Abstract: A system and method are disclosed which prevent structural damage to a chair footrest in an aircraft. Aircraft typically include release pins which when pulled out of apertures at different angular positions on arms existing on each side of the seat frame enable a user to set the footrest at different angular positions. To avoid overloading, the pin has been included in a pivotable housing on an axle. Resistance against rotation of the pin is provided using a torsion spring. This enables the resistance to be set at a level that allows the pin to break out to prevent overloading.

The lift mechanism portion includes a lift motor and a drive assembly connected to the lift motor having a slide. A lift tube connects the slide to the chair portion. The lift tube upon actuation of the lift motor displaces the chair portion between a nominal and a full lift position by slide displacement in a slide lifting direction. First and second guide members are positioned on opposite sides of the drive assembly and connected to a base portion base platform. The lift tube is connected to both the first and second guide members to distribute a weight load from the chair portion via the lift tube to the slide, and by the guide members to the base platform.

The biasing element second end is a hook that slides along the support shaft. A biasing element spring tension is varied by engaging the first end to different ones of the toggle link apertures. The biasing element slides to align itself on the support shaft where a biasing element length is minimized.

  • Patent number: 7338132
Abstract: A three-position leg rest mechanism includes a link and sector members rotatably supported to the link. The sector members are coupled to a drive rod for rotation therewith. A biased pin engages the sector members and releasably locks with the sector members in each of three positions. A locking link end opposite the sector members is coupled to a support shaft of the actuation mechanism. An elastically compressible member is positioned between the sector members which is partially compressed by the pin as the pin moves relative to the sector members, reducing contact noise between the pin and the sector members.
