  • Patent number: 6009932
Abstract: A push to exit, pull to enter latch assembly is disclosed, particularly suitable as a screen door latch for a recreational vehicle door assembly having a main closure door and a screen door. The latch assembly comprises a latch housing, a latch bolt linearly slidable from a latching position to an unlatching position, a push-to-release lever mounted on one side of the latch housing and a pull-to-release lever mounted on an opposite side of the latch housing. In certain preferred embodiments each release lever has a handle and a latch bolt engagement flange. Rotation of either release lever from its normal position to its releasing position forces the corresponding latch bolt engagement flange against the latch bolt, urging the latch bolt from the latching position to the unlatching position. The latch assembly may cooperate with a screen to close an opening in a pivotable screen door.

Abstract: This exit device has a press bar and an elongated deadbolt adapted to be mounted horizontally adjacent the free end of the door and a pivoted retractor blade inward of the door. The blade is pivoted by the press bar and engages with its nose a projecting surface on the deadbolt and retracts the deadbolt. The blade also has a keeper contact surface which, as the door closes, is contacted by the keeper and the blade is pivoted inward to retract the deadbolt. The retractor blade also serves as an anti-friction bearing having a peripheral portion which rolls against the deadbolt and counters against the inward force on the deadbolt opposing to the opening force on the door.

  • Patent number: 5310228
Abstract: A latch bolt actuating mechanism for a door having a latch bolt mounted on its inner surface adjacent a top edge thereof in position to engage and cooperate with a fixed keeper above the door includes an elongated strap having its top end connected to the latch bolt for vertical movement therewith and its bottom end connected to an actuator pivotally mounted in a rigid housing on the door surface by a removable shaft extending through the housing. The actuator is biased to the closed or latched position and a lever or strike plate extends from the housing in position to be pivoted about the shaft toward and away from the door inner surface with the lever being operable upon movement toward the inner surface to move said strap and the latch bolt connected thereto downwardly to release the latch bolt from the keeper. The rigid housing provides a stop for engaging said lever to limit the pivotal movement of said actuator and the downward movement of the strap.

  • Patent number: 5149151
Abstract: An adjustable latch assembly used in a lever lock comprises a shell, a shelf, a rotator, an actuating arm, a positioning and pulling assembly, and a bolt. The shell is attachable to a door. The shelf has a first position and a second position within the shell. The rotator is mountable on the shelf. • Patent number: 5076620
Abstract: A flush bolt including override protection is disclosed for flush mounting on the inactive one of a pair of swinging doors. In one embodiment of the invention, an automatic flush bolt comprising a trigger member senses whether the active door is closed. If closed, the flush bolt assumes an engaged position securing a bolt into a securing surface. If open, the flush bolt assumes its disengaged position with the bolt retracted into the mechanism. In a second embodiment of the invention, a semi-automatic flush bolt is provided with a slotted member and a spring to bias the bolt toward the engaged position. When the door containing the mechanism is closed, the bolt may temporarily and automatically override the securing surface and engage the securing surface without damage to the mechanism, the door, or the door frame. Opening the door requires manual intervention through activation of a control member.

  • Patent number: 5020343
Abstract: A lockset for a door comprising a latchbolt assembly movable between a partially extended latching position, a fully extended deadbolt position and a retracted position. A spindle extends through the latchbolt assembly in a direction transverse of the direction of movement of the bolt. The spindle is connected to the bolt for moving the bolt between its positions upon rotation of the spindle. An operating assembly includes a hand operator having a locking member therein, a first plate mounted for linear movement in a direction transverse to the axis of the spindle and having a pair of ears vertically spaced about and generally aligned with the longitudinal axis of the spindle. A pivotally mounted actuator member is movable in response to the hand operator and has first and second surfaces vertically spaced about and generally aligned with the longitudinal axis of the spindle and in engagement with the pair of ears such that pivotal movement of the actuator produces linear movement of the first plate.
