  • Patent number: 5560100
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically removing electronic components mounted on printed circuit boards has a lighting device for illuminating the printed circuit boards, an optical sensor, an image processing systems and various devices for removing the electronic components therefrom. The image processing system recognizes the coordinates of the contours and, preferably, also the types of components from the output signals supplied by the optical sensor and controls the device for removing the electronic components. Alternatively, the contours of the electronic components are recognized by infrared radiation. Additionally, a process is disclosed for removing the electronic components from printed circuit boards using the disclosed apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5307558
Abstract: In a parts mounting apparatus, suction nozzles are mounted on a rotating carrier driven by a motor. With rotation of the rotating carrier, parts are sucked by the nozzles at a feed station and carried to a mounting station where the parts such as electronic parts are mounted on substrates, for example. A counter counts output pulses from an encoder mounted in the motor driving the rotating carrier. A microcomputer determines the rotational speed and rotational position of the rotating carrier from the count value of the counter. Based on the result of the determination, the microcomputer calculates a timing for delivering a signal for switching the nozzles between two different pneumatic states.

Abstract: A spar assembly jig for tack-free positioning of aircraft spar components for subsequent fastening at a second location. Pneumatically operated clamps are mounted on the frame of such jig. The spar components are laid up in such jig and the clamp closed thereon to hold the members together as opposed to the prior art method of securing such components together by temporary fasteners or tacking. The assembly jig and so-assembled and clamped spar components are then transported by overhead crane to an automatic riveting machine. The riveting machine has a jaw defined by a spindle and anvil which fits above and below the jig assembly. The clamps have a swing-away feature such that as the spindle and anvil approach, the clamp swings out of the way so that such machine can drive a rivet through endcap and web at or near the spot vacated by the swing-away clamp. Abstract: In order to simplify production line layout and revision, a plurality of unmanned self-propelled vehicles are used. Some vehicles carry a work piece from station to station while auxiliary vehicles which remain at each station carry components and assembly robots. Transport vehicle are used to move new components from storage sites to the work place. To facilitate large scale operations a camera can be used to observe the vehicles and compare the movement pattern with a predetermined desired one in order to ascertain appropriate movement.

  • Patent number: 4924996
Abstract: A method for positioning a number of working implements, for example spray nozzles, to certain working or treatment points on a car body as the latter is supported by an overhead conveyor for travel between different working and assembly stations on a production line. A vertically movable base structure is provided and a working implement carrying frame is movably supported on the base structure. Hydraulic jacks on the base structure are arranged to accomplish a vertical parallel movement of the frame up toward the underside of the car body until one of four contact sensors indicates contact with the latter. A final vertical adjustment of the frame is accomplished by four vertical cylinders which raise the frame in a non-parallel movement until at least three of the four contact sensors indicate contact with the car body. The docking of the frame to the car body is completed by activating two expandable dowels which are introduced into openings in the car body bottom shell.

  • Patent number: 4852237
Abstract: Windshields are automatically mounted on automobiles on the assembly-line by advancing a gripping device carrying the windshield and associated position sensors relatively towards the automobile, moving the sensors over a windshield opening in the automobile body shell and across edges of the shell defining such opening to provide signals indicating the position of such edges. Such measurements take place firstly on a gross scale and subsequently on a fine scale along at least four axes during the mounting process. The gross position of the windshield opening is first detected using the gross sensors. Starting from a reference point determined in the course of the gross measurement, a gripping device is then moved towards the upper edge of the windshield opening until a first of two fine sensors moves across such upper edge when the gripping device is pivoted around the detected point until the second fine sensor also moves across the upper edge.

  • Patent number: 4809430
Abstract: In the mounting of an electronic component, a holding member is rotated by a predetermined angle prior to actual holding of the electronic parts, thereby to detect a center of the holding member from at least two positions of the rotation angle, and the rotation center of the holding member is found by a calculation based on the detected center of the holding member. The position of the electronic parts against a circuit board then is corrected on the basis of a deviation between the position of the rotation center and the center of the holding member.

  • Patent number: 4754541
Abstract: An apparatus for joining and folding container sections to form a hinged container. Two container sections are transported in end-to-end relation on a conveyor and the downstream section is engaged with a stop while a pusher member is pivoted into engagement with the trailing edge of the upstream section to force the sections together and engage snap fitted hinge elements on the two sections. The hinged container is then discharged from the first conveyor onto a second conveyor located at a level beneath the first conveyor and operating at a slower speed than the first conveyor. As the leading section of the hinged container falls from the upper conveyor onto the lower conveyor the increased speed of the upper conveyor will fold the trailing section over the leading section to provide a closed hinged container. The closed container then passes under a spring loaded pressure member which ensures that locking elements on the two container sections are fully engaged.
