Abstract: A transit wheel is disclosed comprising a body having a bore through the center thereof, a hub about the bore extending through a web to an outer portion, and an annular rim having a circular inside surface disposed against a circular outside surface of the outer portion. The inside surface of the annular rim and the outside surface of the outer portion are each provided with a circumferential groove, which grooves are substantially aligned when the annular rim is disposed against the outer portion. The transit wheel further includes a damping rod formed into a ring and disposed within the aligned grooves, with the ring traversing at least 95% of the circumference of the groove.

  • Patent number: 4212491
Abstract: A resilient wheel is provided comprising a hub and web having a rim mated to and resiliently bonded to the web with an elastomeric adhesive. Depending on the application the outer circumference of the rim may have a flange machined into it so that it serves as the tire for the wheel or machined smooth to accept a separate tire. To prevent the rim from shifting relative to the web as the elastomeric adhesive ages, a plurality of locking pins are inserted through the rim and bond line into the web and bonded into place. The rim is thus effectively prevented from shifting even if the adhesive substantially or even totally disbonds from the mated parts. Several variants of these locking pins are possible to achieve improved economy for maintenance purposes or improved longevity of the wheel.

  • Patent number: 4010972
Abstract: A wheel set for a bogie of a track vehicle in which wheels are mounted non-rotatably on an axle mounted in bearings of the bogie. Substantially wide rubber elastic inserts for springing each of the wheels, have an arched axial-radial cross-section. The height of the arch in radial direction is small relative to the width of the arch. The insert is arranged, furthermore, between the wheel hub and the wheel rim in the proximity of the hub boring and extending substantially over the entire width of the wheel hub. The apex of the arched insert faces the hub boring.

  • Patent number: 3988992
Abstract: A truck for a high speed rail vehicle which has a friction bearing between the car body and the truck frame so as to restrain movement of the frame about its vertical axis until the friction between the friction bearing and the truck frame has been overcome. The truck also has axle bearings in the form of mutually inclined surfaces made of material of high stiffness in the normal direction of travel of the truck.

  • Patent number: 3986747
Abstract: A rubber shock-absorbent track wheel in which annular grooves are provided on the ring of the wheel and on the rim of the wheel disc. The grooves are formed between shoulders, and a clearance space is defined between the grooves and the shoulder. Prestressed rubber plates located within the clearance space have plane areas when in the original state. The two annular grooves are turned to one another so that the height of the clearance space varies over its width, and the height of the clearance space is maximum at the centers of the grooves. The rubber plates are more prestressed at their outer areas than in the middle areas of the rubber plates when positioned between the base of the annular grooves of wheel disc and ring.

  • Patent number: 3980333
Abstract: A rubber-suspended railway wheel having a highly-prestressed rubber insert embedded in facing annular grooves formed in the wheel rim and in the wheel tire and wherein, in order to restrict the extent of axial movement between the wheel tire and wheel rim, a shoulder of the annular groove of the wheel rim overlaps a shoulder of the annular groove of the wheel tire.

  • Patent number: 3960400
Abstract: A railway wheel of lightweight construction, having a disc-like wheel body and a tire which is tension-mounted on the wheel rim, and with the wheel disc including a tangential undulating or wavelike configuration of radially extending crests and troughs. In the railway wheel, between an inner annularly extending groove formed in the wheel tire and an outer annular groove formed in the wheel rim, there is provided a pre-tensioned or pre-stressed rubber insert, and in which the wheel disc has a radially unwaved conical basic configuration.
