  • Patent number: 11220839
Abstract: A latch assembly is provided where the latch is moveable to open and close a door by operation of a dead lock assembly that blocks or unblocks movement of a bolt. In a blocked state, a blocking cartridge of the dead lock assembly is prevented from inward movement, blocking inward movement of the bolt. Turning a door knob or door handle causes a spindle extending through the dead lock assembly to move locking bars of the dead locking assembly, the locking bars moving further apart to permit the blocking cartridge to slide there between and move inwardly into the latch housing. The bolt can now move inward by force of the door jamb upon the bolt in order to clear the door jamb when opening and closing the door.

Abstract: The present disclosure envisions an externally controllable adjustment assembly which is carried on the bolt of a latch assembly. The externally controllable adjustment assembly is generally flush-mounted relative to the exterior surfaces of a corresponding panel and structure. A small access opening is provided to access the adjustment assembly so as to help maintain the aerodynamic design of the latch. The externally controllable adjustment assembly includes an adjuster which works with an adjuster body. An external force is applied by the adjuster to one end of the adjuster body to transfer forces to a plunger positioned at the opposite end of the adjuster body. Adjustment of the plunger helps to adjust the latching force of the latch on the structure. The present disclosure allows for controllable external adjustment as well as controllable preloading of the forces on the latch.

Abstract: A closure, for connecting two thin walls, such as a sheet metal cabinet door to a sheet metal cabinet frame is disclosed, which comprises a bearing piece, arranged in or on an opening in the first thin wall and a shaft, retained in the bearing piece and which may be rotated and axially displaced therein. A pivoting lever is mounted on the on outer end of the shaft and, on the other inner end of the shaft, a retaining piece is arranged, which may be engaged with an opening in the second thin wall. The retaining piece comprises a cupular guide piece and a sleeve piece, which may be inserted in and rotated in the cupular guide piece against the force of a spring. A catch projects from said sleeve piece in the direction of the wall plane which, in the locked position, extends beyond the outer surface of the guide piece as far as the rear surface of the second thin wall and rests thereon.

Abstract: A key operated latch includes a housing which supports a lock plug, a motion control sleeve, and a sleeve-like cam therein. The cam rotates with the lock plug, while the motion control sleeve is stationary. The cam has at least one cam slot, and the motion control sleeve has at least one motion control slot. A shaft extends outward from the housing and has at least one projection which is engaged with both the cam slot and the motion control slot. The cam slot and the motion control slot are configured such that rotation of the lock plug imparts a sequence of rotational and axial movements to the shaft. A latching member attached to the shaft, moves between a latched position and an unlatched position in a sequence of axial and rotational motions in order to selectively secure a door, panel, or the like in the closed position.

Abstract: A door latching or locking mechanism or module for a self-cleaning oven includes latching linkage of the door latch module that enables use of lighter duty, less expensive motor. The mechanical advantage and vector optimization of the latching linkage avoids stalling especially from a locked position. The latching mechanism includes a plurality of switches having a corresponding plurality of terminals. The terminals are grouped or ganged to allow connection with a single connector interface. The switches are selectively actuable/de-actuable by a cam and cam plate that utilizes linear motion translated from rotational motion of a driven (motor) to selectively actuate and/or de-actuate the switches.
