    Abstract: A device for managing a retractable sheet that is wound on a roller by the action of a spring that may be extended by pulling on the exposed edge of the sheet wherein the device is used for printing messages thereon or for obscuring the view of nearby items. A brake on the device prevents the spring from unwinding when the roller is removed. A damping mechanism limits the retraction speed of the sheet, which the damping mechanism being disengaged when the sheet is being pulled out. A cover is provided to obscure the main part of the unit and to prevent tampering. A unique slot configuration allows for easy, tamper-resistant installation of a header card. A pull tab is made of inexpensive components and is designed to allow for easy placement of a graphic label.

    Abstract: A method of resurfacing a traction roll to provide a friction surface to replace a worn surface. A supply reel of metal strip material is continuously unwound from a supply reel and rewound on a take-up reel. The strip is wound helically onto the traction roll and secured thereto by doublesided adhesive tape disposed between and attached to the roll surface and the metal strip. In a modification, the strip is fed through the treating location in contact with an arcuate surface of a mandrel to impart curvature to the strip.

Next a fabric strip is spirally wrapped over the epoxy adhesive to bond the fabric strip to the tubular form. To make the exterior surface of the tubular form still more receptive to adhesion, the exterior surface may be preheated immediately prior to treating the exterior surface with high voltage sparks.
