  • Patent number: 6698810
Abstract: The subject of the current invention is an eight-functions-in-one truck tailgate extender. It consists of a load-carrying member positioned parallel to and proximate the upper edge of a truck tailgate with one or more telescoping assemblies connecting the load-carrying member to either the tailgate or to the truck body. Depending on the degree of extension of the telescoping assemblies, the load-carrying member may be resting on or near the top of the tailgate, or it may be extended at various lengths up to the full extension of the telescoping assemblies. A locking mechanism between the individual elements of the telescoping assemblies allows the load-carrying member to be affixed at varying distances away from the top of the tailgate. Further, the load-carrying member has a plurality of holes, or other suitable means along its length, to serve as tie-down points for various width loads. The load-carrying member can also be fitted with one or more horizontal, elongate members which serve as a bicycle rack.

  • Patent number: 6575509
Abstract: An extendable vehicle bumper for external transportation and storage of objects. A horizontal platform is mounted to the underside of a vehicle frame and is attached at one end to the vehicle bumper. The platform is extendable on a horizontal plane between an open position and a closed position. In the closed position, the platform is supported in a horizontal plane within the vehicle framework on the underside of the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle bumper serves to access the platform by providing a handle for extending the platform outwardly from the vehicle frame. When the platform is in the open position, the platform extends beyond the vehicle profile and is generally in rigid relation with the vehicle. The horizontal platform is extendable between the open and closed position by support arms fixed to the platform opposite the vehicle bumper.

  • Patent number: 6568733
Abstract: A cargo area extender is provided that consists of a top panel, a bottom panel and two side panels. When the tailgate of a truck or SUV is opened, hinged pins in the side panels pull the side panels into channels on the bottom panel. Once the tailgate is lowered, the top panel, which is adjacent to the bottom panel and connected to the bottom panel with hinges, is rotated upward and outward around the hinges. A latch on the bottom panel is then deployed to extend and lock the side panels into an open position. The top panel is closed to form a temporary tailgate. A handle on the top panel latches the top panel to the cargo area extender sliding side panels and the cargo area extender is fully deployed.

  • Patent number: 6464274
Abstract: An interlocking slidable assembly useful for movable extensible platforms, such as a movable or sliding floor or plate extension used with the rear cargo areas of a motor vehicle such as a pickup truck. This assembly includes a first and second plurality of rotatable members spaced apart along parallel axes that slidably interlock with the guide members of the rail or rails. Each of the rotatable members is rotatable about a substantially vertical rotational axis and slidably engages the respective guide member of the rail or rails. One of the guide members or the rotatable members have a recess in the periphery thereof to slidably receive the other of the guide and rotatable members. Because the rotatable members rotate about vertical axes, there is better and more even distribution of weight on the weight-bearing surfaces that makes it easier for slidable movement and decreases the amount of wear.
