The arms extend to secure against the side of the pull cord apparatus. The tool is fitted to the reel and the handle rotated to wind the reel to a fully wound position so that a new starter cord can be threaded into the reel and tied off. The tool is then released to allow the spring to unwind hence, winding a replacement cord onto the reel.

    Abstract: A tool is provided which facilitates the installation of a standard garbage disposal unit. The tool allows the installer to set the hanger frame around the sink opening sleeve without having to hold down the sink opening sleeve while attaching the circular spring to the lower end of the sink opening sleeve. The tool of the invention has a lower portion with frustoconical side to facilitate the expansion of the circular spring. The tool also has an upper portion which is generally cylindrical and which fits up into the lowermost end of the sink opening sleeve. Snap-on devices, such as spring-and-ball detents, are disposed around the upper portion of the tool to engage the tool to the annular lip at the lowermost end of the sink opening sleeve.

The machine is substantially entirely automated with various testing stations along the assembly line path. The machine uses various novel methods at the loaders that allow a substantially trouble free automated assembly.

The invention also discloses a protective shroud (30) used to protect an operator of the tool from injury caused by movement of the clip when released.

    Abstract: A device for chucking a zigzag spring, which comprises a pair of pawl elements, a drive source, and a detector. One of the two pawl elements may be moved and stoped at at least one position by operation of the drive source through detection of the detector, and then both two pawl elements are brought into engagement with both end portions of the zigzag spring, respectively, according to a length of the spring. The detector may comprise a plurality of proximity switches, one of which detects movement of such one of the pawl elements to that particular position. By those plural proximity switches, a base position may be set for that one of pawl elements in relation to another of them, according to a selected one of plural different zigzag springs with different lengths.

    Abstract: An attachment device for attaching both compressible spring-type ceiling fixtures and noncompressible ceiling fixtures on an inverted T-shaped ceiling bracket. Opposed gripping surfaces on the outer ends of first and second pivotally attached arms are movable between first and second positions. The gripping surfaces include U-shaped recesses that can hold a noncompressible ceiling fixture for installing it on the ceiling bracket with the use of an elongated rod from a position on the floor. A recess is formed on the outer side of the bottom portion of each of the U-shaped gripping surfaces. An adapter having a base therein with projections on the inside of the adapter base can be mounted on the gripping surfaces with the projections engaging the recesses to retain the adapter on the outer end of the gripping tool. A noncompressible mounting ceiling fixture can be placed therein.

    Abstract: A pliers for removing and manipulating a snap ring and like ring devices, wherein the pliers is defined by handles pivotally connected to each other. The handles comprise a pair of integrally formed jaw members that are provided with a positive engaging socket member formed on each of the respective free end portions of the jaw members. The socket members include a convergent socket arranged to lockingly receive the respective open free ends of the snap ring. A pivoting member is positioned intermediate the handles and jaw members with a biasing spring mounted between the oppositely disposed jaw members forwardly of the pivot member, whereby the jaw members are biased in an open position so as to forcibly engage each of the socket members with the respective open ends of the snap ring, thereby preventing the snap ring from being inadvertently removed or disengaged from the convergent sockets.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for producing a woven biased fabric in which the structural fibers are skewed from the fabric centerline. The method and apparatus are particularly designed for producing a woven biased structural fabric in which the structural fibers are oriented about 45.degree. to the fabric centerline, where the flimsy, open-knit nature of the fabric makes handling extremely difficult. Broadly speaking, the apparatus includes a fabric feeding station, slitting station, and winding station. The feeding station holds a roll of conventional structural fabric (parallel and perpendicular structural fibers) woven in a tube configuration and flattened into the roll form. The feeding station rotates the roll in a vertical plane as the fabric unwinds in a horizontal direction. The slitting station includes a cutter and a pair of slatter rolls, the rolls moving the tube of fabric in the horizontal direction while rotating the tube of fabric.
