Hub Shaping Patents (Class 29/894.362)
  • Patent number: 12055203
Abstract: A device for forming circumferential grooves in pipe elements uses multiple geared cam bodies mounted on a carriage which rotates about a fixed pinion. The gears engage with the pinion which causes the geared cam bodies to rotate relative to the carriage. Traction surfaces and cam surfaces on the cam bodies traverse the outer surface of the pipe element and impress a circumferential groove therein. Each cam surface has a region of increasing radius and may have a region of constant radius. Second cam surfaces, positioned in spaced relation axially to the first cam surfaces, may also extend around the cam bodies. The second cam surfaces have a constant radius and limit flare of the pipe element.

Abstract: When an inner ring of a driving-wheel supporting hub unit is fixed to a hub, a pressing die is displaced downward and an annular working surface at a lower end surface of the pressing die is pressed against a front end of a cylindrical portion over its whole periphery. Further, in this state, the pressing die is pressed downward toward the hub without rocking the pressing die relative to the hub. Thus, the cylindrical portion is plastically deformed radially outward along the working surface simultaneously over its whole periphery. By adopting this method, the operation of plastically deforming the cylindrical portion at the inner end of the hub to form a caulking portion, can be easily and performed accurately. Accordingly, the structure of the caulking portion forming apparatus can be simplified.

A rivet flange is formed from a cylindrical part of a wheel huh by a hobbing tool oriented along a direction of the axis of rotation of the wheel hub. The method keeps material stresses low and accurately adjusts the preload of the bearing. Abstract: A bearing apparatus includes a hollow shaft provided around an outer peripheral surface with a bearing fitting region, and a rolling bearing having an inner ring fitted around the bearing fitting region of the hollow shaft. A shaft end of the hollow shaft is bent outwardly in a diametrical direction, thereby being caulked on an outer end surface of the inner ring. The bearing fitting region has a hardened layer in a region from a first position corresponding to an inner end surface of the inner ring of the rolling bearing to a second position before a position corresponding to an outer end surface of the inner ring, and has a non-hardened layer in another region from the outer end surface corresponding position of the inner ring to the shaft end. The second position representative of a caulked side end portion of the hardened layer is defined based on a predetermined relational expression.

For runout of each of the mounting surface and back of the brake rotor itself, and runout of the side of the wheel mounting flange of the inner member to which is mounted the brake rotor, the maximum difference between the peaks of crests and troughs in each period of surface runout is restricted within a standard value, and the brake rotor is mounted to the wheel mounting flange, thereby eliminating the necessity of mounting of the brake rotor and adjustment of runout after mounting at the customer's factory to provide a reliable automotive wheel bearing assembly.

A desired pre-load is applied to rolling elements 5 in a state that an outer end face 28 of the inner ring 3 is butted against a step surface 12 formed on the hub 2b. The inner ring 3 is fit to the hub 2b by interference fitting causing a static friction force, which is larger than a thrust load acting on the inner ring 3 based on the pre-loading. Therefore, the inner end face of the inner ring 3 is clamped with a caulking portion, which is formed by expanding outward in the diameter directions a cylindrical portion 18 formed in the inner end of the hub 2b.

  • Patent number: 6829825
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a corner assembly for a vehicle. A wheel hub is partially machined to define a journal section and a radial mounting flange on an out-board surface of the hub. Bolts are pressed into axial openings in the mounting flange and the hub further machining to produce a concentric wheel pilot, rotor pilot and bearing journal surfaces that are perpendicular to radial faces on an out-board surface of the mounting flange. The hub is pressed into a bearing retained of a support member and a rotor is placed on the rotor pilot surface such that the bolts extend through openings located on the inner peripheral surface of the rotor. The hub is rotated to gage lateral deflection with respect to its axis. If the deflection is less than 0.06 mm, the wheel hub and rotor are accepted for installation on a vehicle and rejected if greater that 0.06 mm.
