    Abstract: A bearing for retro-fit or repair of an engine provides high reliability through a sleeved bearing design having externally-supplied lubrication. The bearing assembly may be supplied as a kit including a lubrication delivery tube and an oil filter adapter having a port for supplying the external lubrication to a mounting flange of the bearing. In order to install the bearing a captive sleeve is inserted in a hollow end of the shaft being supported. A cap having a threaded stud is inserted with the sleeve into the hollow end of the shaft and secured by the required snap ring. Then a nut is used to secure the cap and the sleeve to a stud affixed to the mounting flange that secures the bearing assembly to the engine.

    Abstract: A method for servicing a coupling connecting two non-collinear shafts, which coupling includes a pair of sleeves each having a yoke provided at an end portion thereof, a knuckle provided between each yoke that includes a body having a plurality of openings, a plurality of bushings each positioned in one of the openings, and a plurality of separate pins threadingly engaged to the yokes for releasably connecting the yokes to the knuckle. The method includes loosening a pair of opposed pins on one of the yokes such that an end portion of each pin is spaced from the corresponding bushing, which disengages that yoke from the knuckle, separating the disengaged yoke from the coupling, removing a worn bushing, inserting a different bushing in the opening, positioning the yoke to reengage the knuckle and tightening the pins on the yoke until the end portion of each pin engages the corresponding bushing.

An inner surface of the bearing bore is machined to remove any damage. The bearing is press fit into the sizing sleeve and the sizing sleeve is press fit into the bearing bore.     Abstract: Failures of existing bearing spring plates for a certain class of steam turbines typically occur at welds between a flexible support plate and a pedestal base plate. Most often, this leaves a part of the broken spring plate protruding from the base plate. A replacement bearing spring plate pedestal has a flexible plate integral with top and bottom mounting blocks meeting the flexible spring plate at large radii, polished and substantially free from stress risers. The bottom block has a channel machined into it of a width and height to admit and straddle the protruding part. A drill fixture permits drilling and tapping holes in the pedestal base plate to install the replacement spring plate pedestal at the proper location.

    Abstract: A method for converting a locomotive traction motor originally equipped with sleeve bearings to roller bearings is provided. The ensuing method includes removing all parts of the original motor leaving only the motor frame. Recesses are then machined in the motor frame at both the pinion end and commutator end. The recesses are sized accordingly, to receive the roller bearings, which have a larger diameter then the sleeve bearings. Upper and lower frame inserts, each having an additional mounting opening, are then mounted to the machined frame to increase the strength and stiffness around the machined regions. A replacement axle is then equipped with the roller bearings, a pair of labyrinth seals, a gear and a pair of wheels. A pair of bearing housings may then be placed over the roller bearings. Each bearing housings has a reservoir that when the traction motor is assembled, is in communication with the roller bearings.

    Abstract: A process for repairing a defective opening in an automotive transmission housing includes the steps of (a) providing a drilling jig sized to fit closely within the servo bore chamber, the drilling jig having an alignment aperture concentric with the opening when fitted within the chamber, (b) inserting into the opening a bushing which closely fits within the opening, the bushing having a central reamer guide bore with a diameter larger than the original bore diameter, (c) inserting and rotating a reamer in the reamer guide bore thereby enlarging the diameter of the opening, (d) providing and inserting a repair bushing into the enlarged opening, the repair bushing having a central opening with a diameter equal to the original diameter and having an external diameter equal to the diameter of the enlarged reamed opening. An adhesive may be used to fix the repar bushing in the opening.
