Abstract: In the case where a product having a free-curved surface is obtained, a machining work is performed by separate machine tools. Therefore, works of attaching and removing a half-machined product are necessary. Consequently, a lot of working time and labor are required. Also in an automatic production system, productivity is lowered if the system is stopped by failure in gripping during the attaching and removing works and an enormous equipment cost is required. A machining apparatus M comprises a main chuck head 1 having a control axis for holding and rotating a long bar member W, a head stock assembly 3 having three or more control axes, and a bar member feeder 5 for feeding the long bar member W to the head stock assembly 3. • Patent number: 5765456
Abstract: A CNC automatic lathe has at least one carriage system having an X, a Y, and a Z axis that carries a tool revolver designed as a so-called disk revolver for working with lathe tools and rotary machining tools. In order to reduce as much as possible the distance between a defined cutting plane for the turning process and the carriage system, the Y axis forms with the normal to the cutting plane a relatively small acute angle (beta), so that when the tool revolver is rotated in a controlled manner around its axis, a rotatively driven machining tool mounted on the revolver and located in its working position is swivelled with its axis of rotation through an acute angle out of the cutting plane in the direction of the carriage system. The machining area of the machining tool thus described a movement with a component that extends in the minus direction of the Y axis.

  • Patent number: 5727296
Abstract: A tool carrier of a five-axis machine tool can be swivelled about a swivel axis which intersects a machining axis, about which a milling head is rotatable, in the region of the latter, at an acute angle which is preferably between 30.degree. and 60.degree., most preferably 45.degree.. As a result, during swivelling movements, only slight compensating movements, distributed over all the axes, are necessary, and yet the tool carrier can be kept short, so that deformations of the same remain small, which ensures high stability and great accuracy. In addition, large swivel angles of 90.degree. or more on both sides are possible without collision problems, which permits a great degree of adaptation of the position of the cutting edge to the workpiece surface and high surface quality as a result. The machine tool is especially suitable for milling turbine and engine blades as well as compressor impellers.

  • Patent number: 5343604
Abstract: In a combined working machine, a positional relationship between a machining position of a workpiece and a tool can be determined to an optional value by a combination of a slide amount of a carriage along a slant surface, a slide amount of a tool post along another slant surface, a pivot amount of a turret, and a rotational amount of a chuck of a headstock. That is, the tool of the tool post can be brought into contact with the workpiece from a slant direction, and a combined working including cutting by a cutting tool and drilling in a slant direction by a drill can be performed. Further, the tool of the tool post can be moved to the desired machining position of the workpiece from the slant direction, and thus the moving amount of the tool post in a vertical direction can be reduced to lower a height of a machine tool and to give stabilization thereto.

  • Patent number: 5307549
Abstract: A machine tool for performing drilling operations at a high speed on a rotating workpiece and for subsequently performing threading operations while minimizing loss time due to speed changes, based upon synchronization of the workpiece with tools that separately perform the drilling and threading operations. During the performance of the drilling operation, a high speed rotation of the workpiece is maintained and workpiece position is detected. The tapping tool is rotated to a similar high speed and is synchronized with the rotating workpiece in both rotational velocity and position. Upon completion of the drilling operation, tapping is performed and subsequent drilling operations may be resumed promptly. Since synchronization has been achieved, the switching between drilling and tapping operations may be obtained with little loss time.
