  • Patent number: 7025420
Abstract: The seat includes the structure (3) of the backrest (1) and the structure (5) of the cushion (2), the former foldable backward to provide by a slight simultaneous elevation of the cushion (2) its transformation into a bed as the folded backrest (1) and the cushion (2) are placed horizontally with their surfaces aligned. The structures (3) and (5) of the backrest and cushion are connected to each other by a swivelling shaft (10) about which they can both revolve freely, so that folding backward the structure (3) of the backrest implies pushing and raising the structure (5) of the cushion, as it is connected on its anterior part by a hinged connecting rod (7) between the structure (5) of the cushion (2) and the general fixed structure (6) of the seat.

  • Patent number: 4541667
Abstract: A first reclining back is pivotally connected to a first seat section. The first back is shiftable to a predetermined position in which the first back is coplanar with the first seat section. The first seat section and back constitute a first seat. A first armrest is detachably connected to the first seat. A second reclining back is pivotally connected to a second seat section. The second back is shiftable to a predetermined position in which the second back is coplanar with the second seat section. The second seat section and back constitute a second seat, which is spaced from the first seat. A second armrest is detachably connected to the second seat. The first and second armrests having been detached from the first and second seats can be used to fill the gap between the first and second seats to form a substantially-flat surface in conjunction with the first and second seats when the first and second backs are in their predetermined positions.

  • Patent number: 4343508
Abstract: A latch mechanism (24) disclosed secures a vehicle seat (10) in a seating position and is selectively releasable to permit movement of cushion, back, and auxliary components (14, 16, 18) on a support linkage (20) to a bed position. The latch mechanism includes a first latch (26) having a latched position for securing the cushion and back components (14, 16) in the seating position. A second latch (28) of the mechanism has a latched position for securing the auxiliary component (18) in a vertical seating position at the rear of the back component. A pair of the first latches are preferably provided at opposite lateral sides of the seat with the second latch therebetween and are releasable in coordination therewith by an actuator (30) of the mechanism to permit unlatching that allows the seat movement to the bed position. A laterally extending connector shaft (96) of the actuator coordinates the releasing of the latches and is pivotally moved by a pedal-actuated member through a pair of cams.

  • Patent number: 4285541
Abstract: A combined chair and bed which can be utilized selectively as a chair and a bed comprises a frame assembly, a seat assembly including a back rest, a leg support and a seat hinged at one side edge to the back rest and at the opposite side edge to the leg support, and at least one link mechanism operable to set the combined chair and bed in selective one of chair and bed modes. While the seat assembly is mounted on the frame assembly through the link mechanism, the link mechanism comprises a fulcrum about which the back rest pivots accompanied by an angular movement of the hinge between the back rest and the seat about the same fulcrum, thereby shifting the seat selectively upwardly and downwardly depending upon the direction of the pivotal movement of the back rest and a pair of links which, when the back rest is moved to the laid-down position, are erected to support the seat in flush with any one of the back rest and the leg support.

  • Patent number: 3964785
Abstract: Seating apparatus is disclosed which is adapted to provide a forward or rearward facing seat or a bed in a camper type vehicle. The inventive seating apparatus may be used as a forward passenger seat in a van type camper vehicle which has a rear seat with a bed conversion capability similar to that of the seating apparatus of this invention. When the two seats are converted to the bed orientation the combination provides a full sized bed. When desired the rear seat is erected to its forward facing orientation and the seating apparatus of this invention may also be used in the forward facing seat orientation. Alternatively, the forward seat may be reversed so that the seats are in face to face to relation and a table may be placed therebetween for a dining arrangement.
