupling for securing pipe elements together in end-to-end relation has segments joined end-to-end by adjustable connection members. The segments surround a central space which receives the pipe elements. One or more gripping bodies are captured between the segments. The gripping bodies are arranged opposite to each other. The segments have angularly oriented reaction surfaces on the connection members. The gripping bodies have angularly oriented contact surfaces which interface with the reaction surfaces. When the segments are drawn toward each other by the connection members, interaction between the reaction surfaces and the contact surfaces forces the gripping bodies radially inwardly. Inwardly facing arcuate surfaces on the segments and the gripping bodies engage and retain the pipe elements.

  • Patent number: 8172279
Abstract: A flanged member for a pipe system, and a method of manufacturing same. The flanged member has a radially projecting flange part and a pipe part. The flange part has a front end surface connects to another flange part, and a radially planar rear end surface facing the pipe part which delimits the rear end of the flange part against the pipe part, together with a radially inward extension of the rear end surface. The pipe part has a free end, adapted to be welded into the pipe system. Before final machining of the front surface of the flange part, the pipe part has an axial length such that its mass is at least 35% of the mass of the flange part so that upon welding of the free end of the pipe part, there is substantially no distortion of the rear surface of the flange part.

  • Patent number: 8091194
Abstract: The system according to the invention allows the separation of two equipment items of an installation in a confined environment, without interrupting the confinement inside this installation. It primarily comprises a confinement flange (10) placed tightly between the two parts of the installation, and comprising a slot (12) protected by a temporary cover (11). The assembly is completed by a guillotine made up of two closure plates (20A, 20B) pressed against each other before their insertion into the slot (12). Once this insertion of the guillotine is complete, the two closure plates (20A) and (20B) can be separated from each other so as to each constitute a tight covering of the two parts of the installation to be separated.
