Patent number: 4890892Abstract: A track roller assembly supports and guides a portion of the endless track of a track type vehicle as that portion of the track travels between a drive wheel and an idler wheel of the vehicle. The rim portions of the roller assembly include a plurality of alternating resilient non-metallic rings and metallic rings. The non-metallic rings are compressed between the metallic rings to increase the diameter of the outer walls of the rings. The link rails contact the non-metallic rings only. Conventional track supporting rollers have metallic treads which generate noise and impact against the metal link rails. The rollers often fail to rotate due to insufficient friction with the link rails. The subject roller assembly, with resilient rings in contact with the link rails, generates low levels of noise and vibration and produces sufficient friction to rotate the rollers.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1988Date of Patent: January 2, 1990Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventor: Glenn M. Patent number: 4818041Abstract: An idler wheel assembly for a track-type vehicle has a hub member and a plurality of replaceable wear segments positioned around the circumference of the hub. A plurality of U-shaped grooves in the circumferential surface of the hub receive resilient means. The wear segments also fit within the grooves and hold the resilient means in place. A plurality of clamping members encircle the hub, overlap the wear segments, and clamp the resilient means between the wear segments and the grooves as they are secured to the hub. The wear segments are therefore resiliently isolated from the idler hub. Conventional idler wheels for track-type vehicles have exterior rims which contact the track and guide the track as the vehicle is operated. This contact between the wheel rims an the track produces objectionable noise and vibration. The subject idler wheel assembly generates low levels of noise and vibration by isolating the rims or wear segments from the wheel hub with resilient rings.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1988Date of Patent: April 4, 1989Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventor: Thomas E. Patent number: 4212491Abstract: A resilient wheel is provided comprising a hub and web having a rim mated to and resiliently bonded to the web with an elastomeric adhesive. Depending on the application the outer circumference of the rim may have a flange machined into it so that it serves as the tire for the wheel or machined smooth to accept a separate tire. For this purpose there is provided a noise screen connected to at least one surface of the rail wheel in a force transmitting, yet removable manner. The noise screen comprises vibration damping reed members. This screen prevents noise generated by the wheel proper from radiating outwardly and it also acts as a noise absorber for the impact noise propagating in the wheel and other solid bodies.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1977Date of Patent: January 15, 1980Assignee: Messerschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm GmbHInventors: Helmut Albrecht, Oskar Bschorr, Helmut Hassel

Patent number: 3988992Abstract: A truck for a high speed rail vehicle which has a friction bearing between the car body and the truck frame so as to restrain movement of the frame about its vertical axis until the friction between the friction bearing and the truck frame has been overcome. The truck also has axle bearings in the form of mutually inclined surfaces made of material of high stiffness in the normal direction of travel of the truck.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1974Date of Patent: November 2, 1976Assignee: Wegman & Co.Inventor: Manfred Schindehutte

Patent number: 3986747Abstract: A rubber shock-absorbent track wheel in which annular grooves are provided on the ring of the wheel and on the rim of the wheel disc. The grooves are formed between shoulders, and a clearance space is defined between the grooves and the shoulder. Prestressed rubber plates located within the clearance space have plane areas when in the original state. The two annular grooves are turned to one another so that the height of the clearance space varies over its width, and the height of the clearance space is maximum at the centers of the grooves. The rubber plates are more prestressed at their outer areas than in the middle areas of the rubber plates when positioned between the base of the annular grooves of wheel disc and ring.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1974Date of Patent: October 19, 1976Assignee: Fried. Patent number: 3980333Abstract: A rubber-suspended railway wheel having a highly-prestressed rubber insert embedded in facing annular grooves formed in the wheel rim and in the wheel tire and wherein, in order to restrict the extent of axial movement between the wheel tire and wheel rim, a shoulder of the annular groove of the wheel rim overlaps a shoulder of the annular groove of the wheel tire.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1974Date of Patent: September 14, 1976Inventors: Willi Kasper, Helmut Licht

Patent number: 3960400Abstract: A railway wheel of lightweight construction, having a disc-like wheel body and a tire which is tension-mounted on the wheel rim, and with the wheel disc including a tangential undulating or wavelike configuration of radially extending crests and troughs. In the railway wheel, between an inner annularly extending groove formed in the wheel tire and an outer annular groove formed in the wheel rim, there is provided a pre-tensioned or pre-stressed rubber insert, and in which the wheel disc has a radially unwaved conical basic configuration.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1974Date of Patent: June 1, 1976Assignee: Fried.
