Armrest Or Its Supporting Member Movable About A Horizontal Axis Patents (Class 297/411.32)
  • Patent number: 6332647
Abstract: A seat for vehicle includes a base member secured to a seat cushion; a rotating arm rotatably supported by the base member through a reclining mechanism; a seat back tiltable with respect to the seat cushion; a center-folding mechanism rotatably supported on the rotating side of the rotating arm; and an arm plate secured to each frame on both sides of the seat back. A second interlocking cam is capable of advancing or retreating into the base member side by a first interlocking cam secured to the arm plate. The base member is provided with a cut-away portion at a predetermined point for containing an engaging portion provided on the tip of the second interlocking cam and for enabling the first and second interlocking cams to act in cooperation, only when the rotating arm is positioned at a predetermined tilt angle.

  • Patent number: 6328384
Abstract: A structure where an armrest is detachably coupled to a seatback includes an axial pin, a moving pin, a supporting bracket, and a slope. The axial pin and the moving pin projects from a side face of one end of the armrest. The moving pin has a head at its distal end. The supporting bracket is fixed on a side portion of the seatback, and it has an axial hole for receiving the axial pin and a guide groove for receiving the moving pin. The axial pin is inserted into the axial hole to be rotatably supported by the supporting bracket. The moving pin is inserted into the guide groove to be moved within the guide groove according to rotation of the axial pin. The slop is disposed on an edge of the guide groove near the using point. As the armrest reaches the using position, the head rides on the slope according to movement of the moving pin, so that the moving pin approaches to the seatback.

  • Patent number: 6283551
Abstract: An armrest has a cupholder at one end, and is adapted to be pivotally mounted between theater seats that have backrest portions. The armrest with the cupholder is pivotally movable from a generally horizontal position where it can support the arms of a person sitting in the seat, to a generally vertical position where it substantially fills the space between adjacent backrests, and provides a surface that forms a backrest continuation when the arm is pivoted upwardly. The armrest has pads at both the upper and lower surfaces thereof so that it is padded when it is being used as an armrest and also when it is forming a continuation of the backrest of the two adjacent seats.

  • Patent number: 6257668
Abstract: A chair armrest joint adjustable for 360° in any direction about a shaft includes a fix member, a movable member and a rotatable member, fixed between an armrest and the seat of a chair. The movable member is fixed on a connector fixed on the armrest, and the fix member is fixed on a seat bracket. When the rotatable member is rotated in one direction, the movable member may be rotated to let the armrest slope in any direction, disengaged from the fix member. Then the rotatable member is rotated reversely to force the movable member to engage with the fix member to lock the movable member and the armrest in the adjusted position. The fix member and the movable member both have teeth on their contacting surface to engage with each other or disengage from each other.

  • Patent number: 6238002
Abstract: A seat back assembly for a vehicle including a seat back, a pivot device having a pivot axis, and an armrest. The seat back is connected to the pivot device for rotational movement relative to the seat cushion between an upright position and a folded position. The armrest is connected to the pivot device for rotational movement relative to the seat back between a deployed position and retracted position. Both the seat back and the armrest pivot about a common pivot axis. The seat back assembly (1) impedes the rotational movement of the armrest beyond the retracted position; (2) holds the armrest in the retracted position when the seat back is in the fold position; and (3) urges the arm rest from the deployed position to the retracted position during rotational movement of the seat back from the upright position to the folded position.

  • Patent number: 6220616
Abstract: An arm rest assembly for a wheelchair movable between a lowered position suitable for resting an arm thereon and a raised position suitable for gaining access to the seat of the wheelchair. The arm rest assembly comprises two generally parallel arm elements, each of which are pivotally attached to the wheelchair frame at a point adjacent to the back of the wheelchair. The lower arm element is linked to the upper arm element by way of a sliding pin positioned within a longitudinal slot in the upper arm element. One end of the longitudinal slot includes an angled segment into which the sliding pin falls when the arm rest assembly is in a lowered position. This angled segment of the slot locks the two arm elements into a parallel configuration and prevents their rotation with respect to the attachment points on the wheelchair.

  • Patent number: 6217119
Abstract: A seat assembly (10, 100) is disclosed which utilizes a retractable armrest (16) which can be retracted into a recess (20) in the seat back (12) of the seat assembly to maximize the available space around the seat assembly. The retractable armrest 16 can be moved from the retracted position to the deployed position by a pneumatic cylinder (38), coil spring (106) or other actuator. The retractable armrest (16) is guided in this motion by a guide pin (30) moving within a guide slot (32) in a mount on the seat back.

  • Patent number: 6209960
Abstract: A clutching mechanism for pivotably mounting a first member relative to a second member includes an axis of rotation, a first member, a second member, a shaft, a coil spring clutching member, a cam plate, and a clutch engagement member. The axis of rotation passes through the first member. The second member is pivotably mounted relative to the first member for relative rotation therebetween about the axis of rotation. The shaft is fixed to the first member and is centered on the axis of rotation. The coil spring clutching member has a helically wound body wrapped around the shaft. A first end of the spring clutching member extends radially outwardly from the body to engage the second member. A second end of the spring clutching member extends radially outwardly from the body as well. The cam plate is fixed relative to the shaft and is disposed adjacent the second member. The clutch engagement member is slideably disposed relative to the second member and receives the second end of the spring clutching member.

  • Patent number: 6183046
Abstract: An adjustable armrest is provided for a riding lawn mower which normally has an operator's seat positioned thereon with the seat including armrests at either side of the seat. The armrests are normally pivotally movable from an operative position to an inoperative position. In the operative position, the armrests are designed to support the arms of the operator while the operator is manipulating the control levers of the mower. An adjuster plate is selectively rotatably mounted on each of the armrest support frames with the adjuster plate being selectively rotatably mounted with respect to the armrest support frame to selectively vary the amount of downward pivotal movement of the armrest. The adjuster plate has a bolt opening formed therein to facilitate the rotatable mounting of the adjuster plate on the support frame. The bolt opening is offset in at least two directions from the center of the adjuster plate so that the edges or ends thereof are spaced at different distances from the bolt opening.
