Abstract: A tool for dismounting a bicycle pedal crankarm from a crankshaft. A bicycle crankshaft has a mounting end and the crankarm has a crank mount having a bore therethrough having on one end a socket mounted on the crankshaft mounting end. The tool includes a puller and a handle. The puller comprises a housing having a column bore therein and having a proximal end and a distal end having screw threads adapted for mating attachment with internal screw threads in the crank mount bore. A column comprised of a piston and a rolling bearing is contained in the column bore and reciprocally slidable therein. The handle is pivotally connected to the puller and pivotable 180.degree. between an attachment position and a dismount position. Pivotal movement of the handle between an attachment position and a dismount position when the housing is attached to the crankarm mount moves a cam that moves the column against the crankshaft mounting end to dismount the crankarm.

The bearing inserts have an integral cylindrical extension of a second axial end of an inner race thereby eliminating the need for a separate spacing member within a hub of a skate wheel. An inner groove along an inner circumference of the inner race engages with a bearing insert tool for quick removal and insertion of bearing inserts from skate wheels. A groove along a flange of a first axial end of the inner race allows for attachment of a reflective element to an outer surface of the skate wheel.

  • Patent number: 5829896
Abstract: A device and method for installing a keycap spring in a computer keyboard having a vertical tube and a base for mounting the keycap spring at the bottom of the vertical tube. The device comprises a handle, a shaft with a tapered head connected to the handle, a sleeve which slides over the shaft, and a sleeve spring connected to the sleeve which slides over the shaft and fits between the sleeve and the handle. The keycap spring is inserted into the sleeve where it fits over the tapered head of the shaft. The tool is then inserted into the vertical tube and the end of the tool is placed over the base. Downward pressure is then applied to the tool, causing the keycap spring to be compressed inside the sleeve. When the keycap spring is fully compressed, the downward pressure applied by the user forces the bottom end of the keycap spring onto the base. The tool is then extracted. The keycap spring is held by the base, causing the spring to slide out of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5802692
Abstract: A glo-plug extractor is disclosed. An internally threaded sleeve is threaded over an externally threaded bolt having a bolt head at one end and a set of jaws at the other. The jaws are fitted to lock onto the head of a fully unscrewed, yet bound glo-plug. After the jaws are locked onto the glo-plug, the sleeve is braced against the engine head either by screwing the sleeve down over the jaws until it contacts the engine head or by placing some bracing apparatus such as a spacer or a set of legs between the sleeve and the engine head. Once the sleeve is braced, it must be locked in place using a locking apparatus such as vice grips or a wrench. The bolt head is then used to rotate the bolt relative to the sleeve. This rotation causes the sleeve to exert a pulling force on the bound glo-plug which either extracts the glo-plug whole or breaks it.

  • Patent number: 5033177
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for the removal and installation of sleeve bearings in a camshaft bore of an engine, such as a diesel engine. The device includes an operator rod, a bearing puller in accordance with U.S. Pat. No. 4,624,041, for engaging and pulling and/or pushing a sleeve bearing in the camshaft bore, apparatus for coupling the bearing puller along a rear end portion of the rod and at selected positions along the length of the rod for engaging sleeve bearings along the camshaft bore to both pull the bearings out of operating position and to reinstall bearings in operating positions, and apparatus for coupling the rod with a front face of the engine during the pulling and pushing of sleeve bearings for removal and installation of the bearings. In some embodiments of the apparatus the rod is operated by a wrench driven nut to pull and/or push the rod. In other embodiments the rod is operated by a hydraulic jack having an open hole piston fitting on the rod.

Abstract: Apparatus for assembling and installing Luer fittings comprises a hand held tool and an associated jig. The main body of the tool comprises an elongated, generally cylindrical housing externally configured to define a comfortable hand grip. An integral, reduced diameter nozzle projects forwardly from the housing for selectively, slidably engaging the male portion of a desired Luer fitting to be assembled. The housing concentrically mounts a spring-biased plunger driven by an external button adapted to be contacted by the user's hand. A metallic drive pin emanating from the plunger drive shaft penetrates the housing nozzle. An internal snap ring seated within an internal housing ring groove limits longitudinal plunger motion. The apparatus also includes an associated jig adapted to be mounted upon a supporting work surface. The jig firmly retains the locking ring of a Luer fitting in proper position for assembly.

Abstract: A tube protection device is positioned within a heat exchange tube of a nuclear steam generator to span a defect region and protect same against damage or deformation during withdrawal of the tube from the generator for subsequent defect analysis and testing. The tube protection device includes gripper means at the opposite ends thereof which are expansible from a relaxed condition permitting movement of the device through the tube to a clamped condition, releasably, frictionally engaging the contiguous interior sidewall surfaces of the tube at positions respectively spaced from the defect and spanning the defect region. An installation tool includes an elongaged linkage mechanism insertable through an open end of the tube for positioning the tube protection device and for operating same from the accessible portion of the linkage mechanism exterior to the open end of the tube between said relaxed and clamped conditions, and for remote withdrawal of the tube protection device from the tube.

  • Patent number: 4746158
Abstract: A gravity-operated tube gripper and puller actuated by a rotatably-operated latch is disclosed herein. The gripper includes a gripping means having a collet assembly with a threaded collet which is expandable by means of a frustro-conical body. The gripper further includes a suspension member connected to the frustro-conical body, and detachably connected to the expandable collet. The rotatably-operated latch of the gripper selectively disconnects the collet assembly, so that the weight of the frustro-conical body engages the mouth of the expandable collet, and expands the threaded exterior of the collet into the inner walls of the tube. The invention provides a tube gripper which is easily manually operated through a simple extension rod. It is particularly useful in removing sample tubes from areas of limited accessibility in the secondary sides of nuclear steam generators.

Abstract: A wire insertion tool for use with split cylinder terminals includes a shaft having a wire insertion post sized to fit within a split cylinder terminal and a sleeve fixed to the shaft with the tip of the sleeve sized to fit around the outside of the wire insertion terminal. A spring biased sliding sleeve is concentrically disposed between the tip of the shaft and the tip of the fixed sleeve. The sliding sleeve is displaceable by the walls of the split cylinder as a wire is inserted, and is spring biased outwardly to eject wire debris as the tool is extracted. Jamming of the tool by wire insertion debris is thereby avoided. A member is provided for removably interlocking the tool and a handle. A cam follower is secured to the handle and a cam surface is provided on an end of the tool for the tool to be locked into the handle when forced in one direction and released when forced in another.
