Abstract: The present invention relates to a connection system for use with an active or passive protection device that minimizes weight. In accordance with the present invention, a single stem connection system for use with an active protection device includes a single bent cable that is attached to the single cable terminal of the active protection device. A stem tube is fitted over a portion of the bent cable giving the appearance and benefits of a single stem. However, a portion of the bent cable is left separated thereby automatically forming a clip-in point for the entire active protection device. Unlike conventional single stem connection systems, the single stem system in accordance with the present invention only requires coupling the cable to the cable terminal thereby reducing manufacturing cost and minimizing overall weight. Alternatively, a similar connection system can be used with a passive protection device to provide many of the same benefits.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a dual stem active camming device including a plurality of compression springs independently coupled to a plurality of cam lobes. The compression springs are positioned between the trigger and the clip-in point of the cam to protect the springs from damage and allow the trigger to compress the springs upon retraction. A flexible stem tube is positioned over the portion of the dual stem between the trigger and the cable terminals. The flexible stem tube shields the trigger wires from debris and abrasion. A rigid yoke is also positioned over the dual stem between the stem tube and cable terminals. The rigid yoke prevents uneven lateral bending on the head of the camming device that may otherwise cause the device to pull out of a placement. The cable terminals are positioned between the outer cam lobes and on either side of the inner cam lobe.

A locking plate is provided for locking the arms in the closed position slidably disposed at the hinge ends of the arms. The locking plate is movable from a first unlocked position to a second locked position whereby the locking plate engages the hinged ends of the arms and prevents the arms from opening.

  • Patent number: 5110167
Abstract: A device for handling discs such as compact and other discs, method of use and packaging, the device comprising a handle for holding and actuating the device, a first and second arm connected to the handle at a juncture, each arm comprising a distal end having a gripper and a proximal end where the arms are movably attached to each other. The device also comprises a pivot for pivoting the arms in response to actuation of the handle which is located between the juncture of the handle means and the arms. Pressure is applied to the handles so that their inner surfaces move closer together causing the grippers on the arms to pivot away from each other about a pivot so that the grippers may be located about the disc edge. The applied pressure is released so that the grippers engage the edge of the disc which is then removed from its container or other surface.

  • Patent number: 5085477
Abstract: A clamping device is provided that forms a preset opening for engagement with a bottle neck. A removable neck ring having a U-shape is adapted to engage a portion of the bottle neck. The ring is hingedly attached to the corner of an L-shaped lever. The lever comprises a bail with a fixed outwardly extending abutment leg which has a concave structure corresponding to a portion of the bottle neck. The leg includes flared corner portions which overlap a part of the neck ring. Rotation of the bail just past an intermediate position will cause the abutment leg to snap down against the neck ring. This results from the corner hinge orbiting from a position spaced-apart and below the area of neck/leg contact to an area above the neck/leg contact simultaneous with rotation of the lever about the neck ring hinge connection.

Abstract: A portable hand tool, for holding an elongate needle cap so that a syringe needle can safely be inserted into the cap, has a lever structure comprising a pair of juxtaposed, mating, pivotally connected levers. The levers at their front ends have marginal edges defining a cap receiving opening parallel to the axis of pivot. The structure provides a wall functioning as a base for the opening and a spring normally biases the front ends of the levers to a closed cap gripping position. The levers are operated by squeezing their rear ends to achieve a cap receiving and releasing position.

  • Patent number: 4417757
Abstract: A record handling tool employs a retractable spindle for engaging and gripping the spindle hole of a recording disc. The retractable spindle is positioned coincident with the spindle hold by contact of two spaced-apart grooves on guide arms on a record handling tool with the circular rim of the recording disc. The retractable spindle is left in its retracted position while a support arm of the tool is inserted into a dust jacket between the dust jacket and the recording disc. When contact is made between the guide arms and the edge of the recording disc, thus positioning the retractable spindle coincident with the spindle hole of the recording disc, the retractable spindle is extended from the support arm thus passing through and gripping the recording disc by its spindle hole. The recording disc remains clamped in a three point grip including two spaced-apart points of contact on the circular edge of the recording disc as well as the single point of contact at the spindle hole.

Abstract: A device for holding a pot on a gas range burner in a moving recreational vehicle. The device is attachable to a burner grate of the type having radial bars with sloping lower edges, and it has a deck with lateral edges that interfit with a neighboring pair of the radial bars so as to support the deck on the bars and permit it to span the space between them. A pair of locking levers are pivotally supported at a common point under the deck. From their common pivot point, the locking levers extend forwardly and terminate in outturned, downwardly offset feet designed to swing outwardly into frictional contact with the lower edges of the neighboring radial bars from points intermediate the bars. To the rear, the locking levers are formed into a pair of handles. Mounted above the deck on a pair of pivoted brackets are two clamping members with forward portions formed into curved arms for embracing the pot, and rear portions serving as handles.
