  • Patent number: 6920721
Abstract: Off-site factory built structure employs a chassis including two interior longitudinal beam members joined at their ends to a perimeter structure. A floor system is integrated within the chassis perimeter. A ledger member is fixed to the inner surface of each longitudinal perimeter member so that a top surface lies in a plane coincident with top surfaces of the interior longitudinal beams. Lateral members are coupled to the tops of the interior longitudinal beams and to the top of the ledger members. The lateral members include secondary stiffening members such as C-channel members, metal Z-channel members, or other metal members of similar structural capacity, spaced apart from each other by a maximum distance S, related to the width of the floor system W, by the equation: S 12?½W.

  • Patent number: 6902226
Abstract: A semi-trailer for transporting salvageable materials is disclosed including a platform having multiple compartments thereon. A first sidewall extends along a platform first side and is supported by front and rear end walls and a partition wall spaced apart between the platform end walls. A second sidewall is pivotably mounted for movement between a closed position along a platform second side, and a raised position for side loading of materials when the semi-trailer is stationary. The second sidewall is supported by forward, middle, and rear upper segments extending laterally above the platform. Each upper segment is pivotably connected to upper portions of the first sidewall to provide clamshell movement of the second sidewall above the platform. A lifting mechanism includes a plurality of lifting cylinders positioned proximal of front and rear end walls and the partition wall for raising the second sidewall to provide unhindered side access to each compartments.

  • Patent number: 6896316
Abstract: A semi-trailer for transport of recyclable materials including a wheeled undercarriage having a platform mounted thereon with dimensions sufficient for stacking a plurality of crushed vehicles thereon. A contained area having an open top is bounded by a fixed sidewall having front and rear end walls attached perpendicular thereto, and a second sidewall pivotably mounted for movement between a closed position parallel to the fixed sidewall and a raised position above the platform. The second sidewall is supported by front and rear upper segments extending adjacently above and pivotably connected to respective front and rear end walls, for clamshell movement relative to the platform. Hydraulic members extend from mid-portions of front and rear end walls and connect to front and rear upper segments for raising the second sidewall to provide unhindered side access. The second sidewall is moved to the closed position for contained transport of recyclable materials over public roads.

  • Patent number: 6889417
Abstract: An improved truck bed toolbox lid and a method of producing the same. The truck bed toolbox lid includes an outer metallic sheet layer comprising a generally rectangular top sheet member, a longitudinal front edge member, two lateral edge members and a longitudinal rear edge member. A metallic liner sheet member is disposed inside the top sheet member in edge contact abutment with beveled inside edges of the front and rear longitudinal edge members and the lateral edge members to create an internal cavity in which the liner is by stitch welding. One or more injection ports are provided through the liner sheet member through which a self-expanding and self-curing, relatively high-density, foam is injected. The stitch welded edge contacts leave non-welded, gas permeable junctions along the wedged cavity periphery at a funneled apex of the edge contacted boundary which facilitate expansion of the foam toward the outermost edges of the cavity.

  • Patent number: 6837536
Abstract: A belly pan, or membrane of rigid yet flexible material is of elongated shaped outline to be mounted along the bottom of tractor-trailer to improve the aerodynamic performance. The belly pan is provided with a tapered front portion to be attached to the frontal portion of the trailer to the approximate location of the truck hitch. The belly pan extends rearwardly, under the trailer, between the rear wheels in a rectangular portion and the rearward edge is affixed to the ICC bumper of the trailer. An aerodynamic shaped deflector is attached to the frontal portion of the landing gear of the trailer and attaches to the belly pan for reducing drag between the underside of the trailer and the support beams of the landing gear. A similar aerodynamic shaped deflector is attached to the frontal portion of the ICC bumper and attached to the belly pan for reducing drag between the underside of the trailer and the beams of the ICC bumper.

  • Publication number: 20040232726
Abstract: A truck bed divider apparatus includes a first side frame member, a second side frame member, and side-frame-to-side-frame spacing means connected between the first side frame member and the second side frame member. A pair of partition gates are hingedly connected between the first side frame member and the second side frame member. The partition gates prevent items carried on the truck bed from moving toward the front of the truck bed away from the tailgate. With one embodiment, the respective side frame members are fastened to walls of the truck bed, and respective partition gate are nested within the respective side frame members when the partition gates are not in use. The apparatus of the invention permits positioning of items carried on the truck bed near the end of the bed, near the tailgate, so that the items are easier to reach from the tailgate end of the bed.
