Attached Gear Patents (Class 295/5)
  • Patent number: 6343554
Abstract: A vehicle wheel includes a wheel hub rotatably mounted on a stationary axle and a running tread, tire or the like connected with the wheel hub. A device for connecting structural components such as, for instance, a transmission part or a brake disk, for the purpose of transmitting a torque between the wheel hub and the structural component to be connected is provided on the external end face of the wheel hub. In order to provide a modularly designed vehicle wheel easy to mount and dismount, the device for connecting structural components is applicable facultatively and a fastening device spacially separated from the device for facultatively connecting structural components is provided on the external end face of the wheel hub. The vehicle wheel may be designed as a driven wheel or a loose wheel with or without brake. By separating torque transmission and power transmission, mounting and dismounting of the vehicle wheel is substantially facilitated.

  • Patent number: 5951081
Abstract: A method and apparatus for aiding in positioning during assembly of a locomotive wheel with respect to a drive gear mounted adjacent the wheel during assembly and for maintaining the position of the drive gear during locomotive operation. The apparatus includes a lateral stop including a spacer formed of a semi-elastomeric material having a low coefficient of friction and specially adapted to fit into a stress relief groove of an axle between a hub of the drive gear and a hub of the wheel. The spacer is so designed as to be installable on the locomotive axle after installation of the drive gear, to be self-centering on the axle and to inhibit rotation of the spacer with respect to the axle such that the axle will not be marked circumferentially by spacer rotation.

  • Patent number: 3988992
Abstract: A truck for a high speed rail vehicle which has a friction bearing between the car body and the truck frame so as to restrain movement of the frame about its vertical axis until the friction between the friction bearing and the truck frame has been overcome. The truck also has axle bearings in the form of mutually inclined surfaces made of material of high stiffness in the normal direction of travel of the truck.
