  • Patent number: 4905360
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a vehicle seat, in which two different upper dies are provided above a base table and two different lower dies are movably provided on the base table. At the central part of the base table, there are a pressing means and a rotary means which cause the pressing of one of the two upper dies against one of the two lower dies. Using this apparatus, two different covering members and cushion members are bonded together in good sequence without need for replacement of the dies so as to produce a number of different seats or seat elements.

  • Patent number: 4858289
Abstract: Dimpling and riveting a workpiece wherein the workpiece is clamped, the dimpling, drilling and riveting occur sequentially while the workpiece is clamped, and the workpiece is heated prior to dimpling. During clamping a pressure foot force is applied to one side of the workpiece, and during dimpling a force is applied to the opposite side causing slight movement of the workpiece against the pressure foot force. The dimpled recess in the workpiece is about the shape of a truncated cone and a rivet-receiving hole is drilled through the workpiece in the recess. To provide a fluid-tight seal, the minor diameter of the truncated cone is made slightly greater than the diameter of the rivet-receiving hole thereby providing an annular step between the hole and the outwardly diverging wall of the dimpled recess. During upsetting of the rivet the workpiece material is compressed radially around the annular step to provide a fluid-tight seal between rivet and workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4850101
Abstract: A flexibly programmable belling and tension expanding device for plate fin heat exchanger coils is carried on a shuttle or carriage that moves between first and second work stations. An operator assembles a fin plate heat exchanger unit at a work table at one work station while the device automatically bells and expands the hairpin tubes of another unit at a second station. When assembly is complete, the operator signals a programmable controller, and the shuttle brings the device to the one coil after it completes the expanding of the other, and it commences an automatic expanding operation. Then the operator removes the expanded coil and assembles another coil at the second station while the device is belling and coiling at the one station.

Abstract: A working apparatus for applying a working to a work placed on a pallet conveyed by a conveyer by staking a part of the work or fitting an element to work. The apparatus includes a working head vertically moved between a raised working position where the working head applies the working upon the work from beneath and a lowered rest position. A lifting device disposed beside the working head in the lowered rest position moves the working head up and down. An operating device is also disposed beside the working head in the lowered rest position. The operating device is displaced sideways to be brought into cooperation with the working head in the working position and operates the working head to apply the working to the work.

  • Patent number: 4603454
Abstract: Apparatus for forming hinges from strip stock and for applying the hinges to cards and pockets. Hinge blanks including a pair of hinge legs are stamped from the strip stock and the barrel of the hinge partly formed at a first station. The blank then moves laterally to a second station where the legs are bent at a right angle to the hinge body and the barrel further shaped. Thereafter, the hinge continues in the same lateral path to a third station. Here, the formation of the barrel is completed; the hinge legs are driven through a pocket or card theretofore brought to the station; and the hinge legs are then bent over and against the pocket or card to secure the hinge to it.

  • Patent number: 4586234
Abstract: Air spring components and the completed air spring are carried by an air spring unloader, an end cap holder and a tubular member loader of a shuttle mechanism along a track member adjacent an air spring assembly apparatus. The shuttle mechanism is movable to three positions controlled by stop members so that the air spring can be transferred to the unloader, the end cap can be inserted in a recess of the assembly apparatus and the tubular member positioned for processing by the assembly apparatus. Simultaneously with some of these operations the air spring is transferred to a conveyor and the end cap is transferred from a loading support to the end cap holder. The loader and unloader each have a vertically movable cradle with an overarm clamp for supporting and releasing the tubular member and air spring. The end cap holder has a resiliently mounted chuck on a sliding support for transferring an end cap from a recess in the loading support and inserting the end cap in a recess of the assembly apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4586253
Abstract: A small, structurally simple and operationally reliable apparatus for conveying a plurality of juxtaposed elongated objects transversely to a prescribed position, and moving them longitudinally one by one includes at least two pairs of vertically disposed plate members, those pairs being so spaced apart from each other as to support both ends of the objects thereon. The plate members in each of those pairs being placed one upon the other, and alternately vertically movable for conveying the objects transversely. Each of the plate members has a corrugated upper edge defined by a plurality of alternately occurring crests and roots. The crests on the upper edge of one of the plate members in each pair are in staggered relation to those on the other plate member by a distance which is equal to a half of the pitch between the crests. The apparatus further includes a member provided between those pairs of plate members for receiving each of the elongated objects and moving it longitudinally.

  • Patent number: 4335479
Abstract: In the manufacture of a blind rivet, a threaded mandril is positioned endwise in a flanged, cylindrical, rivet body. The mandril-containing body is then advanced into a work station between a pair of spaced-apart, C-shaped die sections. The die sections are specially shaped so that when they are forcibly brought together with the rivet body between them, they first almost fully encircle and capture the body without physically appreciably deforming it. Then as the die sections bottom against one another, they coin the rivet body thereby staking the mandril in the body while simultaneously forming a pair of precisely sized, diametrically opposite ribs in the rivet body that extend part way along the length of the body intermediate its ends.

  • Patent number: 4049389
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assembling an aerosol valve which are intended to assemble a valve made up of a valve body, a spring, a stem, a sealing disk and valve cap. In assembling the valve, two vertically disposed sets formed in sequence are indicated by a first "sealing disk-valve cap" set and a second "valve body-spring-stem" set. The sets are disposed one above the other so that their original orientation is retained, and are brought together so as to place the components into a specified position relative to each other in the valve, then the sets are interlocked by deforming the valve cap. In the apparatus employing the method, namely in a mechanism for bringing the sets together, a tip adapted to grip, transfer and dispose the first set above the second one is provided. By virtue of such an arrangement, the assembling of valves involves a minimum of operations and a high-capacity apparatus has been developed.
