Patent number: 9630329Abstract: Kitchen scissors are curved and have a single or multiple blade for safer, faster and more efficient slicing of food, for example. The scissors can be used for various items, such as for cutting meat, vegetables and other food products. The curved design of the scissor blades allows a user to easily operate the scissors to cut items disposed against a horizontal surface without having to uncomfortably and unsafely twist one's wrist as would be required with conventional straight-blade scissors. The scissors can have multiple blades, spaced apart a desired “bite-sized” length, to make cutting food products even faster. The hooked tip not only improves the slicing action by lifting the food ever so slightly during cutting but such hooked tips also have the additional advantage of grabbing food with a tong effect prior to slicing.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2012Date of Patent: April 25, 2017Inventor: Michael Christian Rhue

Patent number: 7770295Abstract: A cigar cutter has a body formed of a pair of plates having aligning orifices defining a passage for the head of a cigar to be cut. A pair of opposed cutting blades, movable toward and away from each other within the body each have a cutting edge, which cooperates with the opposing cutting edge during toward movement to cut the cigar head. Each of a pair of bridges is affixed to one of the cutting blades and moveable therewith. A spring engages the bridges and biases them toward an extended position wherein the cutting edges are moved away from each other within the body. A latch automatically engages both of the blades approximate the inward terminus of their toward movement and maintains the blades in a retracted storage position wherein the edges are not exposed. The cutting edges are each inwardly tapered to cause the edges and the cigar to cooperate to force the opposing blades together during their toward movement to automatically sharpen the blades.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2007Date of Patent: August 10, 2010Inventor: Andrew Smith

Patent number: 6006432Abstract: A multifunctional pocket knife, in particular a Swiss knife, has lateral sides serving as a handle, and including at least one cigar cutter able to pivot or slide in a plane parallel to the inner faces of the lateral sides. The cigar cutter includes two rounded scissor elements pivoting, one with respect to the other, about a first axis pivot. One end of the first element is able to pivot about a second axis pivot enabling the first element to be pulled out of the knife. A spring blade, which can be pulled out, allows the scissor elements to be kept spaced open when they are pulled out of the knife. The spring blade limits the pivoting path of the second element about the second pivot axis. An elastic back blade transmits a constant force to the second scissor element through the agency of the spring blade.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1998Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: Wenger SAInventor: Maurice Cachot

Patent number: 5715602Abstract: An cigar tip cutter having a plastic housing defining an internal cavity for receiving relatively slidable cutting blades includes a cigar tip receiving opening that cooperates with the cutting blades for cutting a cigar tip placed in the opening of the housing. Relative motion of the blades causes registration of the cutting edges of the blades with the cigar tip receiving opening and motion of the blades towards each other effects severing of the cigar tip. Plastic guide rails fit in plastic grooves within the housing to guide the motion of the blades and prevent separation of the blades from the plastic housing. The plastic guide rails and cooperating plastic grooves include a position holding feature that functions as a friction lock when the blades are in the collapsed position within the housing.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1996Date of Patent: February 10, 1998Inventor: Stephen J. Hage

Patent number: 5694691Abstract: A cigar cutter includes a pair of plates secured together and having a center orifice for engaging with a cigar. A cutting blade is engaged between the plates and pivotally coupled to the plates at a pivot shaft, and includes a cutting edge. The cutting blade is rotatable about the pivot shaft for opening the orifices of the plates and for allowing the cigar to engage into the orifices. The cutting edge of the cutting blade may be moved across the orifices for cutting the cigar. The cigar cutter includes a biasing spring for biasing the cutting blade backward to the storing position. The blade includes a shoulder formed in the peripheral portion for engaging with a stop member and for limiting the rotational movement of the blade relative to the plates.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1996Date of Patent: December 9, 1997Inventor: Su-Fen Chen
