Trunk Lids Patents (Class 296/76)
  • Patent number: 5873619
Abstract: An adjustable hinge assembly and method for using the same to adjust a cover relative to vehicle opening is disclosed. The adjustable hinge assembly includes a hinge box and an adjustable link pivotally connected to the hinge box about a first pivot axis. The adjustable link includes a mount defining a second pivot axis. The adjustable link may be pivoted relative to the hinge box to adjust the position of the second pivot axis relative to the hinge box. The hinge assembly may be used to mount a hinge strap and deck lid to a backshelf of a vehicle. Pivotally moving the adjustment link relative to the hinge box allows the deck lid to adjust relative to a deck lid opening in the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5803526
Abstract: The present invention provides an elegant automotive accessory which includes a fortified, rigid projection (23) capable of bearing a substantial load such as an integral extended ledge, surface, lever or lip on one portion of a license plate frame (12) mounted on a vehicle such as a car, van or truck. This fortified, rigid projection or surface (23) provides a safe, convenient handle that is especially designed to enable the user to open and to close a trunk deck lid (DL) of an automobile (A). Although the preferred embodiment (10F) of the present invention utilizes an integral load-bearing projecting surface (23F) formed into a license plate frame (12), alternative embodiments may employ separate handles (28) or knobs (40). These separate rigid and firmly-coupled projections that are not integrally formed with a license plate frame may be directly coupled or affixed to other portions of the door which it will be used to open and close.

A second swelling part is formed at a portion corresponding to the first swelling part in the return part of the second plate member so as to be in face-to-face contact with the first swelling part. The first and second swelling parts are joined by laser welding.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to an adjustable hinge assembly for a vehicle closure or deck lid which can be readily, vertically adjusted to enable the deck lid to be positioned so as to be flush with adjacent quarter panels of the vehicle when in a closed position. This is achieved by providing a stationary hinge box with slotted sides and a horizontal slide with skewed slotted sides to effect vertical movement of a hinge pivot of a hinge strap to raise and lower a deck lid connected to the hinge strap.

  • Patent number: 5072985
Abstract: A vehicular trunk lid structure is formed by overlapping the end of the outer panel upon the end of the inner panel, to be followed by hemming process, wherein recesses are defined adjacent to the end of said inner panel, and said recesses are deepened toward and welded to said outer panel. By such arrangement, the weld bead due to the spot-welding is concealed inside the trunk room to be obscured from the outside and thus the need of finishing work to remove the weld bead is eliminated. As a consequence, an aesthetic improvement and a manufacturing cost reduction are accomplished.

Abstract: A roof is opened and closed by utilizing a trunk lid for opening and closing a trunk room. The trunk lid can be raised and lowered while it is held substantially horizontal. The trunk lid is provided with a roof slide unit for moving the roof in longitudinal directions. When opening the roof in a closed state, the trunk lid is raised to a position behind the roof, and the roof is moved rearwardly by the roof slide unit to be supported by the trunk lid. Then, the trunk lid is lowered down to a position to close the trunk room. This brings an end to an operation of opening the roof. A reverse procedure may be taken for closing the roof.

  • Patent number: 5025883
Abstract: A motorcycle provided with a central trunk and left and right trunks at the rear portion of the vehicle body. The vehicle body frame of this motorcycle is composed of a main vehicle body frame at the front and a rear vehicle body frame that can be detachably mounted to this main vehicle body frame. The rear vehicle body frame constitutes a trunk assembly jointly with a central trunk, a left trunk, a right trunk and other equipments such as lamps, and after the above-mentioned trunk assembly has been formed preliminarily as one unit outside of a main assembly line, it is detachably mounted to the main vehicle body frame on the main assembly line. Accordingly, the work on the main assembly line becomes little and simple, and a productivity is improved. Upon replacement of a rear wheel tire, it is only necessary to dismount the entire trunk assembly together with the rear vehicle body frame without individually dismounting a large number of equipments.

Abstract: An improved cargo screen for a vehicle body having a cargo floor accessible through a rear door and a rear seat which has a seat back that folds to extend the cargo floor. A cargo screen for covering the cargo floor includes a flexible screen having a forward end and a rearward end. The forward end of the flexible screen is mounted to the vehicle body below the cargo floor level on a reel having a spring for reeling the flexible screen to a stored position. A track formed on the seat back of the rear seat guides the flexible screen from the reel to the top edge of the seat back. A guide formed by the upper part of the the track redirects the flexible screen from a direction parallel to the folding seat back to a direction towards the rear door. The rearward end of the flexible screen is removably attachable to the vehicle body aft of the rear seat so that the screen is suspended above the cargo floor to conceal the cargo floor and the reel is concealed beneath the cargo floor.

The gas spring is hinged to the framework and to the trunk cover. For eliminating the spring force action on the hinge between the trunk cover and the gas spring in the closed position of the trunk cover, the part of the gas spring hinged to the trunk cover is supported on the framework, when the trunk cover is in its closed position. Alternately, the gas spring is locked when the trunk cover is in its closed position.
