  • Publication number: 20090304315
Abstract: At least one embodiment of the invention generally relates to a bushing kit (102) and method of installing the same with a mandrel (300) having a tapered region (304). The bushing kit comprises an inner member (110) and an outer bushing (108). The inner member may include an inner surface (126) having an engagement portion, such as a coating, plating, and/or lining, such as a self-lubricating coating. The method of installing the bushing kit (102) includes passing the tapered portion of the mandrel through the outer bushing (108) to radially expand the outer bushing into the structural workpiece (104) and possibly induce some amount of residual compressive stress in the structural workpiece (104). Contemporaneously, the inner member (110) is passed into the radially-expanded outer bushing (108) before the outer bushing is permitted to radially inwardly rebound or spring back. The outer bushing (108) is then permitted to radially contract onto the inner member to form an interference fit therewith.

  • Patent number: 7610682
Abstract: A caster and leg assembly for supporting a piece of furniture on a floor. The assembly includes a caster affixed within a recessed area formed in the bottom of a wooden or plastic furniture leg to create a strong support for the furniture as well as create a good appearance. The caster has at least one spherical roller supported within the housing to allow the furniture to be readily movable omnidirectionally. With one spherical roller, the weight of the furniture acts at the center of the spherical roller. In one embodiment, there are three spherical rollers located equidistant from the vertical center line of the assembly to support the furniture weight equally by the spherical rollers. A glide can be readily attached and detached from the bottom of the caster and, when attached, the glide cup covers the spherical rollers and presents a flat, planar bottom surface.

  • Patent number: 7448134
Abstract: Pressed shape steel, made of a low cost general steel material that is not hardened, forms a frame with long grooves cut therein. Guide rails, made of a specialized steel material that can be subjected to a hardening treatment, are hardened. Thereafter, outer surfaces of the hardened guide rails are ground and the guide rails are integrally joined in the long grooves. Ball-rolling grooves are formed in the guide rails, thereby completing a guide-equipped frame for an actuator. Because the general steel material and the specialized steel material are principally ferrous materials, both exhibiting a Young's modulus at or above 170 GPa with substantially the same coefficient of linear thermal expansion, the frame needn't be increased in size or have a complex internal structure to reinforce the strength of the frame, and the guide rails remain securely retained in the grooves even if the actuator experiences changes in temperature.

Abstract: The invention concerns a clutch release bearing comprising an axially mobile piston (14), and a ring (26I), integral with a raceway (C1), hooked on the piston (14) with axial-effect squeezing elastic means (38, 40). The ring (26I) is provided with a proximal surface (F1, 62) and a distal surface (F2, 70) arranged axially behind the proximal surface (F1, 62). The proximal surface (F1, 62) is supported on a first hooking surface (A1, 64) provided in the piston (14). The squeezing means (38, 40) are supported on the distal surface (F2, 70) of the ring (26I) and a second hooking surface (A2, 76) provided in the piston (14). The first (A1, 64) and second (A2, 76) hooking surfaces provided in the piston (14) are arranged axially in front of the distal surface (F2, 70) of the ring (26I) The invention also concerns a method for assembling the elements of said clutch release bearing.

  • Patent number: 7103974
Abstract: A process for mounting an outer bearing ring involves press fitting a stamp into the outer ring so that the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring assumes the shape of the stamp. Using the stamp, the outer ring is then press fitted into the recess of a machine part so that the contour of the external peripheral surface of the outer ring is plastically molded through axial stretching into the machine part. To mount an inner ring, a stamp with a bore is press fitted onto the inner ring so that the inner peripheral surface of the inner ring pressing against the stamp assumes the shape of the bore of the stamp. Using the stamp, the inner ring is then press fitted onto the machine part and the contour of the inner peripheral surface of the inner ring is plastically molded through axial flow forming into the machine part.

  • Patent number: 7103975
Abstract: An intermediate bearing for a driveline of a commercial vehicle has a housing (7) with a stirrup-shaped cross-section. The housing (7) has a fixing face (12) formed of two straight portions (8, 9) and a first arched portion (10). A bearing member (15) is arranged between the portions (8, 9, 10). The bearing member (15) is rubber and is connected to the fixing face (12) by vulcanization. A locking element (23) bridges the space between the two straight portions (8, 9). The locking member (23) is attached to the bearing member (15). The bearing member (15) encloses a supporting ring (16) which serves to receive a rolling contact bearing. The locking element (23) is adjustable for the purpose of setting a pre-tension of the bearing member (15) towards the longitudinal axis (18) of the bore (17) of the supporting ring (16). The locking element (23) can be connected to the housing (7) after the required pre-tension has been set.

  • Patent number: 7083385
Abstract: An axial flow fan motor having an impeller molded integrally with a shaft from a synthetic resin. The shaft is easily assembled with a bearing arrangement by being brought into tight contact with the inner ring of the bearing arrangement and is reliably fixed thereto in the elastic region of the shaft. A through hole is formed in the shaft along its central axis. After the shaft is fit into the inner ring of the bearing arrangement, a metal pin is pressed into the axial through hole. Because the pin is pressed in, the shaft is elastically expanded and brought into tight contact with the inner ring and fixed thereto in the elastic region of the shaft. Furthermore, the distal end portion of the shaft elastically outwardly expands and is pressed against the end surface of the inner ring, thereby preventing the bearing arrangement from coming off the shaft.

Abstract: A rotor shaft is supported in a housing of a rotor assembly for a laser level. Bearings support the rotor shaft for rotation relative to the housing. An adhesive fixes an outer race of at least one of the bearings in position between the rotor shaft and the housing. The adhesive is a low viscosity, quick setting anaerobic adhesive, which when cured prevents angular drift of the shaft relative to the housing by eliminating the clearance that would have existed between the outer race and the housing.

  • Patent number: 7007386
Abstract: A method for mounting a light duty bearing having a groove defined in an outer arcuate surface thereof for receiving a metallic tolerance ring placed therein which includes protruding waves extending radially outwardly from the groove while the main band of the bearing is positioned preferably completely within the groove such that the bearing can be placed into a workpiece aperture to be movably mounted therein in a frictionally resisted manner such as required in light-duty applications where slight restricted movement between the bearing and the mounting aperture of the workpiece is desirable. The bearing assembly can be mounted in the workpiece aperture by exerting axial force against the inner race member or the outer race member to achieve the frictionally resisted mounting therebetween. The groove defined in the outer portion of the bearing is designed to receive and retain the tolerance ring therein during mounting in the workpiece aperture for greatly facilitating mounting.

A shaft end of the hollow shaft is bent outwardly in a diametrical direction, thereby being caulked on an outer end surface of the inner ring. The bearing fitting region has a hardened layer in a region from a first position corresponding to an inner end surface of the inner ring of the rolling bearing to a second position before a position corresponding to an outer end surface of the inner ring, and has a non-hardened layer in another region from the outer end surface corresponding position of the inner ring to the shaft end. The second position representative of a caulked side end portion of the hardened layer is defined based on a predetermined relational expression.
