  • Patent number: 6315349
Abstract: A folding hard top (3) for a convertible, in which the rear end (10) of the forward top panel (6) has a first cut-out (14) extending in the widthwise direction of the vehicle across a substantial part of the width of the forward top panel. The front edge (15) of the first cut-out is located in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle at a first distance (1) from a first hinge axis (12) forward of said axis. The rearward top panel (7) comprises a second cut-out (16) formed in its front end (11) and extending in the widthwise direction of the vehicle through a substantial part of the width of the rearward top panel. The rear edge (17) of the second cut-out is located in the longitudinal direction at a second distance (L) from the first hinge axis (12) rearward of said axis. A middle top panel (8) is hinged on the rearward top panel (7) near the rear edge (17) of the second cut-out (16) so as to allow it to turn about a horizontal second hinge axis (18).

  • Patent number: 6312042
Abstract: A hardtop vehicle roof has a forward roof section, a rearward roof section and a kinematic adjusting system for adjusting the roof sections between a closed position and a deposited position. The kinematic adjusting system includes a vehicle-fixed first guide link and a guiding element which is guided in the guide link and is connected with one of the roof sections. In order to provide a space-saving, flexibly constructed vehicle roof, a second guide link is swivellable about a vehicle-fixed rotation axis. The guiding element of the roof section is slidingly guided in the first as well as the second guide link.

  • Patent number: 6312041
Abstract: The invention concerns a roof (1) extending between the windscreen upper rim (2) and the top edge (3) of a bow (4) extended upwards. The roof (1) is in two parts (8, 9), the first part (8) located near the bow (4) being linked with the vehicle lateral part (10) by two articulated arms (11, 12) mobile between a position extending upwards wherein said roof first part (8) is located in front of the bow (4) and a tilted position towards the rear wherein said arms (11, 12) and said roof first part (8) are located in the rear trunk (5), the second roof part (9) being linked to the first part by means enabling the second roof part (9) to be moved onto the first part (8) when the arms (11, 12) are tilted.

  • Patent number: 6299234
Abstract: A hard-top vehicle is provided with a roof structure which includes a roof part and a rear-window part connected pivotably thereto. The roof structure is lowered from a closed position, in which it bears in the region of a front windscreen frame and covers the rear-passenger-compartment region, into an open position, towards the tail-end region of the vehicle, via a positive-control device. The positive control device is supported in the tail-end region of the vehicle bodywork and can be pivoted about a tail-end pivot pin fixed to the vehicle, into a folding-top compartment. The positive-control device includes at least one control element which is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to the roof part in the region of a roof pivot pin. In this arrangement, the control element is designed as a linkage which acts on a guide part, in the region of the roof pivot pin, with a guide rod and a main guide rod.

  • Publication number: 20010020793
Abstract: A convertible motor vehicle roof with a roof column (4), especially a D-column, which can be moved into a stowed position by a bearing mechanism when the motor vehicle roof is being opened, the bearing mechanism (25) moving the roof column (4) forward on its bottom end with respect to the motor vehicle body and depositing it in its stowed position in a pivoting motion directed rearward around the bottom end of the column. The bearing mechanism (25) can have a linkage arrangement with a first four-bar mechanism (26) which essentially executes forward motion, and a second four-bar mechanism (27) which is combined with it and which executes the pivoting motion. The roof element (2) can be coupled with a pivoting capacity to the top end of the roof column (4).

  • Publication number: 20010019213
Abstract: A convertible motor vehicle roof (1) with a main roof element (3) and at least one other roof element (2, 4), which are movably joined to one another, and with a main bearing mechanism (6) which pivotally mounts the main roof element (3) on the body and transfers the former in the opening process of the motor vehicle roof, together with the roof element (2, 4) coupled thereto, into a stowed position, the coupled roof element (2) being moved via its connecting means (13) which is controlled by the main bearing means (6) during motion of the main roof element (3) roughly parallel to, under or over the main roof element (3) when the main roof element (3) which is supported on the body side is pivoted by the main bearing means (3).

  • Patent number: 6257650
Abstract: An automobile including an occupant seat section C and a loading platform section T adjoining a rear side of the occupant seat section is provided with a movable roof R which is selectively movable between a closed position Rs which closes a top opening O in the occupant seat section C, and an opened position Ro which opens the top opening O. The movable roof R covers at least a portion of the loading platform section when the movable roof is in the opened position Ro. Thus, in a state in which the movable roof R has been retained in the opened position to open the top opening O in the occupant seat section C, at least a part of loads within the loading platform section T can be covered with the roof R and hence, it is possible to effectively prevent such loads from being exposed to direct sunlight and from flying out of the loading platform section.
