Adjustment Provisions Patents (Class 292/DIG60)
  • Patent number: 4881765
Abstract: The vertical slide in the latch linkage of an exit device is coupled for vertical movement together with a channel inside the door stile. The channel holds a pair of blocks having inclined surfaces held in touching relation and relatively slideable. The vertical latch-operating rod is attached to the first of the blocks and the other block is secured to the channel by a horizontally disposed threaded adjusting element. The side walls of the channel restrict the first of the blocks from lateral but not vertical movement. The other block is restricted from lateral movement only by the threaded element, and turning the threaded element moves that block from side to side in the channel to raise or lower the first block as the inclined surfaces slide. This changes the effective length of the rod. The turning of the threaded element may be done from the outside of the door through an access hole.

  • Patent number: 4763935
Abstract: A rotary operated latch of the "lift and turn" fastener type is disclosed having a cam action in the handle such that when the handle is moved to a latched position, it provides a pull on the pawl to compress a door or panel against a door or panel frame, or its gasket, to provide a tight seal. An over-center action prevents accidental release. A slot and pin arrangement prevents moving the handle to a latched position, except when the pin and slot are aligned. While the pawl and handle are normally rotatable relative to a sleeve in the door or panel which carries the mechanism, the pin and slot are so located as to be incapable of sufficient axial relative movement to move the handle into a latched position, except when the pawl is rotatably positioned for movement into a latched position.

The yoke has a tapped hole and receives a machine screw which also penetrates an arcuate slot in the slider. Displacement of the yoke relative to the slot, corrects the handle droop by causing the cam to be slightly tilted. Accordingly, the handle shaft in the cam is correspondingly rotated about its axis, and the handle is brought into alignment with the horizontal.

Abstract: A door latch (24) suitable for latching a door (20) to a door frame (22). The door latch (24), in a preferred embodiment, has an adjustable nose bolt (36); is "panic unlatchable"; and can be operated by axial or rotational spindle forces supplied by, for example, a push button (48) or a door knob (120). The latch apparatus (24) preferably includes an adjustable nose bolt (36) which is adjustable in and out relative to the spindle (50). A trunnion (58) interposed between the inside handle (46) and the nose bolt (36) allows for relative adjustment of the nose bolt (36) with respect to the handle (46). In addition, a preferred embodiment of the latch apparatus (24) includes a lock lever (100) which forms a recess (108) suitable for capturing a spindle ear (110) to substantially prevent the spindle from operating the latch apparatus (24) to move the nose bolt (36) from a first position to a second position.

Abstract: A child proof safety latch for a cabinet door or drawer. The safety latch includes a base plate receivable on the door, with a hook extending from the base plate to engage the cabinet. A holding plate is provided to locate the base plate, and the holding plate and base plate have teeth for ratchet adjustment of the base plate. A screw passes through the holding plate and the base plate to secure the latch to the door, and the latch is rotatable to place the hook in a position so the hook will not engage the cabinet. The latch therefore has an operable position and an inoperable position.

Abstract: A fastening device for a cupboard door, which includes a catch member that is slidable within a carriage, the catch member and the carriage being biassed outwardly by means of springs. A restraining member is displaceable into and out of engagement with the carriage to restrain displacement thereof, and has a projection for restraining it in engagement with the carriage. Both the restraining member and the projection are externally operable. The fastening device also includes a locking means having a bolt slidable in a housing which defines a blocking pin, a tumbler plate having an annular recess and a auxiliary plate having an H-shaped aperture, in which recess and aperture the pin is received. The plates engage the bolt and prevent displacement thereof unless the plates themselves are displaced relative to the pin.

  • Patent number: 4613176
Abstract: A door latch mechanism has a pivoted latch disposed between a retaining solenoid and a four-bar toggle linkage. The toggle linkage connects the operating stem of the solenoid to the latch, has an under-the-center arrangement in a direction away from the solenoid in the latched position of the mechanism, and provides a substantial mechanical advantage to amplify the holding force of the solenoid. When the solenoid is de-energized and pressure is applied to open the door, the latch pivots and the toggle linkage collapses to release the keeper bar. The keeper bar is trapped but has a limited movement in both horizontal and vertical directions in a plane substantially parallel to the pivot axis of the latch. The overall arrangement is relatively simple, compact, inexpensive, easy to install, and reliable in its operation.
