Disconnectable Handle Patents (Class 292/DIG27)
  • Patent number: 4564230
Abstract: Door-swing restraint apparatus for a pair of latched doors closing an end opening of a cargo box comprises a chain or cable link connected between margins of the doors so that a person actuating a bar to release door latches will not be injured by freight items which bear against the door. One end of the link is fixed in the marginal edge of one door, the other end being fixed to a lever arm which can be selectably engaged with or disengaged from a lateral bracket on the latch bar of the other door, only when the arm is rotated out of its horizontal transport position into the vertical. Rotation of the bar due to torque exerted by a freight item pressing against the door is limited by a stop pin carried by the bar engaged in a slot in a door-mounted journal. The opening swing of the door is limited to a few centimeters as the link becomes taut and the lever arm remains horizontal, visually signalling the hazard.

  • Patent number: 4492395
Abstract: A latch member or rotor is rotatably mounted in a main body or frame, attached to a vehicle door, for engaging a striker affixed to the vehicle body. Also mounted in the main body, in coplanar relation to the latch member, is a ratchet engageable with the latter to inhibit its motion in a direction to disengage the striker. The main body has an upstanding bracket on which three levers are mounted for pivotal motion about a common axis, in planes perpendicular to the plane of the latch member and the ratchet. The three levers are: (1) an actuating lever acting directly on the ratchet to cause the same to disengage the latch member and hence to unlatch the door; (2) an outside release lever linked to an outside door handle; and (3) an inside release lever linked to an inside door handle. These levers are interrelated in such a manner that the latch member releases the striker upon actuation of either the outside or the inside door handle.

  • Patent number: 4480451
Abstract: A door lock unlockable from the indoor side comprises a handle device and a lock device. The handle device includes an indoor handle and an outdoor handle for operating a latch means for a door panel to a stationary frame. The lock device is operated from the outdoor side so as to be brought into and out of engagement with said indoor handle thereby to lock said indoor handle and said outdoor handle against rotation. The indoor handle is pivotally supported so as to be able to be swung towards and away from said door panel and adapted to be disengaged from said lock device by a predetermined swinging toward or away from said door panel, the engaging structure between said indoor handle and said lock device being exposed on the inner surface of said door panel. The door lock permits an easy recognition and understanding of the way to manipulate the indoor unlocking mechanism, as well as a simple and easy manipulation, thereby to ensure a prompt escape from the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4448450
Abstract: A lever-type handle for operating a racking mechanism and providing an interlock for a cabinet enclosing electrical equipment. The handle is comprised of two sections which are linked together by a throughbolt. • Patent number: 4427223
Abstract: The device comprises a latching assembly enclosed within, and translatable relative to, a centercase housing; the housing is mounted on a chassis. The device is adapted for cooperative engagement with a locking cylinder, for actuating the latching assembly, and for operation of a thumbpiece lift, by an ancillary, external, trim linkage, for translating the latching assembly. The latching device has a master, locking cylinder cam or dowel, the latter having a removable screw, which (through a locking cylinder) either operates a night-latch cam plate, to translate the latching assembly or, upon removal of the screw, allows the cam or dowel to translate a tumbler which, in turn, frees a thumbpiece lift, for operation (then) of the latching assembly by the lift, instead of by the cam plate. Accordingly, with the drive screw in place, the external, operating trim linkage can not operate the device; it must be unlatched, externally, by a key in the locking cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4390195
Abstract: Locking mechanism having a casing including a pair of spaced support plates of similar size and shape. The support plates have identical, spaced, congruent, T-shaped tongues along their front edges. When installed in a door, the tongues extend beyond the edge to engage a strike in the door frame. A pair of bolt members are pivoted in the space between the support plates and are movable between an extended, closed position engaging the strike to a retracted, open position not engaging the strike. A slide rod engages the bolt members and is rotatably and reciprocally journaled between the plates. The slide rod has a transverse arm portion adapted to be connected to one or more manual locking elements in the vehicle door to turn the rod between locked and unlocked mode positions. A slide actuator lever is pivoted to the casing and is engageable with the slide rod arm portion to turn it between locked and unlocked mode positions.

  • Patent number: 4384465
Abstract: The invention relates to a lock mechanism for doors, preferably for use with dwellings, apartments or offices, the locking mechanism providing in particular a measure of safety against unauthorized opening of the lock. The lock mechanism is of a type which at will may be alternatively actuated from the inside either by a key or a thumb turn. When the resident of the house leaves he may in a simple manner suspend the function of the thumb turn. The lock is on its inside equipped both with a key hole hand and a thumb turn. The thumb turn may be engaged or disengaged with a dead bolt by means of a screw means. The screw means is actuated from the front of the lock, actuating an arm which actuates a transmission element bringing the transmission means of the thumb turn into, respectively out of engagement with the transmission means on the follower so that the lock at the operators will either will be actuated by a key or a thumb turn.

  • Patent number: 4335595
Abstract: A door lock has a flush-mountable body. A forwardly facing recess is defined by the body. A paddle-type handle is pivotally carried by the body and is movable between a nested position within the body recess and an operating position. A spring-projected slide bolt is carried on the back of the body and is movable between projected and retracted positions. A key-controlled disconnect linkage is provided for selectively connecting and disconnecting the handle and the bolt. The disconnect linkage includes a disconnect member which extends longitudinally along one side of the bolt and which has an end region that is shifted from side to side between connecting and disconnecting positions by a key-operated locking member. When the disconnect linkage drivingly connects the handle and the bolt, movement of the handle from its nested position to an operating position will cause corresponding retracting movement of the bolt.

  • Patent number: 4333324
Abstract: One part of a key-in-knob lock set functions in a normal manner such that when the lock set is unlocked, either the outside or inside knob can be manipulated to open the door by withdrawing the latch bolt from a normal spring latch extended position. When, instead, the lock set is locked, the latch bolt is extended an exceptionally long distance into the frame to a dead bolt position. Extension and retraction of the latch bolt to and from dead bolt position is accomplished by manipulation of a main cam through the agency of a key in the outside or a turn button on the inside. For withdrawing the latch bolt from the normal spring latch extended position, an escutcheon housing for the outside knob or a corresponding escutcheon housing for the inside knob serves, by moving transversely of the axis of rotation of the knob, to rotate a radially extending tooth-like element on the spindle which, acting through the main cam, withdraws the latch bolt.

Abstract: A deadbolt lock mechanism of the single cylinder type is disclosed having a latch bolt which is movable between extended and retracted positions by means of a lock cylinder at one side thereof.
