  • Patent number: 10933552
Abstract: Knives and knife assemblies for slicing machines and centrifugal-type slicing machines equipped therewith. Such a knife includes a cutting edge and an opposing edge oppositely disposed from the cutting edge. The cutting and opposing edges extend along a longitudinal length of the knife, and the knife has a handle at a longitudinal end of the knife. A transition region is between the cutting edge and the handle, and the transition region has a minimum lateral width of roughly one half of a lateral width between the cutting and opposing edges of the knife, with the result that a portion of the knife that laterally extends beyond the transition region is up to roughly half of a lateral width of the knife between the cutting and opposing edges.

Abstract: A cutter has a blade housing; a blade carrier; and a blade engaged within the blade carrier. The blade housing receives the blade carrier and blade in sliding engagement along a longitudinal direction for retracting and extending the blade forward of the blade housing. The blade carrier is further movable between an upwardly biased position and a downwardly depressed position within the blade housing against a spring biasing element which urges the blade carrier to the upwardly biased position for locking the blade carrier in one of a plurality of slots for fixing the blade at a selected degree of extension. The blade carrier may be partially depressed to disengage the blade carrier from the slots enabling longitudinal motion and may be fully depressed to engage a cutting edge of the blade with a sharpening stone for honing the blade as the blade carrier moves within the housing.

  • Patent number: 6161453
Abstract: A saw chain sharpener for a chain saw and a chain saw having a sharpener in which the bottom surfaces of the cutting teeth of a conventional bottom sharpened saw chain are conveniently sharpened automatically by running the chain under power through the sharpener. The saw chain can be sharpened using the sharpener in a matter of typically twenty to thirty seconds without removing the chain from the chain bar. The sharpener is preferably adapted to be removably mounted to a bracket which is itself preferably removably disposed on the chain saw. The sharpener comprises a sharpening tooth disposed in a housing which is mounted on the chain bar. A top surface of the sharpening tooth frictionally engages bottom surfaces of the cutting teeth of the chain as the chain is run under power. A device for dispensing a sharpening compound to the sharpening tooth during sharpening may be disposed on the sharpener housing.

  • Patent number: 6117002
Abstract: A blade sharpener having a sharpening mechanism that functions to sharpen a blade engaging the mechanism and being moved longitudinally relative to that mechanism. The sharpening mechanism is located within a hollow housing or scabbard for containing the blade, and means is provided to restrain the blade against inadvertent removal from the housing. The blade is moved into and out of the housing through a front end of the housing, and the restraining means becomes operative (automatically) when the blade is fully inserted. Locking means then functions to prevent release of the restraining means, and that locking means includes a plate movable in the longitudinal direction of the housing between locking and unlocking positions. The locking means is moved into the unlocking position by actuation of a press button located at the rear end of the housing, and automatically returns to the locking position when pressure is removed from the press button.

  • Patent number: 5784786
Abstract: A blade scabbard including a safety lock which functions to prevent accidental or inadvertent withdrawal of a blade from a fully inserted position within the scabbard housing. The safety lock operates automatically in response to insertion of a blade into the scabbard and is preferably associated with blade sharpening mechanism which is also responsive to movement of a blade into and out of the scabbard housing. The sharpening mechanism is preferably inactive during blade insertion and active during blade withdrawal. Manually operable release means is provided to enable release of the lock for blade withdrawal purposes, and it is necessary to operate the release means while simultaneously withdrawing the blade from the scabbard. The safety lock is fully released after the blade has been withdrawn a distance from the fully inserted position and operation of the release means can then be terminated without hindering further withdrawal of the blade.
