Means To Fasten By Deforming Patents (Class 29/816)
  • Patent number: 4160317
Abstract: A tool is disclosed for dispensing connectors from a multiple chamber magazine and for assembling the connectors onto multiple electrical wires. The tool includes a ram which is adjustable in size to accommodate different sized connectors. One handle of the tool incorporates a passageway having multiple walls which align and support each chamber of the magazine. A spring loaded ejector or thrust arm slideably straddles one magazine chamber and enters an open side of the chamber to urge the connectors therein toward a work station of the tool whereat the connectors are engaged by the ram for assembly onto the wires.

  • Patent number: 4077557
Abstract: A lightweight portable hand-held tool for use in producing printed circuit assemblies is provided with a squeezable handle piston grip surmounted by an incrementally detented ejection mechanism. The tool is topped by a rearwardly raked loading "snorkel" engaging and holding "dipstick" storage tubes for dual in line package or "DIP" integrated circuit assemblies, aligned end to end therein for lengthwise sliding, dispensing movement. A squeezable trigger-handgrip actuates a rack and pinion ejector ram-slider provided with a spring biased detent, producing forward feed movement of each DIP in turn from the snorkel magazine through an ejection portal, pausing with the DIP's terminals protruding for alignment with the mounting holes in the printed circuit board, followed by ejection of the DIP from the portable tool for insertion, produced by further squeezing movement of the trigger-handgrip.

  • Patent number: 4044450
Abstract: An apparatus and method for securing a tape loop hanger at the gathered end of a stuffed or unstuffed casing using a substantially U-shaped clip. Specifically the U-shaped clip forces a preformed tape loop hanger into contact with a gathered end portion of a casing whereupon the two opposed legs of the clip are deformed to encircle the gathered casing and the tape loop hanger with sufficient pressure so as to crimp and anchor the tape loop hanger between the legs of the clip so as to secure the tape loop hanger to the gathered end of the casing.

  • Patent number: 4040179
Abstract: A pistol-type tool for making electrical connections comprises a slide arranged to grip a box-type electrical connector containing slotted plate terminals. The connector is fed into the slide from a magazine with the lid of the connector fully open, the slide is advanced to the forward end of the tool where the connector is loaded with wires manually, a nose member is moved out of the tool body partially to close the lid and is then retracted back into the body, the slide is retracted to position the connector under an open jaw which closes fully to close the lid so as to force the wires into the slots of the terminals in the connector and the jaw is finally opened to allow the connector to be removed from the tool.

  • Patent number: 4033499
Abstract: A tool for driving staples or nails and simultaneously providing reinforcement therefore. The tool is particularly useful in installing roofing material, although it has equal utility in attaching labels, tags and the like to shipping cases, and siding to buildings, and other purposes. In a preferred embodiment, the tool is provided with a handle which is long enough that a workman may operate the tool without bending over any material amount. The staple or nail driving mechanism may be of the hand-driven type or may be air, electric or spring operated. Connected to the housing of the driving mechanism is a magazine containing a considerable number of fastener reinforcing elements, such as thin metal discs, through which the staple or nail is driven in the same stroke used to drive such fastener into the object to be fastened.

  • Patent number: 4030182
Abstract: A tag applicating device includes a pair of crimping pliers having a magazine for sequentially supplying the pliers with fasteners and a tag holding and dispensing magazine coupled to the pliers. The tag holding and dispensing magazine is oriented so as to utilize the fasteners themselves as a registering stop. Alternatively, an adjustable stop may be provided such that individual tags can be advanced and registered with respect to the crimping pliers for application of the tags to objects such as branches or the like with the fasteners passing through the tag as the fastener is clamped around the branch.
