Patent number: 4796931Abstract: An exit device providing adjustable backset. This is achieved by having the touch bar linked to a driven element adjacent the base plate of the unit and the latch mechanism linked to an activator element also adjacent the base plate. These two elements are coupled by a sliding drive plate having a plurality of sets of apertures spaced along it to receive both elements respectively in a selected set. An exterior operator of specified backset is provided and connects with a cam adjacent an end of the drive plate to slide the plate when the exterior operator is moved. By selecting the proper set of apertures for the elements the installer can see that the cam is at the proper backset and therefore aligned with the operator.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1987Date of Patent: January 10, 1989Assignee: Yale Security Inc.Inventor: George E. Patent number: 4793100Abstract: A slide latch for latching the leading edge of a door, formed of a plastic panel, to an adjacent jamb-like member, is formed of a narrow, thin, horizontally elongated, flat plate positioned upon the door surface for sliding movement towards and away from the jamb-like member. Integral, narrow, rigid flanges, forming sled-like runners, are formed along the horizontally elongated side edges of the slider for slidable engagement with the panel surface. The slider is held within an open-ended, horizontally elongated, flattened loop that is struck-out of the panel. Stops are formed near the opposite ends of the slider for engaging the ends of the loops and thereby limiting the sliding movement of the slider. One of the stops may be enlarged to form a manual grip for moving the slider.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1987Date of Patent: December 27, 1988Assignee: Poly-John Enterprises Corp.Inventors: George W. Patent number: 4789191Abstract: A device for centering and securing a pair of door handles in a door having hole of circular cross section and a mortise lock with a square door handle mandrel. The device consists of 2 sets of three plate-shaped bodies engaging one another, the outer one having a hole for the bearing of a door handle and being larger than the door hole, a central body having essentially the same diameter as the door hole, and an inner body smaller than the door hole, all having a central hole for passage of the mandrel. The inner body and the outer body are clamped together by screws which pass through recesses in the central body. Consequently, the inner and outer bodies can be shifted in relation to the central body to compensate for any lack of alignment between the mandrel and the door hole prior to tightening of the screws. Then the screws are tightened so that the outer body and the inner body are clamped together around the central body and then the 2 sets are clamped to each other.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1986Date of Patent: December 6, 1988Assignee: Carl F. The mounting includes a main part (5) and a foot (6), the foot being a planar component provided with snap-engaging means to secure it on one side of an apertured panel (37), the side of the foot remote from the panel being formed with a series of teeth (19). The main part of the mounting includes abutment surfaces (8,12) to engage the side of the panel remote from the foot in areas (40,41) adjacent to the aperture, the abutment surfaces being so positioned and configured as to allow sliding motion of the main part in one direction relative to the panel. The main part further includes a series of teeth (20) complementary to the teeth of the foot, the two complementary series of teeth interlocking when the abutment surfaces of the main part engage the panel to prevent relative motion between the main part and the foot.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1980Date of Patent: August 10, 1982Assignee: ITW LimitedInventor: Alan M.
