Plastic Latch Parts Patents (Class 292/DIG38)
  • Patent number: 5029917
Abstract: The die cast metallic door handle adapted for attachment on the vehicle door has a molded plastic insert attached thereto on the face thereof facing toward the vehicle so that a user gripping the door handle places his fingers against the molded plastic insert to insulate his fingers from the temperature of the metallic handle. In addition, a molded plastic push button assembly including a molded plastic housing and a molded plastic push button are attached to the metallic handle so that the user's thumb pushes against the molded plastic push button instead of a metallic handle. In addition, the push button assembly has the molded plastic push button slidably guided on a pin which is encircled by a spring acting to position the push button. The push button assembly may be preassembled prior to its attachment to the handle so that push button assembly may be pretested prior to attachment to the handle.

  • Patent number: 5013073
Abstract: A window latch mechanism having first and second closure members for attachment to respective first and second double-hung windows. Hingeably attached to the first closure member is a tongue having a distal tooth. When the closure members are in an open configuration thereof, the tongue may be selectively rotated about a hinge to an easy open position or to a vertical ready-to-latch position. The first closure member also includes a vertically extending biasing wall adjacent to a base of the tongue. The second closure member includes a bar positioned to be overlapped by the tooth when in a closed and locked position thereof. The mechanism also includes at least one restraining boss positioned opposite the bar relative to the tongue for selectively allowing the tongue to be biased away from the bar and interferringly held by the boss away from the bar in a closed but unlatched position to allow the windows to be opened.

  • Patent number: 5011204
Abstract: A resilient door knob utilizes both a spring-loaded internal housing and a resilient foam knob so that the doorknob absorbs shock when the door is swung against a wall, or someone strikes the doorknob. Another important feature is that the knob comes in sets of knobs of different colors or configurations such that one knob can be pulled off (or slit of if necessary) of the shaft housing and replaced with another one of a different color in the event, for example, the room is re-painted.

  • Patent number: 5005880
Abstract: A receptacle is provided which snaps into and seals an opening in a circuit breaker case. A pair of opposed, resilient tabs hold the receptacle within the opening, and substantially prevent withdrawal of the receptacle from the opening. A pair of resilient legs form a flexible U-shaped notch which is adapted to receive and hold a male member attached to a circuit breaker access cover. Therefore screws are not needed for securing the circuit breaker access cover to the circuit breaker case, and the cover is easily removed and replaced any number of times without the use of special tools.

  • Patent number: 4964661
Abstract: A pocket-type computer encompassed by a two-part casing has the entire latch mechanism contained in sidewalls of upper and lower hinged casings. The sidewalls have a thickness of only about two millimeters. A latch plate is integrally molded in a sidewall interior recess or formed as a molded part and fixedly adhered in the recess. One end of an elongated latch is fixed in an interior recess in the upper casing sidewall and depends therefrom so that a centilevered end having locking tooth slides on an inclined surface on the latch plate as the casings are closed until the latch tooth springs into a recess and keeper in the latch plate. An integral push button extends outwardly from the latch at a medial position into a matching aperture in the upper casing sidewall. The push button is accessed from the casing exterior and when pushed inwardly, the latch is pivoted inwardly releasing the latch tooth from the latch keeper to allow opening of the two casings.

Abstract: A latch having a base and a latch plate pivoted thereto, the base being adapted for installation on a closure frame and the latch plate being adapted to overlie the closure. The latch plate is pivotally mounted on the base to swing between an unlatched position in which the closure can be opened, and a latched position in which the closure cannot be opened because the latch plate overlies it. A handle pivotally mounted on the base swings the latch plate between the open and closed positions. At least one of the base and latch plate are made of an elastically deformable material. The latch plate is moved to the latching position by the camming action of the handle; and when the latch plate has moved only part way toward the fully latched position, abutment surfaces on the base and latch plate come into contact with each other.

  • Patent number: 4818000
Abstract: A decorative surface-mounted latch bolt assembly includes a decorative housing, a chassis providing an elongated passage therewithin, and a guide member disposed within the passage of the chassis and providing an elongated channel in which is seated the latch bolt. The guide member is fabricated of synthetic resin and its passage is configured and dimensioned to snugly receive the latch bolt so as to preclude its rattling or inadvertent movement therewithin. An actuator is supported above the top surface of the housing, and a connecting element extends between the actuator and the latch bolt through registering openings in the top wall of the housing, the chassis and the guide member, and these apertures are elongated so as to permit the desired longitudinal movement of the latch bolt.

  • Patent number: 4805947
Abstract: According to the invention a door latch includes a cylindrical plastic housing member adapted for mounting within an aperture of a vehicle door and having an integrally molded escutcheon which overlies the walls of the door panel defining the door aperture. A molded plastic cylindrical handle member is rotatably journaled within the housing for rotary movement. A plastic cylindrical actuator member rotatably journaled within the handle member is connected with the door latch to unlatch the door latch upon axial movement of the actuator member. A cam means acts between the handle member and the actuator to effect axial movement of the actuator member in response to rotary movement of the handle member. The housing member preferably has upper and lower walls having coaxially lined apertures, while the handle member and a guide member slidably carried by the handle member each have integral bosses adapted to slip fit within the apertures of the walls of the housing member.

One of the body portions has a hook member mounted thereon and the other carrys a securing device. The latch is of one-piece molded construction comprising an elongate elastomeric member having a handle at one end, an opening therein adjacent the handle and a tongue in the opening extending from the handle toward the other end, the handle and tongue being integral with the elongate member. The free end of the tongue is adapted for engaging the hook member, and an opening is provided at the other end of the elongate member for connection to the securing device. The free end of the tongue is spaced from the opening a distance less than the distance the hook member is spaced from the securing device when the two body portions are adjacent one another and the elongate member is untensioned.

  • Patent number: 4793100
Abstract: A slide latch for latching the leading edge of a door, formed of a plastic panel, to an adjacent jamb-like member, is formed of a narrow, thin, horizontally elongated, flat plate positioned upon the door surface for sliding movement towards and away from the jamb-like member. Integral, narrow, rigid flanges, forming sled-like runners, are formed along the horizontally elongated side edges of the slider for slidable engagement with the panel surface. The slider is held within an open-ended, horizontally elongated, flattened loop that is struck-out of the panel. Stops are formed near the opposite ends of the slider for engaging the ends of the loops and thereby limiting the sliding movement of the slider. One of the stops may be enlarged to form a manual grip for moving the slider.

  • Patent number: 4779912
Abstract: A locking lever of a door latch can be operated either manually by operating a lock knob or electrically by applying a current to an electrically operating mechanism. The turning force of the mechanism is transmitted to the lever via a first oscillatory member and second one cooperative loosely with the first member. The second member operates to shift the lever to a lock or an unlock position after it has been turned by the first member by a prescribed angle. The first member energizes a return spring, the biasing force of which returns the first member to neutral position when the current to the mechanism is interrupted. The lock knob can be operated lightly since the mechanism with the first member at the neutral position does not obstructs the knob.
