Sash Fasteners Patents (Class 292/DIG47)
  • Patent number: 4736972
Abstract: A check rail lock having a housing with an interior space rotatably mounts a shaft connected to a handle and a cam and with stop members associated with the cam and the housing for limiting rotation of the cam between locked and unlocked positions. The cam is releasably held in either of these positions by mounting of a spring washer on the shaft to which the cam is fixed, and with the spring washer and the housing having coacting detent structure which releasably holds the cam in either the locked or unlocked position.

  • Patent number: 4699406
Abstract: A bolt fits slidably within a cylinder and is inserted in a drilled hole through a first slidable member to be interlocked. The bolt, under force of a coil spring within the cylinder, is forced into any of a series of aligned holes in a second member to be interlocked. A striker plate with aligned holes is attached to the second member and receives the end of the bolt as it slides until forced into a hole. A body is attached to the cylinder and the body is secured to the slidable first member to be interlocked. A D-spring on the body engages a D-spring notch on the bolt, locking the bolt in the projected position, thereby interlocking the two members. The body and handle, attached to the bolt, have flat surfaces which when aligned indicate that the D-spring is engaged to the D-spring notch. The handle must be rotated to disengage the D-spring and D-spring notch before the handle and bolt can be retracted.

  • Patent number: 4621847
Abstract: A sash lock for a casement window having a case with two sections of different height and with the lower level section having a top wall with a circular segment opening with a curved edge which receives a generally circular part of a rotatable operating member positioned in the opening and extending under a vertical wall interconnecting the two case sections of different height. The rotatable operating member has a curved edge of the same curvature as the curved edge of the case top wall opening as well as a peripheral flange underlying the curved edge of the top wall opening whereby in all rotative positions of the planar operating member the opening is effectively sealed.

  • Patent number: 4507894
Abstract: A universal single hung window including a frame and at least one prime window sash therein movable in the plane of the frame and tiltable about the lower edge thereof out of the plane of the frame, whereby the window may be used as a single hung or a hopper window in one position thereof and in another position thereof may be used as a glider window. The window structure includes a thermal barrier between a prime window and a storm window. A pivot lock having an over center spring therein extends in one position thereof into the path of the one prime window sash to lock it in closed position. In another position thereof the pivot lock permits movement of the one prime window sash in the plane of the frame.

  • Patent number: 4482178
Abstract: A lock for a storm window, a catch of the lock being adapted to fit within a track along which a positionable window slides to a closed position. Spring biased latches on the positionable window are automatically biased by the catch away from the track and received by a recess in the catch, which recess retains the latch and prevents movement of the positionable window.

  • Patent number: 4444422
Abstract: A sash lock for sliding windows as for example in vehicles such as buses is provided. The lock has a minimum of moving parts (two), and great strength. The lock comprises a lock body having a projecting latch plate which is adapted to engage a slot in a track adjacent a sliding window. The latch plate has an upper unitary lip which is engaged by downwardly projecting members on the latch handle, and there is an associated spring normally urging the latch plate toward the slotted track. Pivotal movement of the handle, in either direction, causes the latch plate to be released from the slotted track so that the latch and its associated window may readily be moved along the track.

  • Patent number: 4400026
Abstract: A tilt latch for a window sash including a base member mountable on a sash and a slide member disposed for sliding movement in a channel formed in the base member and resiliently biased toward an extended position in which a nose-shaped first end of the slide member engages a window frame to prevent the sash from tilting out of the frame. A downward projection formed on a second end portion of the slide member interferingly engages an end edge of the base member to arrest movement of the slide member at the extended position, but this second end portion of the slide member is dimensioned to enable the projection to be lifted manually out of such engagement so that the slide member can be moved beyond the extended position.

  • Patent number: 4300795
Abstract: The apparatus includes a lock unit having dual eccentrics that are spring biased toward an opposing planar support flange. The lock unit is mounted so that a selected sidewall of a conventional sliding panel track is squeezed between the eccentrics and the support flange by the force of the spring. Slide stops extend from the support flange into the operative area of the track to prevent horizontal sliding movement of the panel. The apparatus further includes a lift stop which may be used in conjunction with the lock unit to prevent the sliding panel from being lifted clear of the lower track. It comprises a flat spring having a bias toward assuming a U-shaped configuration. The spring legs are spread so that the spring can be inserted into the upper panel track above the panel.

  • Patent number: 4293154
Abstract: A safety lock for window sashes and the like is provided which comprises a bolt and a locking and mounting sleeve adapted to be inserted in a drilled hole in the sash or other member to be interlocked, the sleeve and bolt being provided with detent means for releasably retaining the bolt in fully inserted locked position, a partially inserted locked position and in retracted unlocked position. The bolt has an enlarged head of substantially the same diameter as the sleeve and the sleeve is recessed in the drilled hole so that the head of the bolt lies flush with the outer surface of the sash or other member where it is inconspicuous and cannot be grasped for withdrawal, withdrawal from fully locked to partially inserted locked position requiring the use of a magnet. A modification of the end of the sleeve may be utilized for attaching the sleeve to the outer wall of a sash or other unit having a hollow interior.

  • Patent number: 4274666
Abstract: A pressure-sensitive lock for sliding windows and doors has rotatable eccentric cam means adapted to be mounted on the sash of a sliding window or door so as to engage the adjacent window frame when the cam means is rotated into the locking position. The lock also has a pressure block for mounting on the opposite side of the window adjacent the frame, such that when the cam means is placed in locking position against the frame, the sliding window is forced toward the opposite frame and the pressure block is thereby wedged against the frame to prevent the window from opening.

  • Patent number: 4146256
Abstract: A latch assembly for use on a closure, e.g. a sash, the assembly comprising a housing from which a slidable, spring-biased latch bolt extends, an actuating handle pivotally mounted at one end in the housing for pivotal movement in a plane parallel to the plane of movement of the bolt and having an opposite end portion extending from a portion of the housing spaced from the portion of the housing from which the bolt extends and a pair of bolt-lifting levers pivotally mounted intermediate their ends within the housing, one end of each lever being engagable with the bolt and the opposite end of each lever being engagable by a projection on the handle intermediate its ends for withdrawing the bolt. When the handle is pivoted in one direction, one lever is engaged and lifts the bolt whereas when the handle is oppositely pivoted, the other lever is engaged and lifts the bolt. The levers are free to pivot when the bolt is pushed inwardly from externally of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4138150
Abstract: A window comprising a first sash, and a second sash movable relative to one another, and a window lock mounted on one of the sashes. The window lock includes a housing having an inner wall adjacent one sash and an outer wall. A block is fixed on the inner surface of the outer wall. A plunger is slidable in openings in the inner and outer walls and block. The opening in the inner and outer walls are circular. The opening in the block includes radial portions and the plunger has a radial projection conforming generally to the radial projection of the opening in the block. The other sash has an opening adapted to be engaged by the plunger such that when the plunger is in engagement with the opening in the other sash the other end of said plunger is spaced from the outer surface of the other wall. A knob is releasably engageable with the outer end of the plunger for engaging the plunger and moving it axially to unlock the sashes. A spring yieldingly urges the plunger toward the opening in the other sash.
