Abstract: A mechanism and method for quickly and easily interchanging various furniture bases with various furniture seats or seat boxes by means of an interlocking connection, such as a multi-part cam assembly. A furniture base can be quickly and easily detached from a particular seat box, and replaced by a different style of furniture base, by means of at least two cam or connector pieces having complimentary interlock mechanisms constructed and arranged to interlock one to another to form a cam or connector. A plurality of interlock mechanisms may be provided, as well as a plurality of positioning elements on respective cam pieces.
Abstract: A compact recliner mechanism for use in theater seating units is provided that allows the seat to move linearly as the seating unit moves from the closed position to the reclined position. The mechanism has a back bracket coupled to the seat plate and base plate with a linkage that moves a projected point representing the top of the back of the seating unit downwardly in vertical plane as the seating unit moves from the closed position to the reclined position. In other aspects, the seating unit has an armrest linkage coupled between the seat plate and the back that maintains an armrest lever at a horizontal orientation. Additionally, in some aspects, the base plate of the seating unit may have an adjustment feature that limits recline of the seating unit, to accommodate theater seating with different riser dimensions, and/or legs with an adjustment feature to level the seating unit on existing theater floors.

Abstract: A furniture member such as a rocking chair includes a chair frame operable for rocking motion relative to a stationary base. The chair frame and stationary base are coupled together by a rocker spring assembly positioned on each side of the frame/base. The rocker spring assembly includes upper and lower brackets and a single coiled spring connected to both brackets. A displacement limiting device is positioned within an inner cavity of the coiled spring to limit the rocking movement of the chair frame.
Abstract: In preferred embodiments of the invention, rocker cams are positioned intermediate an upper plate assembly and a lower base with a plurality of biasing springs under tension extending between the upper plate assembly and the lower base. Spring retention means are incorporated into the lower base and upper plate assembly providing for direct attachment of the biasing springs thereto obviating the need for spring mechanisms and threaded fasteners for connecting the spring mechanism to the upper plate and lower base. The base comprising a lower support plate configured as a gusseted tray connects to a pair of floor contacting side rails. The upper plate assembly, also preferably configured as a gusseted tray, is fixed to the pair of rocker cams rockingly engaged on the side rails. Vertical flanges are provided on the sides of the upper plate assembly for attaching the reclining mechanism.
