  • Patent number: 9925069
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure involve systems, methods, computer program products, and the like, for utilizing a series of images of a patient's anatomy to determine a cut plane for use during a hip replacement procedure. To determine a cut plane for use during the procedure, the computer program determines a best fit line through the center of the neck of the femur, as well as a best fit line through the femoral shaft. In one particular embodiment, a cut plane through the femur may then be determined as perpendicular to the center line through the neck of the femur. Further, the location of these features in the images may be determined by analyzing the gray scale value of one or more pixels around a selected point on the image. The pixel with the lowest gray scale value may then be assumed to be the edge of the cortical bone in the 2D image.

Abstract: A measurement apparatus includes a body suit for a body that includes an appendage having a pivotable joint, the body suit comprising a sleeve to cover the appendage, wherein a first portion of the sleeve is configured to cover the pivotable joint. One or more multi-core optical fiber sensors is/are within or on the sleeve in a routing pattern that is substantially aligned with a longitudinal axis of the sleeve except within the first portion and that is at least partially transverse to the longitudinal axis within the first portion. An optical shape sensing system coupled to the one or more multi-core optical fiber sensors sends light into the one or more multi-core optical fiber sensors and determines a position of each of the multiple appendages based on reflected optical signal measurements detected from one or more multi-core optical fiber sensors.

Abstract: Method of designing a security thread in security documents with better color contrast at any viewing angle is claimed. The invention discloses designing of security thread in security documents like bank notes using subwavelength gratings with period and thickness less than the wavelength of light. The sub wavelength gratings preferably asymmetric are designed such that the Oth order reflections are of longer wavelength (red) and the higher order reflections (diffracted orders) are of shorter wavelengths (blue/green). The security thread so designed gives better color contrast unlike the rainbow colors of prior art thus allowing better and easier distinction of authentic documents.
