  • Patent number: 7275319
Abstract: A rolling element bearing comprises an inner ring and an outer ring which are each provided with a raceway, and a series of rolling elements which are in contact with the raceways of each ring. A lubricant film is provided in the contacts between the rolling elements and the raceways, which film forms a lubricant meniscus at the inlet side of each contact. In the bearing starved lubrication conditions prevail. The surface of each rolling element has minute recesses filled with a lubricant quantity, said recesses being flattened in the contact area defined by the contact between the rolling elements and the rings and thereby releasing lubricant at the inlet side of each contact resulting in a displacement of the meniscus further away from said contact. This meniscus displacement results in an increased lubricant film thickness in each contact area, thus improving the lubricating conditions in the bearing.

  • Patent number: 7246440
Abstract: A spindle motor is formed so as to support a pivot of a rotor by a pair of open bearings. The open bearings thus constructed will be less expensive and simple structures, so that a manufacturing cost thereof is reduced compared to a conventional spindle motor using a pair of ball bearings with shields. Accordingly, a low-cost spindle motor can be provided.

  • Patent number: 7155825
Abstract: A method for withdrawing liquid from the liquid bearings of a spindle (1) carried in liquid bearings (3, 5) distinguished in that with the help of pressurized gas, the liquid, together with the gas, is forced to exit the spindle during the operation of the spindle via at least one first channel (12), and that when the spindle is shut down, is forced to exit via at least one second channel (13) with a smaller flow-through cross-section than the first channel.

  • Patent number: 6915574
Abstract: A multi-layer seal and washer that provide a seal between a vane stem and a casing in a turbine engine are disclosed. The seal and washer are fabricated from materials such as Teflon fibers and glass fibers and are impregnated with a polyimide resin. The seal and washer are durable and have a low coefficient of friction.

  • Patent number: 6694617
Abstract: A method of assembling a motor comprising assembling the shaft and thrust plate to be used in the fluid dynamic bearing assembly, and at least partially inserting the combined shaft and thrust plate into a sleeve which is adapted to support a hub which in turn may support one or more disks for rotation in a disc drive or similar environment. A counterplate cup of a generally U shaped or cup shaped design including a base which is substantially parallel to a top surface of the thrust plate, and sides of a diameter which is slightly greater than the diameter of the thrust plate and which are parallel to the thrust plate is provided, filled with oil, and having its open end facing the thrust plate.

  • Patent number: 6681490
Abstract: A method and apparatus for packing wheel bearings with grease. A frame is provided for supporting an axle assembly comprising an axle shaft with a wheel mounted on a wheel bearing at each end. A horizontally mounted ram and cylinder is mounted adjacent each wheel. Each ram has a greasing head at its distal end and each head has a nose portion adapted to pivot relative to a body portion. Each nose portion has an open-mouthed greasing chamber. Each ram is advanced toward each wheel so that each open-mouthed greasing chamber is in communication with a wheel bearing. Pressurized grease is delivered to a greasing chamber and, therefor, to a bearing.

  • Patent number: 6532665
Abstract: An assembly technique and device for enclosing an open end of a movable socket (10) comprised of fully hardened materials with an expanding cover-plate (66) and for controlling the expansion of the cover-plate (66) to provide a central orifice (67) of predetermined dimensions to facilitate the installation of a grease fitting. During assembly, various internal components of the movable socket, including the pressure plate, are installed within a housing (12) through a posterior opening (16) with the cover-plate positioned over the components. A two-stage ram (100) having a contact surface and a concentric pivot punch (142, 158) is brought into engagement with the cover-plate. Pressure exerted by the two-stage ram is transferred to the cover-plate through the contact surface, expanding the cover-plate to conform to the contact surface and enclosing the internal components within the socket housing.

  • Patent number: 6393818
Abstract: A rolled product for a chain and a method for producing the rolled product are disclosed. Plural dimples are formed in a zigzag pattern in at least one of inner and outer peripheral surfaces of the rolled product, the dimples absorbing plastic deformation of a rolled workpiece when the rolled product is forced through a circular orifice of a die, and plural recessed portions are defined by the dimples on any imaginary straight line on the dimpled surface in the axial direction of the rolled product. The absorption of plastic flow by the dimples prevents a waving phenomenon from occurring at the end faces of the rolled product. When the rolled product is used as a chain component such as bushing or roller, it is possible to prevent leakage of a lubricant in the axial direction of the rolled product, and hence possible to improve the lubricant retaining performance in a rotating and sliding portion.
