Patent number: 12194780Abstract: A device (1) for rail vehicles. The rail vehicles device incudes a predominantly hollow axle tube (2) extending along a longitudinal direction (LR) and ending in a first wheel flange (3), and a wheel support (4) extending opposite to the longitudinal direction (LR), having a wheel bearing (5), a second wheel flange (6) and a conical mandrel (7). The second wheel flange (6), the first wheel flange (3) and a wheel (8) are arranged therebetween with a wheel hub (9) connected to each other via a flange connection. The conical mandrel (7) is inserted from the wheel holder (4) in a positive-locking manner opposite to the longitudinal direction (LR) through the wheel hub (9) of the wheel (8) into the interior of the axle tube (2) and ends at the fastening element (11), which is arranged and cast into the axle tube (2) and is connected thereto.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2019Date of Patent: January 14, 2025Inventor: Lothar Thoni

Patent number: 9255603Abstract: A machine has an outer housing that receives a drive shaft. A bearing housing supports a bearing. The drive shaft is mounted within the bearing and the outer housing. Attachment members extend between the outer housing and the bearing housing. A selected damping includes an elastomeric ring attached to a surface of a bearing housing and an outer housing. A selectively moveable plate is connected to the outer housing and the bearing housing. The plate is selectively moveable from a position at which it engages the elastomeric ring to a point at which it is spaced from the elastomeric ring.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2014Date of Patent: February 9, 2016Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventor: Brace E. Patent number: 6048015Abstract: A railroad car wheelset has an axle with one wheel rigidly attached as in conventional railroad practice. This wheel is permitted to rotate by journal bearings either on the extreme ends of the axle or inboard of each wheel location. At the location of the other wheel, the axle is provided with a smooth surface and a self-lubricating bearing is provided as a part of a hub on the axle. The axle shaft is provided with a boss for preventing the independently rotating wheel from migrating laterally out of proper alignment. A self-lubricating thrust bearing is located between this boss and the side of the wheel to eliminate any possible galling between the two moving surfaces. A removable retainer plate is located on the other side of the independently rotating wheel to prevent the wheel from moving laterally in that direction.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1998Date of Patent: April 11, 2000Assignee: T.W. Blasingame Company, Inc.Inventors: Thomas W. Blasingame, Robert E. Hord, Jr.

Patent number: 5988720Abstract: A wheel set with independent and combined rotation of the running surfaces of the wheels, of use as a driving axle of a transport device, e.g. an underground railway car. It comprises an axle 1 and wheels having hubs 2 rigidly connected to the axle 1. The running surface of one wheel is formed on a rim rigidly connected to the hub. The running surface 3 of the other wheel is formed on a rim 4 connected to the hub with possibility of rotation. The rim is connected to the hub via smooth surfaces of rotation, e.g. cylindrical surfaces 5 or conical surfaces 6. Parameters of the connection such as the diameter, roughness, hardness, or material are chosen subject to the condition that the torque defined by the frictional forces at the connection in a state of rest is greater than the torque applied to the axle when the transport device starts. During the process of motion, the torque decreases and the rim 4 can rotate relative to the hub, so that the wheels rotate at different angular speeds, e.g.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1996Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignees: Arkady Moiseevich Fridberg, Leonid V. Patent number: 4318564Abstract: A wheel for rail vehicles with at least one disc which is connected to an axle, and with a wheel rim having a tread or surface surrounding the disc, while the rail tread in engagement with the rim tread results in contacting points of the wheel during straight forward drive of the vehicle located on the tread or track of the rails. At least within that region of the rim which contains the above mentioned rail contacting points of the wheel rim the wheel rim is turnably connected to the disc for turning about an imaginary axis located in about the driving direction of the wheel.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1978Date of Patent: March 9, 1982Assignee: Schwabische Huttenwerke Gesellschaft mit beschrankter HaftungInventor: Hans-Martin Brauer
