  • Patent number: 6568070
Abstract: A front side extractor is shown which removes single connector pins from connectors utilizing high pin densities. The tool includes a sleeve that is aligned with a pin to be extracted and advanced to surround the pin. A shaft with a terminal wedge surface is then advanced through the sleeve to wedge the pin against the inner surface of the sleeve and capture the pin, thereby allowing the pin to be extracted as it is retracted, in unison with the tool, away from the connector. To enhance the ability of the tool to capture the pin, the sleeve inner surface is roughened to increase the frictional force retaining the pin against the sleeve wall surface.

Abstract: A tool cartridge for seating and cutting a communication wire in a terminal block. The cartridge includes a tool end and a base end. A wire seating blade and a wire cutting blade extend outwardly from the cartridge and are mounted for longitudinal movement relative to the cartridge and to each other. A spring bias detent assembly forces the wire seating and wire cutting blades into contact with each other for longitudinal movement together relative to the cartridge. A compression spring resists longitudinal movement of the wire seating and wire cutting blades in the direction of the base of the cartridge by seating pressure applied to the cartridge. A cam is positioned to release the detent assembly thereby disengaging the wire seating and wire cutting blades from movement together after a predetermined compression of the compression spring. The release of the blades from movement together permitting the compression spring to drive the cutting blade to its cutting position to cut the wire.

The actuator (48) includes a pin (122) that is received by a slotted opening (118) in the sled (46). The pin (122) and the slotted opening (118) form a cooperative relationship such that rotational movement of the actuator (48) produces rectilinear movement of the sled (46) so that the shoulder (98) of the sled (46) imparts a pushing force on the edge (40) of the PGA chip (22).

Abstract: An adaptor tool for mounting components on printed circuit boards. The adaptor tool has two capture members that define an opening sized to receive the component. The capture members are linked together such that the application of torque to the adaptor tool by a torque tool via a connector results in the two capture members frictionally engaging the component and transferring the torque to the component. This allows the component to be mounted to the printed circuit board to a desired degree of torque. The adaptor tool can be sized so as to be able to mount a cylindrical heat sink to a bracket on a printed circuit board to a desired degree of torque.

Abstract: The present insulation displacement contact wire insertion tool that is used to enable a craftsperson to perform the various wire manipulation tasks required to insert and remove wires in insulation displacement contact connectors and terminal blocks. The wire insertion tool enables the craftsperson to place the wire in a stuffer blade that protrudes from the tip of the wire insertion tool while also threading the wire through a pair of wire cutting blades. The craftsperson can use the stuffer blade to press the wire into the insulation displacement contact and then operate the spring loaded cutting blades to cut the length of wire and receive an audible feedback that sufficient force has been applied to perform the operation. The single action of pressing the wire on to the insulation displacement contact both compresses the spring, installs the wire on the insulation displacement contact, and provides the audible feedback.
